Family Orycteropidae
Aardvarks
There is only one species in the order Tubulidentata, and it is unique in habits,
appearance, and diet. For many years it was classified in the order Edentata
(or Xenarthra - sloths, armadillos) by many scientists or Pholidota
(pangolins) by others. Only recently was it realized that it was an ungulate
(hoofed mammal) and was placed in a separate order. There is one family:
Orycteropidae (aardvarks)
