When It Snows

I stood before my window
Many months ago
And promised to remember
When I saw it snow...
Our love and our friendship
From days that had gone by,
When I see a snowflake,
I hear a soft sweet sigh.
Winter is so harsh so cold
And rarely is it fair,
Like I thought days without you
I surely could not bear.
When I see the snow clouds
Up above begin to grow,
I will sadly remember
Those many months ago.
I whisper in the silence now
Where once I heard your voice
If I could save one memory
That would be my choice.
White crystals land upon my sill
And melt before my eyes
Like dreams I had once long ago
Of love that never dies.
Cold, alone and empty
I now take time to see
Snow falls and melts, and disappears
Just like you and me.
Feelings sometimes linger,
Perhaps longer than they should
And lay inside and haunt my soul,
Id free them if I could.
I stand before icy windows
In the shadow of my dreams
Knowing now inside my heart
Loves not always what it seems.
When I see the flakes of wonder
I will remember all the days
The times when I reached for you
In oh so many ways.
It is time for me to end them,
It is time for me to know.
No longer can I cry a tear
I have to let you go.
We never know when snow will fall
Or how long it will stay
Perhaps an hour, maybe two
Or last all night and day.
So love can be that willful
And fleeting as the snow
It remains a cloudy mystery
That I may never know.
