The Death of Beowulf

Flitting through the forest
Beyond the river’s edge
Ethereal maidens of the Rhine
Hair sprinkled silver
Wings laced in gold
And beauty surpassing divine
Dark waters flow silent
Amid moving trails of red
Along currents marked with defeat
Beowulf – brave king
Lay by the Rhine’s bank dead
With slain dragon at his feet
“He was more bold than any
Far and wide it was said,”
Whispers one to another bereaved,
“When Heimdall’s horn blows
He’ll be the first to go
To the Vigrid plain with sword unsheathed.”
Flitting through the forest
Beyond the river’s edge
Ethereal maidens of the Rhine
Hair sprinkled silver
Wings laced in gold
And beauty surpassing divine
