Sometimes within our zest for life,
And all the confusion it brings;
We overlook the obvious...
The joy of simple things.
The music of children's laughter,
The affection of a beloved pet,
The kind words of a cherished friend,
Little things at times we forget.
The smell of freshly cut grass,
A babies first precious smile,
A bubbling pot of soup on the stove,
Just quietly sitting a while.
The aroma of warm baked bread,
Crisp apples from the tree,
Parsley sprigs upon your plate,
The rich shade of burgundy.
The sun's reflection on a calm lake,
A parade coming down the street,
A spider web covered in morning dew,
Warm socks on cold damp feet.
Fresh sheets coming in off the line,
Hot cocoa and warm buttered toast,
The romantic magic of moonlight,
The waves crashing up on the coast.
The golden colors of autumn,
The scent of lilacs in spring,
The crisp clean first snow of winter,
A long, lazy day spent fishing.
The smell of brewed coffee in the morning,
The warmth on your face from the sun,
Knowing your children are safely in bed,
Hearing a heartfelt ... "Well done."
The things that make us truly rich,
And make our life worth living;
Are often things we overlook,
The gifts that keep on giving.
Hold them all close, embrace them,
Keep them tender in your care.
Then take these little simple things,
And learn at last to share.
