Advanced

Note: You don't need to know these rules to play this game. This section is only for people with too much time on their hands.

I want to make these rules as simple and easy to follow as possible. If you are confused about something, please let me know about it by e-mailing me at Akktri@iname.com .

Introduction

Gardenia is a storytelling game, involving funny situations, friendships and conflicts. You go on quests, gamble, collect things, fight monsters, play Pokemon, and do more things than I have space to list here. Dice and number generators are used for battles, Nook's Casino, cooking competitions and Pokemon style battles.

Casino Mini Game

Gardenia Casinos do not take real money. We do not expect you to pay us real currency. You do not need money to play this game, nor will you get any real money from us. If someone asks you for credit card or bank account information, do not give it to them. It is a scam. All Nook Games are played with "Pogs," the virtual currency of Gardenia.

Gardenia Classifieds

The Gardenia Classifieds (Game messages about character's offering jobs) can be viewed at any time at http://gardeniarpg.wordpress.com/

You are not required to use the Gardenia classifieds to play this game. Unless you prefer message board format to e-mail, then you can perform all your actions at the message board or yahoo group.

Trivia

Gardenia's Happy Trivia Show can be played at any time, independently of Gardeniarpg. Simply go to http://community.livejournal.com/trivianetwork and answer any question you feel like. It doesn't matter if you're wrong. You still get points! You will win points for everything you reply to. If you don't have a Livejournal account, that's okay. Post anonymously! Just remember to leave a username so I know who you are, okay?

Innate Gifts

There are some skills that you can only be born with or receive by extraordinary means. They cannot be learned in schools or taught or learned from a book. The only way to build up these skills is to perform a certain action specific to each character to increase the skill level, one point per action. These are described in the character sections.

Salesmanship (Charisma+Resourcefulness)

In the area of taste, opinions vary wildly. The primary concern, therefore, is to be able to sell whatever it is. A good salesman can sell an ice chest to an Eskimo.

Resourcefulness

Someone who is resourceful can be aware of their surroundings and use them to their advantage.

Aesthetics

An individual can paint, sculpt, or whatever, but without a vision of the end result, without an eye for composition, the only thing that can save the piece of art is overcompensating with salesmanship.

Awareness

In battle, a person who isn't paying attention often loses. But it is difficult to cultivate this skill.

Dexterity

The ability to maneuver the body and fingers precisely. Some are too clumsy to gain this skill.

Locution

Some Whammies require fast talking. A difficult ability to learn.

Tolerance

Certain individuals can build up a resistance to pain. This is cultivated, not learned.

Speed

The ability to move quickly in battle. Difficult to teach.

Tonality

The ability to keep in tune with a group, tune instruments and hear music that is written on paper. Difficult to teach.

Charisma

The ability to charm and make friends, to get on people's good side, as well as calm beasts.

Perserverence

It takes a special person to persist in an endeavor. Not a thing that can be taught.

Patience

The ability to wait for long periods without losting temper and/or causing problems.

Effort

The ability to work hard to achieve results.

Practicality

The ability to conceive of items that are useful.

Courage

Confidence, and the ability to remain cool under pressure.

Self Control

The ability to deny oneself for the greater good, and to resist the temptation to do evil.
