Module Purpose
To provide the knowledge and skills required to recruit, lead and develop employees, while complying with relevant Acts, Regulations, Awards and Agreements.
Prerequisites
Labour Supervision – Module Code 45-018.
Summary of Content
- Recruiting staff, including development of job descriptions and advertisments.
- Conducting interviews, including development of selection criteria, and selection/appointment.
- Induction training.
- Leading, motivating and empowering staff.
- Developing work teams and managing operational risk. Use of management systems in the workplace.
- Counselling staff and terminating employment.
- Legislative requirements, compliance with relevant Acts, Regulations, Awards and Agreements.
Learning Outcomes
- Describe and demonstrate the knowledge and skills required, to manage staff in a rural environment, including leadership, motivation and empowerment of personnel, and development of work teams.
- Prepare and deliver a recruitment and induction program.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to counsel and /or dismiss staff.
- Identify and interpret Acts, Regulations and Agreements relevant to a rural workplace.
Assessment Methods
- Assignments
- Case studies
- A single assessment activity may assess more than one learning outcome.
- Assessments will be conducted as a normal part of on-going learning.
- A number of classroom exercises will be conducted and will contribute to the assessment of the module.
- Satisfactory completion of all assignments, case studies and classroom exercises is required to obtain a pass in this module.
Assessment
- Two written assignments (essays) of about 5000 words each, shall be submitted by all students, on topics to be nominated. Thirty marks each (maximum) shall be allocated for the two assignments.
- One class presentation shall be made by each student, on topics to be nominated. Thirty marks (maximum) shall be allocated for the presentation.
- Ten marks (maximum) shall be allocated for class participation (role play, exercises etc.).
