It's Up to Me...
Outside my window, another day.
It can be bright, or it can be gray.
It can be filled with tasks well done.
With love and friends, with joy and fun.
The blessing of choice is given to me,
To color this new day that I see.

"One nation under God."
This prayer was given in Kansas at the opening session of their Senate. It seems the prayer upset some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:

"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We confess that we have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it Pluralism. We have worshipped other gods and called it multiculturalism. We have endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle. We have exploited the poor and called it lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbors possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us to the center of Your will and to openly ask these things in the name of your Son, the living Savior Jesus Christ. AMEN."
The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer, in protest. In six short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for pieces of this prayer from India, Africa, and Korea, among others. Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, "The Rest of the Story," and received a larger response to this than any other he has ever aired. If possible, please pass this prayer and message on to friends. With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and whole heartedly become our desire so that we again can be called "One nation under God."

I am not buddist, and I dont even know if the Dali Lama said these things...
but I find these words of advice to hold true, no matter religion..and I hope I can live up to at least a few...

Instructions for Life in the new millennium from the Dali Lama:
*Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
*When you lose, don't lose the lesson.
*Follow the three R's: Respect for self, Respect for others, Responsibility for all your actions.
*Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
*Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
*Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
*When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
*Spend some time alone every day.
*Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.
*Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
*Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time.
*A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
*In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don't bring up the past.
*Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality. *Be gentle with the earth.
*Once a year, go someplace you've never been before.
*Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
*Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
*Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

This was a forward to me and it caught me off guard...I just wanted to share it...

This is definitely worth pondering about, especially in light of the incident in California where a young female college student identified a potential repeat incident of Columbine.

Douglas Crump wrote:

Here's a question posed by a student to God:
Dear God,
Why didn't you save the school children in Littleton, Colorado?
Sincerely,
Concerned Student

Dear Concerned Student,
I am not allowed in schools.
Sincerely,
God

....Now read below for how this has unfolded in an incredibly short period of time:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let's see, I think it started when Madeline Murray O'Hare complained she didn't want any prayer in our schools.
And we said, OK...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then, someone said you better not read the Bible in school, the Bible that says "thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself."
And we said, OK...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem.
And we said, an expert should know what he's talking about so we won't spank them anymore...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then someone said teachers and principals better not discipline our children when they misbehave.
And the school administrators said no faculty member in this school better touch a student when they misbehave because we don't want any bad publicity, and we surely don't want to be sued.
And we accepted their reasoning...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And then someone said let's print magazines with pictures of nude women and call it wholesome down-to-earth appreciation for the beauty of the female body.
And we said, we have no problem with that...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And someone else took that appreciation a step further and published pictures of nude children and then stepped further still by making them available on the Internet.
And we said, everyone's entitled to free speech...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then someone said, let's let our daughters have abortions if they want, and they won't even have to tell their parents.
And we said, that's a grand idea...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then some wise school board member said, since boys will be boys and they're going to do it anyway, let's give our sons all the condoms they want,
so they can have all the fun they desire, and we won't have to tell their parents they got them at school.
And we said, that's another great idea..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Then some of our top elected officials said it doesn't matter what we do in private as long as we do our jobs. Public office is not about character debates.
And we said, it doesn't matter what anybody, including the President, does in private, or the way he has conducted himself in his past, as long as we have jobs and the economy is good...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And the entertainment industry said, let's make TV shows and movies and video games that promote profanity, violence and illicit sex...
And let's record music that encourages rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes...
And we said, it's just entertainment and it has no adverse effect and nobody takes it seriously anyway, so go right ahead...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, classmates or even themselves.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Undoubtedly, if we thought about it long and hard enough, we could figure it out. I'm sure it has a great deal to do with...
"WE REAP WHAT WE SOW."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not then just discard it...but if you discard this thought process, then don't you sit back and complain about what bad shape our country is in when bad things happen.
To give you some idea of how the world has changed, here are two lists of the top nonscholastic problems that public school students reported facing in the 1940's and in the 1990's:
1940's
1. Talking
2. Chewing gum
3. Making noise
4. Running in the halls
5. Getting out of turn in line
6. Wearing improper clothing
7. Not putting paper in wastebaskets
1990's
1. Drug Abuse
2. Alcohol Abuse
3. Pregnancy
4. Suicide
5. Rape
6. Robbery
7. Assault
Now, the people that know me, know I am not a prude, not a bible thumper, nor a saint....far from it...
but these thoughts mirror my own views and wishes for our kids to grow into....
wishes that our children could grow up with the values we grew up with....were they so wrong?
hopes that parents could take more time with their children, teach them about morals, values, respect...
and not just think that they will learn them somewhere else!
Take responsibility for your own actions!
