Legend of the Bird
Among the Tsalagi, the Bird Clan people were extremely fond of birds. They raised and trained ravens, crows, hawks, eagles and other birds. The Bird Clan people were the only ones who were allowed to kill the sacred eagle, though few would do so as a person had to know all the right medicines and prayers to keep from being harmed by the eagle spirit.
These people were the keepers of the sacred feathers, when someon earned an eagle feather, it was the Bird Clan who presented it to the person.
The Bird Clan was also the keepers of the bird medicines. They were a warring clan that many war chiefs, and oddly enough, many peace chiefs came from.
The clan also had it's share of medicine peoples who were sometimes known as sprit healers or wind walkers.
They were a very spiritual clan. The caln peoples were messengers in both the physcial and spiritual world.
The hunters of the clan were proficient hunters using blowguns and snares.
The clan's sacred direction is East, the color is purple, and the wood that they brought to the sacred fire is maple.
