My real name is Barbara. I live in St. Louis, Missouri, with my dog JJ. (JJ has his own page on this site....be sure and visit him!) I have been a nurse for almost 20 years, most of that time spent working with the geriatric population.
I have 2 grown children, Jeff and Cassie, who live in Ilinois. I also have 4 great grandkids....3 girls and a boy. They keep me young, but I don't get to visit with them as often as I would like.
This is me at my nursing school graduation...a very proud time for me.
My favorite picture of myself. Taken in Jamaica. I was probably
wondering if I left the iron on at home. hehehe
"Singing with the band" at a Parrot Head function. (If you're not
sure what a Parrot Head is, see the Parrot Head page on the site index) I"m
the only woman who is not standing behind a microphone and not wearing anything on her head. If you still can't pick
me out, I"m in big trouble.
Me now.
My Hobbies:
I am a member of the St.Louis Parrot Head club, and also serve as
their web master. I thoroughly enjoy the time I spend with those great
people, and enjoy the feeling of 'giving' that I get from our many charity
and fund-raising events each year. I also enjoy reading, Stephen King being
one of my favorites. I have a book called "Mistral's Daughter' by Judith
Kranz that I read every year, once a year. I guess you could say it's my
favorite book. The book that I consider to be the most important one ever
written, and one every human being should read, is 'The Velveteen Rabbit'.
This book contains an invaluable lesson: that no human being is really
'finished' until he or she has gone through the experiences in life that
make him or her real. You aren't "real" until your fuzz has been loved
off.
Painting, usually with oils, is also a hobby I have enjoyed in the past, although right now there isn't much time for that. I hope to be able to get back into it soon. My favorite subjects are trees, old barns and people.
And of course, there's Jj. He is not only my best buddy, but he is also my job and my hobby. He requires lots of care and lots of love, and I try to provide both. He has a very interesting story, and I hope you visit his page and read about his journey to me.
My Concerns:
I have two major concerns: Domestic Abuse and Senior Citizens. As
a past victim of domestic violence and abuse, I have learned a great deal
about healing and moving on. I have devoted a page on this web site to
information, poetry and links concerning this important but sad issue.
Please take time to visit.
Ever since I was a child and decided that my grandfather was my biggest hero, I have enjoyed, and realized the worth of, our country's senior citizens. A wise man once said "When an old person dies, it's like a library burning down". I truly believe that. If you are fortunate enough to have an 'old person' in your family or among your list of friends, take time to sit and REALLY listen to that person. They have wonderful wisdom, humor and insight to share with us, if we will only listen.
Thank you for taking the time to visit this page. We have angels
among us....find yours and have faith in her.
Barbara
