“EVERY DROP OF RAIN”
1/27/08

From clouds that hung from heaven
Fell a single drop of rain
In time to ride the river
Then return again someday

I landed on a mountain
Just above the evergreens
And there I sat and wondered
What the world would hold for me

I rolled between the towers
Made of timber, limbs, and leaves
Until I reached a river
Full of raindrops just like me

At first we danced on pebbles
Not much more than grains of sand
That moved aside allowing us
To carve lines in the land

The stones are all the hardships
That each drop of rain must bear
The largest ones are jagged
And my heart and soul they tear

Sometimes we get so small
That we become a brook or stream
We pray with faith for strength
And then my rapids reign supreme

We race toward a waterfall
And leap over the ledge
Then roar like august thunder
As we cause the base to spread

The mist from us that rises
To the sky in daylight sun
Creates a colored rainbow
All the creatures gaze upon

Then finally we join our friends
Together at the sea
And there we make the waves
That toss the ships if there they be

The summer sun compels us
Till a vapor we become
And float toward the heavens
When our time on earth is done

The river meets the Maker's Son
Who washed our sins away
The living Water giving life
To every drop of rain.



"ALL I HAVE TO DO IS PRAY"
5/26/08 (Memorial Day)

When my world becomes a desert
Like an endless sea of sand
And I'm homesick as a soldier
In a distant foreign land

When in faces that surround me
Only strangers do I see
And it's hard to say if they would make
A friend or foe of me

There is a way that I can find the friend I need
I simply close my eyes and fall upon my knees

I pray.
And my soul is swept away
Stolen out of time and space
To Your holy dwelling place
I pray.
And like a dream that's coming true
Lord, You draw me close to You
And there I feel Your warm embrace
All I have to do is pray

When my world becomes a forest
And there's nowhere safe to run
When my fears are like the leaves
So full they hide the sky and sun

There's a Light that rules the darkness
Full of calming joy and peace
And if I humbly come before You
You will shine this Light on me

So in the day when there's a place I'd rather be
I simply close my eyes and fall upon my knees

I pray.
And my soul is swept away
Stolen out of time and space
To Your holy dwelling place
I pray.
And like a dream that's coming true
Lord, You draw me close to You
And there I feel Your warm embrace
All I have to do is pray

Lord, if living is the question, You're the answer
For if love is light, You're brighter than the day
Jesus, You can turn my mourning into dancing
For the beauty of Your Word to me is music when I pray

I pray.

“I AM NOT THE MAN YOU SEE”

I am not the man you see
For he is full of vanity
And pride and greed and every sin
That's common to all common men

The breath of God igniting man
The unseen soul is who I am
That part the Holy Father knew
Before He formed me in the womb

Encaged inside an earthly cell
Of flesh and bone is where I dwell
Subjected to humanity
And all the laws that govern me

For now I'm waiting for the day
I spread my wings and fly away
Into the place from which I came
To join the holiest of Names

My Father Who created me
And sent me to this land and sea
To spend a time to live and learn
Until the day that I return

The prize for me that's waiting there
Is one that cannot be compared
To any gift my simple mind
Could ever think of or define

But that is not my longing, friends
That causes me to want this end
For me it all will be enough
To be enveloped in His love

What better reason could there be
To suffer temporarily
For soon enough it all will end
And I'll be free to be with Him

The Christ and Lord Who suffered more
On my behalf, Whom I adore
So spend not time in tears for me
Just keep in mind my destiny

When sinning brings your own distress
Depressed with your unrighteousness
Remember you are good as gold
To Him Who saved your mortal soul

Oh, gaze not in that darkened glass
The face you see will someday pass
Revealing who you truly are
Appealing as the Morning Star

The Son of God and Son of Man
The Lord of Lords, the great I AM
And like Him you will rise above
As perfect as God's perfect Love



“APPLES OF GOLD”

If heaven above was a garden
Full of flowers and orchards of trees
And our souls were all seeds
Planted deep in the dirt of the earth
I wonder what I will be wearing
On the ends of my branches and leaves
When the Harvesting come
Will I bear the fruit Jesus deserves?

Apples of gold
In baskets of silver
From kindness and love
Delighting the King
If I was a tree
In Jesus' garden
Would apples of gold
Be falling from me?

Do I always rely on the sunshine
And its light to illumine my way
Do I know that my need
Is its warmth on the seed in my soul
Do I know not to fear in the thunder
Do I gladly receive all the rain
Knowing deep in my heart
That the storm only helps me to grow

Apples of gold
In baskets of silver
From kindness and love
Delighting the King
If I was a tree
In Jesus' garden
Would apples of gold
Be falling from me?

Every tree in time will have its seasons
Of summer, fall, and winter's bitter cold
When harvest comes and I return to Jesus
Will apples of gold be the fruit that He beholds

Apples of gold

Shipwrecked.  Got wet.
Nothing on this island
'Cept for me and a pretty golden sunset
And the water's wave
I guess I'll pray

Sun's gone till dawn
Nothing on this island
'Cept for me and about a billion lights on
In the Milky Way
I guess I'll pray

And suddenly God is everywhere
In the heart of my soul
In the sea, in the sand and in the air
And the gentle touch of His holy breath
Just brushed across my cheek
Like an easy breeze
Bringing perfect peace

Sun rise.  Blue skies.
Nothing on this island
'Cept for me and the tears of joy that fill my eyes
Cause I'm unafraid
For I can pray
