My Thoughts

Merle was a wonderful choice for Arkadina in The Seagull. She had just the right combination of frivolity, flippancy, self-centeredness, and absurdity to be an interesting and still believable character. Her "attack" on Trigorin to make him her's again is a perfect illustration of her skills in this role. I applaud any woman (actress or not) who can, while in full dress and petticoat, attack and pin a man to the ground all the while emphatically proclaiming her undying love and need for him. Merle is a shining example of the talented actors we have here in Kansas City.
