Ms. McCann paced outside of Holly's hospital room. What's happening in there? What's happening to Holly?
The doctor emerged from Holly's room. "Ms. McCann?"
"Yes?"
" I think Holly's going to be fine, but she does have to stay in the hospital for a few days."
Ms. McCann felt relief wash over her. Holly's going to be alright, everything can go back to normal.
"Why does she have to stay in the hospital for a few days?" Ms. McCann wondered out loud
"We're still not sure yet. We'll have to do some more tests, but I'm sure it's nothing serious." The docter sounded so profestional.
The doctor walked back into Holly's room and left her standing there wondering what was going to happen.
"Ms. McCann! Ms. McCann!" Maya called while running down the hospital hallway.
She spun around, "Oh Maya, Dawn..."
As the females embrased Zac stood awkwardly aside.
"Did you call my mom and sister?" Ms. McCann asked once they had seperated.
"Yes, they said they'd be here as soon as possible."
Holly's Granny and Aunt lived on the other side of town adn it took them quite a while to get to the hospital. So, for the time being, Maya and Dawn were all she had.
Ms. McCann let out a sigh of relief. He said eyes turn to the squimerish boy in the corner holding Holly's knapsack.
"Hello," she said softly. This boy's face was worried and looked like he'd break down and cry at any minute.
"Hi," he responded.
With the exchange of greetings, Dawn and Maya finally remembered that Zac was there too.
"I'm sorry," Dawn apoligised. "We forgot all about you."
Zac gave a nervous laugh, "It's okay."
"Ms. McCann, this is Zac. Zac, Holly's mom, Ms. McCann," Maya introduced them.
The two shoock hands.
"Zac," Maya continued, "He's....ugh...he and Holly met today...ugh..." Maya didn't exactly know what to say.
"I met Holly today in the grocery store. I helped her get the stuff on your shopping list. You know, the "A" stuff?" Zac broke in. He smiled at Maya. She smiled back as a way of thanking him.
"Okay, well, I never really got to talk to Holly because of the...ugh...accident. But I'm sure if she liked you, and if you were willing to pick up all those things," she guestured toward the bag he was holding, "you're an all right guy."
He smiled. Ms. McCann reminded him of his own mother. Very open-minded and tursting. He liked her already.
"Anyway, you can set that bag down, I don't think we'll be getting in Holly's room for a while, with the amount of doctors there are in there," her face darkend as she remembered where she was and why she was there.
Maya took the depressed woman's hand, "Please ma'am, what did happen? Is Holly going to be all right?"
I woke up are looked around, only to find that I couldn't see a thing. There was a bright light being shone in my eye's where am I?. Then I screamed there were as hole bunch of people staring down at me, and from the angle I was looking at they all looked like giants.
"shhhhhh....it's ok know one is going to hurt you," someone said in a low calming voice. "You were in a slight accident, and we're just trying to help you."
The instent the man said that I remembered falling down the stairs and blacking out. So I laid back and relaxed, partly because I knew the doctors were trying to help me, and partly because my head felt like a slege hammer was hitting it.
1 hour later
"Holly, are you alright? How do you feel?" My mom cried rushing into my hospital room.
Standing timidly behind my mom were Maya, Dawn and Zac.
"I'm..." Hang on a second here...Zac? What's he doing here?! "...fine. Why is Zac here?"
Zac looked a little taken back but then smiled in a kind way.
"I came to see you silly!" he said.
That's when reality hit, that I was in a hospital, and something must be really really wrong or I wouldn't be here.
"MOM!" I sobbed, letting my tears flow freely. "What's wrong with me?"
"I don't know for sure honey," my mom sat on my bed and stroked my hair. "The docter doesn't think it's too serious. He think's it might be Mono, but that's it darling."
I let out a sigh of relief. My tears slowly came to a stop. "Mono's not that bad is it?"
"It's the KISSING disease," Dawn and Maya said at the same time.
"That's not bad is it?" I repeated, ignoring their comment.
"No," Zac wispered softly, "Isaac had it when he was younger around my age. He was tired alot but that's all, it's nothing bad. You get to catch up on all your sleep," Zac grinned and started to sing the childish song, "Holly and someone sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G..." he stoped there, as he seemed to remember that he was in a hospital. He then looked at my mom and me blushing. "Sorry."
I guess Taylor isn't the only blusher in the family, I found myself thinking.
A couple minutes later, I was feeling better (except for my head), but then Doctor Green walked in. His face was grim looking, and I knew it wasn't Mono that I had.
"Ms. McCann could I please talk to you in my office?"
"Ok," she said and then followed him out in out of my room.
I felt a fresh set of tears come to my eyes, and my friends came to me.
"It's going to be ok Holly," Maya said in a comfoting voice, but I could tell she didn't mean what she was saying. She was about as worried as I was.
Zac took my hand and held it comfortingly, "I bet the doctor is just asking your mom about the bill," he said, trying to make everything seem less serious then it really was.
"Yes!" Dawn spoke triumphanty as if she finnally found some hope and something to cling on to. "That's exactly what it is!
I felt anger grow with in me Why does Dawn need hope? I'm the one in the hospital. The one in the ugly room with the pukeish yellow paint on the walls and the discusting pink bed!! I looked bitterly at my friends, Why couldn't it be one of them? What have I ever done? I stopped my self. NO, they don't deserve it any more then I do. I started to shake. I wonder what is wrong with me?
"What is it doctor?" Mrs. McCann asked as soon as she got in to his office.
"Well..." he paused. "Holly doesn't have Mono, like we first thought."
Mrs.McCann's mouth dropped open
"WELL THEN WHAT DOES SHE HAVE?" She screamed in the doctor's ear.
"Nothing to serious, but she will most likely need surgery. She has...
