Step 1. I turn on the Bounty Hunter Land Star to 3/4 turn. The on/off knob.[ SEN Control Knob]
Step 2. I push the buttom called "Disc" .
Step 3. I set the ground balance by
laying "NEW" Penney on the ground , and slowly
move the detector from left to right until it reads a penny on the
scale. [ZINC] This is around a 7:00 setting
.
I know this sounds somewhat odd,but by doing this I have just ruled
out some of the iron items [small ones] .
Step 4. I set my DISC knob to around 1:00 setting, that way I can pick up Nickels .
Step 5. I would like to say that all
metal detectors are not the same.It is like a good rifle,
it may shoot to the left, and your friend's rifle may shoot to the
right .
I have also found that if the detector says something is there,You
had better look .
Sometimes I get a signal that reads trash, but if I move around the
Target as I move my coil left to right,I find I start getting a good signal
.
This is why.I have found more than one item in the area,or hole
.
I have also learned to sweep the coil slowly, and I mean slowly from
left to right = No more than an inch .
You have to remember how big a coin is .
Odd sounds,or signals .Well on this
one I have found that beer cans,or soda cans will give you a good signal,
but if you lift the coil off the ground to a point it no longer
hits . How high are you . If it is 8" or more it is a large
find such as a can,BUT if your signal sound odd it could help on
centering the target by lifting the coil higher .
By doing this the ODD
signal
starts to sound like a good target sound .This is [ sometimes ] because
the target
is very close to the coil,or on top the ground .
Signals OK,This
is something I had to learn also . If your coil gets a signal is it a signal
?
Well if you are hunting close to a metal item . It could be you
are picking up the item you are close to,or
under . Lets remember that coils look up and down .Try passing a
coin over the top of the coil . Any metal item
within 6 inches of a coil,the detector should pick up . I
use an 8 " coil . I have also found by hitting the ground,or object
alittle hard will make your detector give a signal .This is sometimes caused
from your SEN setting being too high .
Maybe you are using your detector as an axe
.
Say I get two or more beeps in one direction
.Well
maybe you have more than one item in the ground .
Start with one . I reach out to the point I get no signal then come
back to the first sound.or signal [Stop] .
Then I slowly move left to right to home in on it . [ Then on to
the next signal ] . Till I have removed all the targets .
I have also found that if you find one target,or coin .You will more
than likely find some more close by,or in the general area .
I would like to say one thing about the way I set my detector, it
is not in the book !
However in order to find anything you should read the book, and know
what the knobs are for .
The book that came with my detector said the ground balance had
no use in the " Disc Mode",But
as you have read, it serves as a Disc source knob the way I use
it .
I also feel you will need to go Metal Detecting to learn what's
going on,and by seeing what it is doing, and why .
I hope this helps you ,or somebody that is having problems detecting.
If you know your detector, contact me,and maybe we can help
some new Treasure Hunters .

All field test reports, I have read they all say the same thing
!
That the detector did a good job ?
So,What does that mean ?
Maybe alot of it is up to you . ?
If I'm wrong,Tell me what ,I would really like to know.
