Maya hurried to her house. Oh no I'm going to be late, I hope Dave's not mad. Lately thier relationship was becoming full of stress, nothing had been the same after Holly had been let out of the hospital. Dave had become more posessive and always demanding where she was and who she was with. Normally she would have told him off and let him know she did have a life and he didn't run it. But the thing with Isaac had really confuesed her in more ways then one.
"There you are!" Dave exclaimed angerly.
"I'm sorry, I ment to be here on time, but I got talking to Isaac and..." She let her voice trail off feeling ashamed of herself.
"I think your spending way to much time around Isaac," Dave said in way that sounded as if he were forbidding her to see him anymore.
Maya cringed, and felt as if she were the lowest persn on this earth. She knew in her heart that she souldn't let Dave make her feel that way, yet she couldn't open her mouth to tell him Shut-up. I've already told Isaac I couldn't see him because of Dave, and there is no way I'm braking up with him now. He's the only guy I've got left. She gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"Don't worry, Isaac's on tour now. They left this afternoon, I thought I told you that."
"You might have," he shrugged. "Why don't we go inside?"
"I can't" Maya said shocked, he knew about the strict rule her mom had about having boy's alone in the house. It was the one rule she was afraid to brack, if anyone ever found out, she would be in more trouble then it was worth.
"Come on baby please? It would mean alot to me," he grabbed her arm and gave her a sloppy kiss.
"No, my brother's going to be home soon," she said weakly, knowing that any minute now she would say yes. What's wrong with me?. I never use to be weak, or care about what anyone else thought! She leaned against Dave's arm. Am I turning in to one of those people I've aways dipised? The people who always worrying about this and that?
"But Maya," Dave protested. "If you really loved me you would go inside with me. Please?"
She paced from foot to foot, "Dave I'm really sorry but if my brother catches me...I'll never be able to see you again," she leaned in to give him a kiss.
Dave turned his head to aviod it. "Fine then. If you don't want to be with me today...I'll see you later, make sure you're home. I might call."
Maya watched as Dave stormed off. Why does he have to be like this? He used to be so understanding. He respected my mother's rules. She walked toward the house and opened the door. He repected me.
"Dawn, I have to ask you something," Holly started. "Now please just give me a striat answer. None of that 'maybe' stuff ok?"
"Sure," Dawn answered nervously.
"Did you bring the picture of my dad to the hospital?"
"No, why?" Dawn asked perplexed, Holly never talked about her dad.
"Just wondering," Holly looked away. "So how it manage to get to my hospital room?"
Dawn thought for a second. "I don't think Maya would have brought it, she was to upset to even think about it, but even if she could have she wouldn't. The only other person is Zac..." she let her voice trail off.
"Zac?" Holly wondered out loud. "That makes sence, why didn't I think about that?"
"What's so big about that picture anyway?" Dawn pried.
"Nothing, nothing at all," She replyed a little to fast. I want to tell her, I just don't know if I'm ready to tell anyone. Holly's heart was pounding, and she hoped that her crimson face didn't give away the fact that there was more to her father's disapperance then she had told her friend. "I'm sorry Dawn but I'm getting tired."
"Oh...Ok, I'll see you later."
Holly layed back on her bed. I wish my life was as simple as everyone thinks it is.. In a couple minutes she was fast asleep, and relived the nightmare of her past.
** It's the middle of the night in the year 1992. Holly is snuggled up in her bed in their cozy home. The phone rings waking her up. She knows something is wrong as soon as her eyes open, but what? She lies in bed, eyes wide open listening to the muffeled voice in the next room. She strains her ears to hear as much as she can of her mom's conversation.
She makes out a couple of "yes"'s but manages to hear nothing more then "humphs". Then one word comes through. The one word, in a shrill voice she'll never forget for the rest of her life.
"NO!" Her mother had screamed it. It was followed by the sound of the women dropping to the floor and crying.
Holly is desperate to know what happened. What horrible thing could make her mother sound like that?
She steps out of bed quietly. Clutching in her right hand the golden teddy bear her daddy had given her the night before. She crept out of her room and noiselessly walked to the door of her parent's room. She stopped, dead in her tracks and listened.
"No...No..." her mother sobbed. "Not Colin....oh please God no...please don't take him..."
Holly's eyes brimmed with tears. She knew full well that Colin was the name of her father. But why was her mom crying because of him?
Holly held her breath and cautiously went into the bedroom. She saw her mother crouched on the ground crying. "Mommy? Mommy what's wrong?"
She looked up, eyes read and tears streaming down her face. She held her arms out to her child. "Holly, oh Holly..."
Holly ran into her mother's outstreached arms. "Mommy what's wrong?"
She tightend her arms around her daughter. "Holly, there's been an accident," she explained in a soft voice. "Daddy was hurt. The doctors are going to try to do as much as they can for him sweetie, but we don't know if he's going to be alright."
"Daddy's sick?"
"No honey, Daddy is hurt. He's hurt real bad," She kissed Holly on the forehead. "I'm going to have to go to the hospital and see him now. Granny's going to come over. She'll look after you while I'm gone okay?"
"No," Holly said stubornly. "I'm going to come with you. I want to go and see daddy."
There was confusion and everything seemed blurred, until she was in a hallway.
The hallway was white adn there were wooden rails along the walls. Tall people in white buzzed in and out of the room she was standing beside. She saw equiptment move in an out and heard people calling to each other and her mom asking what was going on. It was like this for 5 minates then, silance. The only sound left in the room was her mothers cries.
Holly ran into the room. She went to her mother's side and hugged her. Holly looked at the bed, it was splatterd with blood, she looked at the person lying on it, motionless and pale. She stood up and despite her mother's protests examined the man lying there. She could barely make out a face. The gashes in his head were so deep she could see his skull. She picked up his hand...wondering...hoping it wasn't true. The hand was covered in blood but she held it anyways and exaimened the fingers. Sure enough it was there.
Holly started crying. She was untrolable. She was screaming...**
She sat up boltright in the middle of a scream. The pillow was sopping wet with tears.
