Allana examined herself in front of her mirror; her new red dress was cut lower and showed more of her legs than anything she owned. She smiled to herself as she made sure her hair and make up looked perfect. Nick told her this was going to be a night to remember and she knew it.

With one last look in the mirror she said to herself, "I’m going to knock him dead tonight."

Tonight they were celebrating their seventh anniversary. Allana’s heart began to beat faster as she thought back on that day when he vowed they’d stay together. To have and hold her in his heart and she promised him forever until death do them apart. Sealed with a tender kiss she can’t help but reminisce and smile.

"Nick where are we going?" Allana asked in the car.

"You’ll see." He replied with a bright smile.

She turned her attention back to watching the scenery pass by them as she played with her wedding ring then put her hand her pocket feeling the papers that made her heart ache. She turned back to Nick and held back tears.

They drove to the top of the canyon where Nick proposed. Allana smiled as she thought about that night and how wonderful it was. Nick interrupted her thoughts as he took her by the hand and led her to the small table by the edge the city lights below them.

Allana sat down as Nick poured them champagne. He looked into her emerald eyes and smiled. She just stared at him and her eyes seemed distant.

"Lana you ok sweetie?" Nick asked his voice filled with concern.

"I’m fine." She coldly replied continuing her stare.

‘Could she know?’ Nick asked himself as he took another drink of his champagne.

They sat in silence both nibbling at their food obvious they both had something on their mind other than spending the night together celebrating their love that lasted seven years.

"Nick." Allana said breaking the silence.

Nick looked up at her as she continued.

"Do you remember our wedding? Every single detail of that day? When you vowed we’d stay together to have and to hold until death do us part?" She asked never looking anywhere but his gorgeous blue eyes and reaching into her coat pocket feeling the letters his lover wrote. Her heart began to beat faster as she waited for his reply.

"Of course I do. How could I forget?" He replied.

Allana took a deep breath still looking at him and said, "Nick I know."

"Know what?" He asked innocently.

She didn’t reply she just stood up and threw the letters on the table and looked at him with sad eyes.

"Lana I can explain."

She shook her head and said, "Don’t. I promised you forever until death do us part but obviously love took a fatal twist."

She slowly walked back to the car leaving Nick sitting there with a dumbfounded look on his face. She threw the car in gear and drove off back down the dusty road.

She began to cry in the car and then said out loud to herself, "No doubt this was a night to remember."
