66 Dart "Motorvation"

Lately, I have been trying to figure out what direction the drivetrain for the 66 is going in.
I have looked at several different possibilites including:

  • Current .030 over 340 with MP .284 purple shaft, ported 587 heads
  • Buy a 71-74 360 shortblock and build it with the same 587 heads
  • Add Nitrous to either of the above
  • 71-74 360 overbored to 340 specs with MPs new 4" stroker crank, Ross Pistons and Eagle rods
  • Current 340 with the 4" stroker, pistons and rods
  • ATI Procharger on a 9:1 forged pistoned, eagle rodded, stroked 360 (ohhhhhhh yeaaaahhhhhh!)
  • Procharger on my 340 with 9:1 slugs, eagle rods (high winding for the blower)
  • Add a 5 speed Tremec to any of the above
  • Stroked and Poked early 360 with forged pistons, eagle rods and 4" MP stroker crank
    fed by twin turbos and a Tremec 5 speed (woohooooo!!!!)

    But, I had to compromise somewhere.

    So... I've decided to build a Twin Turbo'd, Intercooled, 340, 4 speed Dart. Stay with me... a lot more to come.


    Drivetrain



    The used Lakewood Scattershield that I bought. Popped the tranny and bell into the 66 to check out clearances on the bell. A little work is needed but a lot was already done to the tranny tunnel to fit the 727 that was planned on going in it. The floorpan lip HAS to be removed completly! Liberal use of a 2# sledge is suggested.

    The plan is to use a McLeod hydraulic throw-out bearing that I have purchased along with a Hurst master cylinder. Stay tuned.

    Exhaust Headers
    These pics are of the required cutouts for Hooker Supercomp headers (#5208). I plan on using a set of Spitfire Headers in place of the Hookers. If the twin turbo happens though, I will have to make my own headers or maybe I can talk Harold at Spitfire to bend me up a set of primary tubes!
