        What is "Spirituality"?

What does it mean to be seeking "spirit" or being "spiritual"?  To me, it means finding the truth within you. A person does not have to be of a certain faith or a certain religion to be "spiritual". You don't have to be religious either. A person can be spiritual but not religious. I've known people who are "religious" but that doesn't mean they are "spiritual". They pray, go to church, read the Bible, but have no concept of what it is all about. They do things because it is required, or because they have come to believe it is the only way in to heaven, and/or they pass judgment on others who do not believe as they do. We all have met or heard of others who profess to be religious but yet they pass judgment on others and do it in the name of "God". They tell you God hates homosexuals, Blacks, non-whites, etc. I'm not saying it is wrong (nor am I saying it is right) for what they do, but to me it is not being "spiritual". To me, God (or whatever you choose to call him/her) is all loving and loves all his/her children and it doesn't matter what color you are, what sex you are, and what your sexual preference is. GOD IS LOVE.  Finding your spirit is finding the truth that exists in all of us. We just need to learn it and recognize it within ourselves. Each person has their own "truth " and their beliefs will be different according to how they understand what their truth is. In return, they should respect another's spirituality for it their truth. We need to come to understand that basically we are all the same and believe in a higher power no matter what name you give him/her. To tell another that they are wrong and must believe a certain way I feel is  wrong. Many organized religions believe they are the true religion. I do not believe that in order to pass from this world to the next and see the Creator, that we must be of a certain faith. I've had people of  certain religions come to my house and they get very upset because I have statues of Angels, The Blessed Virgin, and Jesus. Right away they point out that I am idolizing false Gods. Needless to say they get no further because I will not even listen to them because they are to quick to pass judgment without even knowing anything about me. I am happy for them that they are comfortable with their "truth" but their "truth" is not my "truth". Finding your "spirit" is finding out who you are, what is within you, and bringing the love forth. If you are happy with yourself and love yourself, you can then let your light shine and love others. They will see the light in you and will be attracted to it. We all have it within ourselves but many times we are so busy with making money, dealing with families and jobs, letting others decide what we will believe and  even how to pray that we forget who we are and we do not see the spirit in ourselves. We reach a point in life and ask ourselves, "Is this all there is"? We no longer think for ourselves because we have always let someone else determine what we believe. I was raised Catholic and I raise my kids Catholic. However, I do teach them to think and ask questions. Many of the rules the church has are made by man and not by God. I also teach them that it is okay to question what you read in the Bible. Everyone has their own interpretation of what is said and it is up to each of us to interpret it the way we understand. But if we look within ourselves, we will find the answers there. So when people are saying they are seeking their "spirit", it means they are seeking their true selves.

Do I believe in the prophecies, healing practices, and other paranormal things? Yes. The prophecies were written in the Bible and I believe that while Jesus was on earth after his resurrection, he shared this and many other teachings with people all over the world. This would explain the prophecies of the Mayans, the Native Americans, the Aborigines, etc. Their prophecies are so similar and they all talk of a "Great Teacher" who shared them with them. I also believe that prophecies can change when a different path is taken. To me, Prophecies are what can happen if a certain path is followed but for each path, there are many other directions you can go. So you can change a prophecy if you change the path taken. I also believe that we are capable of many things. We just haven't tapped into our brains and soul  yet. There are so many things we do not understand yet or choose to ignore, yet Jesus told the people "You only need the faith of a mustard seed and you can do so much". We only like to believe what we can see and if we can't see it then it is not real. I wonder what would happen if Jesus did come back today? We would probably ignore him, call him a fake, and we would have scientists explain away everything. We rely on what scientists say instead of listening to what is inside of us. We could witness a miracle and be inspired by it. But then if the scientists explained it away, then we would say it never happened.  If that is true, then why do we believe what is written in  the Bible? Scientists have tried to explain away "Adam and Eve", the resurrection of Lazarius, the Ark, etc. So if we believe in what is in the Bible, then why can't we believe in what is happening today? Why must we have "proof"? Why can't we just listen to the "truth" inside of us? I can't see an atom, but scientists tell us the atom exists. So why should we just believe them when they tell us it is so and not in what faith teaches us?
Seeking your spirit is simply seeking the truth in you and knowing what the truth is for you. Each person has their own and if we respected each person for their belief, we would be much closer to excepting each person for who they are and what is inside of them instead of what color they are, what religion they are, what they look like, what their sex is and what their sexual preference is. You don't have to agree with them, but you can respect their spirit. I hope each of you finds what is the "truth" within yourselves and learns to respect the truth of others.

With any journey we take, you are probably asking "How do I get there and how do I find it?"
Each person has a different path to take and must decide themselves on what their destination is. But for most, it is to be happy with themselves and find an inner peace. Sure, it sounds easy but it's nice. Most of the time, we have to work at it. We have to really look at ourselves and decide on what changes we need to make with our lives. The process doesn't happen overnight , nor will it happen in a week, month, or even a yr. It's an on going process and as we start to find our spirit, we will find we will make many changes in our lives and way of thinking as we go. But as you make the changes in your life, you will find things much easier to do, you will realize what is important and what isn't, and you will find happiness.

Please allow time for the wav file to load. I'm sure you will enjoy it. It is by Joanne Shenadoah and it is from her album called "Matriarch". It is songs of the Iroquois Women. If you get a chance, get her album. Her songs are soothing and very spiritual.
