MY FAVORITE SOUND-MY GIRL-MY HEAVENLY
BLESSINGS-MY LOVE WILL ALWAYS BE-
MY SAVIOUR AND ME-MYSTERY
“MY FAVORITE SOUND” by Jeff Leslie 6/20/99
You hide behind your pillow
When I come into your room
And you hope I never see you
Till you jump out and shout, “Boo!”
Then you cry out with a laughter
That goes straight into my heart
I’ll remember this forever
For the sound has left it’s mark
I could never write a melody
That’s sweeter to my ear
And I’ve never heard a symphony
Thats sound is even near
The perfect tone played from your instrument
The smile that sets it free
Is the nearest thing to heaven
I have ever heard or seen
So grow, please, ever slowly
Keep your innocence intact
For as long as I am living
I will always be your Dad
And whenever I’m discouraged
I will play from in my heart
The glorious tone of your sweet laughter
Where the sound has left its mark
And my troubles all will vanish
And a smile will fill my face
For my memory is perfect
Of this time and of this place
Which has been heightened by your presence
Been made perfect all around
By the simple little laughter
Of your voice. My favorite sound.
“MY GIRL” (for
Tami) by Jeff Leslie 10/10/95
My girl gives me pleasure
With a single touch alone
Her hand is like a dove’s softest feather
Her sweet love is my treasure
Worth more than precious gold
A find for which I’d gladly searched forever
My girl tells me secrets
Like music to my ears
Her words create a melody sublime
When she’s silent as a sunset
Her stillness calms my fears
Her embrace is just my special place to hide
My girl is a beauty
A portrait of God’s love
A gift beyond my greatest expectation
And though I feel unworthy
I praise my Lord above
For giving me the best of His creation
“MY HEAVENLY BLESSINGS” by Jeff Leslie 5/4/03
There will be thousands of blessings
An angel once said in a dream
I thought to myself what a marvelous message
But what are these blessings unseen?
When I was a child longing laughter
In a field of soft clouds I would play
And I wouldn't mind, neither would I complain
If it could be Christmas each day
Then later I'd like a large diamond
With bases, a bat and a ball
With all my home runs I'd be never out done
For a boy that would be best of all
Since I'm grown with a love for sweet music
I can't wait to hear angels in song
And I'll have the pleasure to pick my guitar
Instinctively singing along
I always remember His blessings
With the bread He provides every day
Imagine the feast at the table of heaven
The bounty before us He'll lay
At this time my favorite blessings
Are my church and my wife and my son
And I just can't wait till we worship on high
'Til the time of eternity's done
The best thing I learned about blessings
Surprised me when I first believed
But it has been proven now time and again
It's more blessed to give than receive
But what could Christ possibly give me
That He hasn't already before
What could He do more than die for my sin
To show I am truly adored
I hope that His heavenly blessings
Are gifts I can hold in my hand
That way I can feel them and see for myself
So easily I'll understand
Then whether there's one or a thousand
Whatever His blessings may be
The moment He gives them I'll lower my head
And lay them all down at His feet
“MY LOVE WILL ALWAYS BE” by Jeff Leslie 10/29/04
With a voice
Crying in the wilderness
There came a song
Of sweetness to my ear
Jesus called
So suddenly I ran to Him
And the sound
Was all I longed to hear
He sang, “I love you
Love you just the way you are
Yes, I love you
With a pure and simple heart
I Am the Answer
To everything you’ll ever need
Because I love you
And My love will always be.”
There’s a place
Somewhere in the quietness
I can go
And never be alone
For I call
And Jesus, then, will run to me
With a song
That’s all I long to hear
He sings, “I love you
Love you just the way you are
Yes, I love you
With a pure and simple heart
I Am the answer
To everything you’ll ever need
Because I love you
And My love will always be.”
I stand amazed at the simplicity
Of a love so perfectly designed
Faster than the speed of thought You comfort me
With words that ease my heart, my soul, and mind
The night after I wrote this, Jesus spoke “I love you” into my ear.
“MY SAVIOUR AND ME” by Jeff
Leslie ca.1978
Like the timeless waves on an endless shore
My sins are washed away
Though like countless sands on the ocean floor
He hears each word I pray
When the sun goes down and my faith is poor
He makes a brand new day
When my best of friends seems to care no more
My Lord is there to stay
Like the freshness felt from a summer's rain
He has cleansed my soul
He has made me pure and not left a stain
Now I'll ne'er grow old
Although I did wrong, He received the pain
His love has made me whole
And now I don't need to have fear again
My Lord is in control
And a love that gives His life for you
Is best by far I belive
And you can find this love so true
Between my Saviour and me
When my ship is tossed from a raging sea
He'll guide me safely through
Though the wind is strong and my sails are weak
His grace will keep me true
Every time I pray, every word I speak
He knows before I do
And He's taking care of my every need
Before my prayer is through
Yes, He's taking care of my every need
Before my prayer is through
And a love that gives His life for you
Is best by far I belive
And you can find this love so true
Between my Saviour and me
“MYSTERY” by Jeff Leslie 10/6/00
I was sitting alone.
Weary.
Silent in my suffering.
Waiting for sweet relief.
I saw a butterfly outside my window
Dancing on the gentle breeze
Finally free from its silken shell.
“That will be the day,” I said -- thinking out loud,
“When I spread wings of my own.”
Suddenly,
Something quickened my troubled heart.
“God, is that you?” I asked in the darkness.
“Yes,” He said softly.
“What was that I felt in my heart just now?”
“Describe what it felt like.” He asked.
“Like peace within a storm,
Like the sun breaking through a cloudy sky,
Like a rainbow after the rain,
Like a candle in the darkness,
Like a breath of fresh air,
Like a gentle breeze,
Like a warm coat in the winter,
Like ice water in the summer,
Like a perfect spring day,
Like a walk on a sandy beach,
Like a big soft pillow,
Like a good night’s sleep,
Like a sincere word of kindness,
Like a love song,
Like the comfort of a mother’s bosom
Like the shelter in a father’s arms
Like a hug from a favorite friend.
Like a love that never will end.
Will You let me in, Lord, on the mystery
That brings these sensations to one such as me?”
The answer came quickly
Almost before I was through,
As though He knew what I was going to say.
“My child,” He said softly.
“The answer is easy as calling My Name.
Someone just prayed for you... So I came.”
