Leaving Hawaii

It took about 2 weeks to prep the boat. On board would be
Chris the Captain, Amy his girlfriend, Peter the owner, someone
I knew for years, and myself. The purpose of this trip was to
take the boat to Tahiti and keep it there as
Peter was getting married to a local girl
named Kiki.

Peter and Kiki on wedding day-Moorea 1980

We motor sailed almost the entire way due to lack of wind.
Seer has alot of sail area and it took quite a bit of wind to get
her moving. We all took turns at the helm, my favorite watch being in
the wee hours of the morning while it was still dark. When it was a
full moon you could see the planktin shimmering in the wake. I loved it !!
It was spiritual, the few hours before morn broke, my special quiet time.Watching
daybreak over a vast ocean was breath taking everyday!

All and all it was a great trip, great weather, topped off the freezer
with fresh tuna and mahi we had caught along the way and had our shellback
party at the equator.Chris was on the radio most the day calling K.M.I.
(ship to shore) so we could all say hi to our families.

I was down below sleeping when the islands came into view only to be
awaken by screams of "Land Hooooooooo"!!!!Tripping over myself to get on
deck I gazed out at the most beautiful site I'd ever layed on eyes.
Past the reef into the blue/green lagoons up to the soft green majestic
mountains and with a faint hint of plumeria in the air, I knew I had
found my magic place, my engery source.....My Home!!!!

The Decision to Stay!

My initial plan was to sail down to Tahiti, stay 2 weeks and return to
Hawaii. All that changed when we sailed to Moorea. French Polynesia was
everything I wanted Hawaii to be only I was about 50 years to late.
Moorea was and still is the most beautiful place I have ever laid eyes
on.There were many things to consider before moving, I'd be on a tiny
island smack dab in the middle of the south pacific completely
surrounded by 2000 miles of water in every direction, I would be leaving
my friends and family behind, How would I support myself?, and then
of sourse the cultural differences, and language barrier. not just
one language but 2 or 3! I spent days in deep thought trying to decide ...
NOT!!!!
hahahahahaha , didn't even think twice about it .

Check out the lagoons!!!!
