The Songs of Love
By
Rella W. Hawkins

Awakening to the bird's calls
Simple, "I love yous."
Seems to be the only phrase they know
The only thing they sing about.

The red birds setting on the limbs
In my great big green ash tree
As though they were Christmas ornaments
Wanting to dazzle me.

They act like they love me
Entertaining me each day
How does their energy replenish?
I wonder if they sleep?

If I could sing like those birds
I wonder what I would sing?
Would I be as happy as they
Simply singing, "I love you?"

If I never left this bed
If I never shared my thoughts
If I never woke up to love
Would I still sing my love song?

But: What else would I know?

In peace and love...rell
