The Concert
Cassi clasped her mike to her chest. Just breathe. she thought to herself. Do
your best, and that's enough.
Mike opened the door. "Full house tonight, Cassi." he said, walking
over to
his drum set.
Jake put a hand on his head and groaned. Suni frowned at him.
Miz walked in. "Okay, curtain up 5 minutes after the opening act's
done."
Cassi nodded. "Okay guys, get ready."
Suni picked up her guitar, tuning a few strings. Miz walked over to her
keyboard, testing a few keys. Jake picked up his guitar, plucking a few of
the bass's strings. Mike struck his drums, then quickly silenced them.
10 minutes later, a technician signaled they would be on soon, and they all
tensed up.
The announcer's voice boomed overhead as the curtain started to rise and they
began to play.
"And now, the star attraction! I present to you, the ELEMENTALS!"
The curtain was up, and Cassi grabbed the mike, singing over the screams of
the audience.
"Callin' you, pushin' you, anger in your soul. Helpin' you, hurtin' you,
gotta lose control." Cassi twirled, then came back to the mike. "Missin'
you,
hatin' you, watch your fuckin' back. Havin' you, lovin' you, puts me back
on
track."
The rest of them joined in on the chorus. "Sometimes life can get you down.
Maybe life can get you down. Do not let life get you down. Sometimes life will
get you down."
Miz joined Cassi for the next verse. "Maybe I, shouldn't have, made you go
away. Maybe I, shouldn't have, let you know that day."
Suni joined in to make a trio. "Let me know, when you know, what to do. Oh
you know, I just know, I love you."
Miz and Suni dropped out. Cassi continued. "Oooooh, oooooh, I love you.
Oooooh, oooooh, you know too. Oooooh, oooooh, why's it me? Oooooh, oooooh,
what's - it - gonna be?"
They all sang the chorus again. "Sometimes life can get you down. Maybe
life
can get you down. Do not let life get you down. Sometimes life will get you
down."
Cassi twirled again as Suni began her guitar solo. She stood there when Jake
joined in. She smiled at the audience, blowing them kisses, getting louder
yells. She twirled once more, then finished the song.
"Some - times - life - can - get . . . you . . . down!" she sang,
raising her
mike-less hand to the ceiling, and throwing her head back.
When she was done, there was an explosion of screaming and thunderous
applause. Some guy yelled "Marry me, Cassi!"
Cassi smiled, tears in her eyes. "Thank you!" she yelled, making a
peace
sign. I love you guys, she thought silently to her friends, who were smiling
just as much as she was. And thanks.
