Dimetrodon Grandis lived 270 million years ago during the Permian period. It lived primarily in swampy areas and wet envoirments in general. It's most unique and recognizable feature is the sail on it's back. The sail is much like that of Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus. Like Spinosaurus, the sail probably was used to attract mates and control the body temperature. It probably was also used to make the Dimetrodon appear more intimidating.

Dimetrodon Grandis has large and powerful jaws with two types of teeth: sharp fang-like teeth in the front for killing prey, and smaller cheek-like teeth in the back for shredding the meat. Dimetrodon is somewhat similar to Crocodiles, mainly because it's legs are on the sides of the body while other Dinosaurs have their legs underneath their bodies. The body shape is also somewhat similar to that of a Crocodile's. Despite the body structure, Dimetrodon was capable of running very fast to outrun it's potential prey during the Permian. It was the dominant land Predator of it's time. It disappeared at the beginning of the Triassic.

InGen's Dimetrodon is amongst the last of the Dinosaurs they cloned. They had significant stocks of Dimetrodon DNA, so their Dimetrodon is fairly accurate to it's 270 million-year old ancestor. It's amongst their more accurate and less flawed Dinosaurs. The hunting strategies and techniques are the same as they were 270 million years ago. InGen's Dimetrodon hunts in a style similar to that of Alligators & Crocodiles. It's an effective swimmer and skilled at ambushing. The Dimetrodon is a formidable enemy in Jurassic Park and extreme caution is to be exercised upon encountering it.
