And Baby Makes Three
Steven and Gia just got the shock of their life - they are having a baby. Is it smooth sailing from here for this twosome?
Steven and Gia had been dating for awhile when she suddenly awoke not feeling that well. Steven found her in the bathroom heaving in the toilet. Concerned, Steven helped her into a hot bath while they talked about what was going on. Off hand, Gia mentioned that she would have to stop craving food in the middle of the night because it was making her sick. This clicked with Steven - Gia could be pregnant! At first she laughed it off until she realized he was right. He rushed out to get a test while she contemplated just how much this was going to change their lives. He returned and five minutes later they were officially going to be parents. Gia was nervous but Steven was there to comfort her. In full doctor/father to be mode, Steven made her promise not to take on a lot of stressful tasks at work.
Gia got a call from her brother, Marcus. It seems that Detective Taggert is back in town! Overjoyed, Gia rushed out to meet him at Kelly's. Immediately, Marcus knew that something was up with his sister. She confessed she had met a new man - and that he is everything she wants and more. She then told him that she was pregnant! Marcus was a little taken aback by the news and demanded to know if she and Steven planned to marry. Gia told him that this was the year 2005 and that many families were happy without being legally tied. She decided the best way to calm Marcus' fears was to introduce him to Steven.
At the same time Gia was talking to Marcus, Steven was working at General Hospital. He was surprised when he was approached an old colleague, Dr. Rachel Adair. She had just taken a job at General Hospital - the problem is that she is temporarily out of money. Seeing is how she took the blame for the botched operation, she thought that Steven owed her. She tried to get him to agree to letting her stay at his place, but Steven knew that neither he nor Gia would go for that! So he ended up agreeing to paying for her to have a room at Kelly's. Rachel walked away after proposing to have a lunch between she, Steven and Gigi...uh, Gia.
Gia brought her brother back to Steven's place so the two men could finally meet. She tried to make Marcus promise to play nice but he just wasn't going to bite. He even introduced himself as Gia's "overprotective brother". Realizing that he had to take it careful, Steven told Marcus that he cared for Gia deeply and that he would always be there for her and their baby. Gia eavesdropped from the kitchen, overjoyed at her brother seemed to be taking it well. He wasn't exactly being friendly to Steven, but then again he wasn't threatening to kill him either. Marcus left and Gia congratulated Steven on surviving the first meeting.
Steven then told Gia about his meeting with Rachel, admitting that he had let her take the blame. Gia reacted by firmly planting herself on his side, surprsing him. She explained that she was no angel herself and she was in no place to judge. Steven was relieved but told her that he would handle Rachel, and she would take care of the baby. The two then went to Cameron's first birthday party. There, Gia seemed to glow and she happily announced her pregnancy to her friend Alexis. She didn't need to tell Emily. The other woman instinctively knew.
After Alexis and Emily were told, Gia informed Steven that it was time to let his sister know. She happily told Elizabeth that she was about to become an aunt. Liz was excited for her brother and Gia, and couldn't help teasing Steven. Steven took it all in stride still convinced they were going to have a boy. For the rest of the party, the happy couple watched Cameron realizing they would soon be heading down this path. Later that night as they settled into sleep, Gia and Steven talked about where they would raise their baby - his apartment just wouldn't do. Gia suggested they go house shopping and Steven agreed. Everything was coming together!
The next day, Steven was part of the team that worked to transplant the heart of Trey's daughter into baby Ella. It was a harrowing procedure but Steven had a desire to save the baby - children were becoming more precious to him by the minute. The surgery was a success and Steven decided to celebrate with fellow doctor, Tom Miller. Meanwhile, Gia was out for a walk when she became convinced that she had found her new home. She was on cloud nine when she ran into Hannah Scott. Things were a little uncomfortable but Gia did tell her about her pregnancy and that her brother Marcus, Hannah's ex, was still in town.
After talking with Hannah, Gia met Steven at the hospital for a sonogram. They had agreed before hand to find out the sex of their baby. Gia continued to tease Steven with the idea of a daughter although she was secretly convinced he was right and they were going to have a son. She had taken to calling the baby 'Bumpy' in reference to her visible belly. Steven and Gia were told that their baby was healthy...and Steven got his wish - their baby was a boy. Steven and Gia left elated. Everything was going so well!
The next night, Steven and Gia attended the Vargos boat party. Both were still on a high about their baby boy. At the party the pair mingled, and shared their good news. When the boat exploded and began to sink, Steven made sure that Gia was in one of the first boats. She ended up being stranded with Lorenzo Alcazar, Courtney Matthews, and AJ Quartermaine. She spent most of her time talking with Lorenzo who shared the story of his lost child. Back on shore and safe in Steven's arms, the pair went to the hospital to make sure the baby was okay. After getting the thumbs up, the two went home and cuddled together in bed. Steven surprised Gia by proposing and she estatically agreed!
The next morning, Gia awoke feeling elated. She decided that she would start putting together Little Bumpy's nursery. She was sitting on the bed contemplating what they would need when she felt a flutter - her baby's first movement. Overwhelmed, she called Elizabeth to ask her to go with her. Elizabeth agreed and the two headed out to raid the huge baby store downtown. Steven was soon visited by Zander and his nephew Cameron. The two discussed how their lives were going to change while Gia was trying to resist the urge to take everything in sight. Everything was going good until Gia doubled over in pain. Elizabeth rushed to help, calling an ambulance...but she realized something was very wrong.
Gia was rushed to the hospital, already knowing that she was losing the baby. She begged Elizabeth to call Steven and Elizabeth informed her brother what was happening. Zander drove Steven, worried that he would hurt himself trying to get their as fast as he could. When they got there, Steven rushed to Gia's side. She told him that she knew the baby was dying and she apologized profusely. He told her to have hope but they were dashed when the scan revealed no heartbeat. Gia was rushed to surgery, and when she awoke she no longer had her baby. Together they decided to name him Noah. Steven tried to console her but she was unresponsive.
