Chapter 1 - Before the Concert

"AAUUGH! Can you believe it, Laurie?" asked Laurie Woodman's best friend Halley Green.

"No, considering I don't know what's going on. What is going on?" asked Laurie.

"Third Eye Blind is actually going to be playing a concert here in St. Louis!" Halley shouted.

Laurie was so excited that she dropped the phone. Third Eye Blind was her favorite band! And now that they were coming to St. Louis to play a concert.

Laurie stooped down to pick the phone up. "Sorry, Halley, I dropped the phone," she said.

"That's okay. I didn't tell you the best part, yet" Halley said.

"What?"

"Dad got me front row tickets for me, him, and a friend! Do you want to go?"

"OMIGOSH! ARE YOU SERIOUS?" Laurie asked.

"Yes! The concert is this Friday."

"This Friday? That's 5 days away!"

"I know, 3E Blind just decided today that they were going to make a stop here. They have this new band that I've never heard of opening for them, but I can't remember their name. Began with an H. I haven't heard of them before. They're from Tulsa, OK."

"Oh. I wonder if they're any good?" Asked Laurie.

"We'll find out Friday. I gotta go, dinner time."

"Okay, Bye Halley."

"Bye Laurie."

Laurie hung up the phone. Then, after running past her younger brother Mike and shoving past her older brother Andy, she found her Mom, folding laundry.

"Mom, Mom, Mom! Guess what?" She asked running into the laundry room.

"What sweetie?" asked her Mom.

"Third Eye Blind is going to have a concert here Friday! Halley's dad got her front row tickets, and she wants to take me. Can I go? PLEASE?"

"Well, let me check with your father on that one, but I don't see any reason why not," she said.

"Really? Are you serious? Thanks, Mom!" Laurie gave her Mom a big hug.

"You're welcome Laurie. Please go set the table for dinner and ask your father if the burgers are ready."

Laurie raced up the stairs. She found her Dad and brought the burgers in. Then, she set the table in world-record time. Before she knew it, everyone was sitting around the table munching on burgers, fries, and corn on the cob. Laurie brought up the subject about the concert to her Dad.

"Dad, Halley got tickets to the Third Eye Blind concert on Friday, and she wants me to go with her. Mom said I could go if it's okay with you. Is it okay? PLEASE? Please say yes," Laurie pleaded.

Mr. Woodman chewed his burger and wiped his mouth. After what seemed like hours, he gave Laurie an answer.

"I don't see why you couldn't go. Is one of Laurie's parents going to be there with you?" He asked.

"Yes, her dad's going." "Do you promise to stick by them and listen to Mr. Green?"

"Yes, yes, yes."

"Then you may go."

Laurie shrieked. "OH, thank you Dad! Thank you Mom!" She gave them a big hug and kiss.

"All of this affection made me lose my appetite. Come on, Mike," said Andy. The two of them got up and left the table.

"Boys," said Mrs. Woodman.

"I gotta go call Halley and tell her the news!" Laurie sprang from her chair and ran for the phone. She couldn't believe how lucky she was. Little did she know, her luck would only increase.
