Egidius Rehberg


Egidius Rehberg born in 1826 immigrated into USA some time around 1854, at the age of 28, after he gotten out of the army, and death of his mother in 1854.

What Ship did Egidius came on in 1854 and who was with him? He and his sister Gertrude and his half sibling Theodore Hoffman and Millianna Hoffman.

Egiedius Rehberg, one of the pioneer settlers of Adrian, died at his home in this city Feb 21, at the age of 86 years, 11 mos. 15 days.

Mr. Rehberg was born in Steinbach, Fuldah, Hessen, Germany in 1826. He lived at home until 21 years of age. Then entered, the army and served in War of the Rebellion, first as a cavalryman, and later as a corporal. In 1858 he left Germany coming to Wisconsin and settling at Hartford, Washington county. There he was married in 1857 to Katherine Beaver. Six children were born to them, three of which are still living, Theodore of Oregon, Mrs. Martin Sackmaster and Peter both of North Dakota.

In 1860 he moved to Clark county, living there about five years. In 1864 he came to Monroe County and lived on a farm in Jacksonville until two years ago when he moved to Tomah.

His wife died on the 17th of May 1871, He was married again the 10th of October 1871 to Agnes Zastoupil, Nine children were born to them, six of them still living, Frank, Otto, Mrs. Henry Schulz, Will, Joe, John.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, 9 children, 31 grandchildren, and one great grand-child, besides a great many friends.

The funeral took place Monday morning at 10'O clock from the Catholic church. Interment was made at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
