Heading to Albertane
Kelly's Stories

"Remember that part where we almost hit you with the water gun, Laurie?" Zac asked excitedly.

"Yes, Zac, I remember that quite well," Laurie said.

"And remember--"

"ZAC, SHUT UP!" the whole place yelled.

"Geez, sorry!" he exclaimed.

They had been talking about the concert for an hour straight. They watched the movie straight through, with the guys making comments about what they were thinking. Then, Diana and Mrs. Woodman made them all go to bed. The guys would have to play again in Detroit the next day. Everyone crawled into their beds. Soon, everybody was asleep but Laurie. She decided to go into the kitchen and get a soda. She popped it open, but then heard someone walking to join her.

"Laurie? Why are you awake?"

"I couldn't sleep, Taylor."

"I'm sorry," he said. He got himself a soda and sat down next to her.

"Why can't you sleep?"

"I don't know. Maybe too much excitement, or too much sleep today."

"You'll get used to it, believe me."

"Probably the day the tour is over."

"Nah, it'll happen sooner than you realize."

Laurie nodded. "Taylor?"

"Yes?"

"Why don't we talk as much anymore? We used to be really good friends."

Taylor was silent. "Well, I think the fact that you're dating Isaac, and you're spending your time with him might have something to do with it."

It was Laurie's turn to be silent. She didn't really know what to say to that.

"Laurie, I'm going to tell you something I haven't told you before. Pay close attention."

Laurie looked at Taylor in the eyes.

"I am happy for you and Isaac, believe me, but I wish you could spend some time with me more often. We've been friends longer than you've been dating Isaac, and ever since you've dated him, you tended to leave me out. I don't feel like I'm a part of your life, or that you're a part of mine anymore, and I don't like it."

Laurie took her time responding. Taylor's words hit her so fast, she wasn't sure what to say. "Taylor, I wish that you would have told me sooner. I had no idea that you felt that way. To tell you the truth, I've missed you very much. Being with you at the water park really made me realize how much I missed you. I'm so sorry for shutting you out like I did."

"It's okay, Laurie, just please promise me that we can still hang out and do stuff together."

"I promise, Taylor."

The two of them hugged each other for the longest time. When they pulled away, they had tears running down their cheeks. They sat there with the silence filling the unspoken gaps. Finally, Taylor got up.

"I'm going to go back to bed. Do you think you can sleep?"

"I'll try."

"Okay. Wake me up if you can't, though."

"All right, Taylor. Thanks."

Taylor looked her straight in the eye. "No, thank you, Laurie." He turned around and went to bed.
