Character List

• The Leaders:
  • Old Deuteronomy--the wise benevolent Jellicle leader--father to many of the Jellicles
  • Munkustrap--A wise, young grey tabby--he is the leader when Old Deuteronomy isn't around, and he'll most likely take his place when he dies--Demeter is his queen (?)
• The Queens:
  • Bombalurina--a sharp, red queen--sister to Demeter--possibly once had some sort of relationship with Macavity--she's very protective of Demeter, and very close to her--wants to be noticed by Tugger
  • Demeter--A gold and black queen--sister to Bombalurina--is believed to have had a relationship with Macavity in the past, which is how she knows so much about him, and possibly be related to Grizzabella somehow--she is very close to her sister--she seems a bit nervous and high-strung--Munkustrap is now her tom (?)
  • Rumpelteazer--a fun-loving, brightly striped cat burglar--she and her brother (?) Mungojerrie love tormenting the human family with whom they live--she and Mungojerrie are technically Macavity's agents, but they are still Jellicles and probably incapable of any real harm
  • Jennyanydots--one of the older queens; an aunt to everybody--she seems to have a bit of a crush on Bustopher Jones, but it also seems that her tom (if she has one) is Skimbleshanks; she definitely seems more suited for him--some believe that Pouncival is her kitten
  • Jellylorum--an older calico who's a lot like Jenny, only a bit more uppity and high strung--a friend to Jenny--her tom is possibly Asparagus (?)
  • Exotica--little is known about this character as she was created so that Femi Taylor, who was the original Tantomile, could have a part in the video; she's hard to find while watching it and is only noticeable in a couple of places
  • Cassandra--she is often referred to as being a Simese but, as the coloring is wrong, I believe her to more likely be a Burmese or an Oriental Shorthair--her piercing, Sphinx-like gaze and her determined movements make her intriguing and almost enigmatical...and she can sing, too!--it is possible that Alonzo is her tom (?)
• The Toms:
  • Gus--old, shaggy, and trembling; at first glance Gus seems a sorry sight...but as he sings one can sense the fire still in him
  • The Rum Tum Tugger--probably an Egyptian Mau (he has spots; the Egyptian Mau is the only domestic cat to naturally have this characteristic)--the "rock star" cat--he is loved by all the queens (ESPECIALLY the kittens) and envied by all the toms--he pays more attention to Bombalurina than he does to any of the other quens, but he's not the type to make a lasting commitment ;) (Note: I'm starting to feel like I'm writing a character list for some horrid cat soap opera ;) )
  • Skimbleshanks--an orange tabby with a long brown tail--he is an older tom, cheerful and like an uncle to everybody--he looks out after Jemima especially, and many believe that he is her father--his queen (if he has one) is Jennyanydots (?)
  • Bustopher Jones--a fat, wealthy black cat who wears white spats--admired by all the Jellicles--Mistoffelees is his nephew, and is especially proud of him
  • Mungojerrie--a fun-loving, brightly striped catburglar--he and his sister (?) Rumpelteazer love tormenting the human family with whom they live--he and Rumpelteazer are technically Macavity's agents, but they are still Jellicles and probably incapable of any real harm
  • Mr. Mistoffelees--a magic black cat with a white face and paws--he seems, like the twins, to almost sense things before they happen--he is young, just barely out of kittenhood--he is always the best dancer in the show--he is very proud of Bustopher Jones, who is his uncle--Victoria is his queen (or at least he wants her to be) (?)--many people say that before the "Mistoffelees" number his name is Quaxo; I've always been a bit confused about that
  • Tumblebrutus--the most well-behaved of the younger toms; can be seen with Misto or Jenny a lot--his name discribes him beautifully as he's always doing backflips and whatnot--he doesn't feel that he has to prove himself, unlike many of the other younger toms
  • Asparagus--one of the older toms--can be seen with Skimble, Jenny, and Jelly a lot (looking very parental)--his name is rather confusing since "Asparagus" is also Gus' full name
  • Alonzo--a young black and white tom--seems to almost have a friendly rivalry with Misto (over what? Victoria, perhaps? hmmm...)--is a bit on the wild side and will probably be a lot like Tugg when he gets older
  • Plato--a controversial character indeed--he is the one dancing alone with Victoria as she graduates to cathood during the catnap scene (it is a wide belief, almost a doctrine, that the two are supposed to be mating during this scene, but I'm still a bit skeptical about that)--he is played by the same actor who plays Macavity, and some believe he really IS Macavity in disguise, keeping tabs on all the Jellicles
  • Admetus--not much is known about him--he is played by the same actor who plays Rumpuscat (Note: I did not even know Admetus existed until I saw it mentioned somewhere (he and Plato are uncredited), and then I was able to find him on the vid--I had probably mistaken him for Plato many times; they do look a bit alike)
• The Twins:
  • Coricopat and Tantomile--if they were any closer, they'd be the same cat--they look alike, and most of the time they move in creepy unison with each other--they share each other's thoughts, and seem to almost sense things before they happen--their only major difference is that Coricopat is male and Tantomile is female
• The Kittens:
  • Victoria--commonly known as "the white cat," Victoria is the oldest of the kittens; in fact, she grows up during the Jellicle Ball--she is always the best dancing queen in the show--she is the first to accept Grizzabella--she flirts with most all the toms (and possibly mates with Plato (???) ), but she seems to show special interest in Mistoffelees
  • Jemima--she is known as "Sillabub" (Silly + Beelzebub) in U.S. productions--she is the youngest of the kittens, and seems to be the most perceptive and in touch with Grizzabella's true feelings--although somewhat philosophical at times, she is after all a kitten, and thus playful and fun-loving--I've heard that Skimbleshanks is her father and Jennyanydots is her mother...hmmm...(this doesn't go along with Jenny being Pounce's mother; the two do not act like brother and sister--I personally think that Skimble is Jemima's father and Jenny is Pounce's mother, and who knows who the other father and mother are)
  • Pouncival--he is the only male kitten in the show (actually, his age is not completely agreed upon; some say that he is an adult)--as his name suggests, he is a fun-loving mischief maker--some people say that he is Jennyanydots' kitten (I kinda think that maybe she adopted him)--he gives Jenny the most trouble during her number; watch him, he chases her with a fork! teehee ;)
  • Electra--not too much is known about her--she appears to be a tortiseshell and loves Tugg like all the others! :) I'm personally beginning to think that she is perhaps Jellylorum's kitten? *shrug*
  • Etcetera--she's a crazy, adorable little kitten--definitely Tugg's BIGGEST fan--on the video I personally think that she is the most catlike in her various movements and facial expressions, with Cassandra coming in a close second
• The Villains:
  • Macavity--he is a bright, fire-striped tom who never speaks a word throughout the show but fills the Yard with his eerie, wicked laughter--he is said to have had a relationship with Demeter and possibly with Bombalurina as well
  • The Henchcats--they follow Macavity silently, carrying out his evil works--some say they are cats, some say they are rats, some say they are a combination of both; bu whatever they are, they are no good and black clear through (well, one of them apparently has a white spot on the end of his tail, but that's an entirely different story)
• The Outcast:
  • Grizabella--an old, haggard queen that left the tribe years ago to seek a stage career; now she's back and wants to be accepted again, but all the other Jellicles feel that she has betrayed them and so shun her
• The Literary Characters:
  • The Pekes and the Pollicles--two rival groups of dogs--played by the Jellicles dressed up in garbage
  • The Great Rumpuscat--"superhero" cat that stopped the fighting between the Pekes and the Pollicles
  • Growltiger--a pirate cat who, after eyars of tormenting other animals, was forced by his victims to walk the plank--played by Gus
  • Griddlebone--Growltiger's somewhat cowardly queen; she fled as he was captured--played by Jellylorum
