Hi! I"m JJ....I live in St.Louis with my 'mom', Barbara. She's a
nurse, and my job is
to be 'in charge' while she's gone from the apartment. Another of
my jobs is to
make sure nothing in the way of food stays on the floor very long
if it's dropped.
(I'm particularly good at THAT job).
This is me. Cute, ain't I?
I found my mom when she was at a Petco store. They were having a
Pet Adoption
Day. I was left in a backyard by a lady who took care of me before.
But she
had to move, and couldn't take me with her, so she left me. Some
people came
and took me to a noisy, smelly place they called 'The Pound'. I"m
not sure how long
I was there, but I know that all of a sudden everyone started looking
at me with
long, sad faces. Oh well.......by the way, what does 'Death Row'
mean?
A lady came and got me and took me to a 'foster home'. Then
someone put me
in a pet carrier, and took me to Petco. It was raining that day,
and I was dirty and
smelly and hungry, and I had to pee. I didn't think anyone would
want to take me
home, but then I saw my mom. She came over to my cage, and I wagged
everything
from my ears back, and tried to look REAL CUTE. And it worked!!!!!
Next thing I
knew, I was going home with her!
Me and my mom at Christmas (I'm sucking up, hoping for an extra
treat.)
Anyway, back to my story. My mom didn't realize it when she took
me home with her,
but I have had a lot of education and training. I finished K-9 Obedience
schoool, and then got my K-9 Good Citizen's Award. From there, I
went to
Therapy Dog training, and finished that. Sometimes when my mom and
me
have time, we visit the nursing homes in this area. I like to do
that, and I always
get a hamburger as a treat for doing a good job.
(WANTED...DEAD OR ALIVE)
So I guess the moral of my story is this: If you are wanting to get
a pet,
think about getting a dog or (shudder) cat from a pet adoption organization.
We
make good pets, our health is usually guaranteed by the agency,
and we are
always grateful for getting a second chance.
Ok..have to get busy...it's almost time for my supper. If I look
REALLY REALLY
pitiful, maybe I'll get something off the table. Come back again,
and
next time, bring treats, will ya? (Hi Aunt Kim!!)
Hey...while I think
of it, leave me a note in my mom's guest book,
will ya? I don't have my own book, but she will make sure I get
the message.
Thanks. Arf!!!!
When God Made Dogs
When God had made the Earth and sky,
The flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals
And all the birds and bees.
And when his work was finished,
Not one was quite the same.
He said, 'I'll walk this earth of mine,
And give each one a name,'
And so he travelled land and sea,
And everywhere he went,
A little creature followed Him
Until his strength was spent.
And when all were named upon the Earth,
And in the sky and sea,
The little creature said,'Dear Lord,
There's not one left for me!'
The Father smiled and softly said:
'I've left you till the end.
I've turned my own name back to front,
And called you DOG, my friend.'
This is in memory of all the animals who never make it to a new home
and end up
homeless, and finally lose their lives because someone stopped loving
them. Also in
memory, and in honor, of all the K-9 cops out there.
I'll see you all on Rainbow Bridge.
