Fred Albert McMillan was born September 26, 1930 in Augusta, Arkansas.
Fred
was the eldest of 10 children born to the union of the late George Fred
and Ethel Eola (Jennings) McMillan.
Fred's
father worked for the Rock Island Railroad causing the family to move to
many towns
throughout
Arkansas during Fred's childhood.
In
1948, Fred enlisted in the US Army. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict
and Vietnam War. Fred served his country with great pride and dignity and
recieved many awards, medals, and commendations. Seargent First
Class
McMillan retired from active duty service in 1970.
On August 22, 1958 in Karlaruhe, Germany, Fred was united in marriage with Paulina Sradler. Fred and Paulina shared nearly 44 years of memories together.
From 1970 to 1992, Fred was a custodian for the Waynesville R-6 School District. He later worked for Pulaski COunty as a Community Service Coordinator.
Fred
was a charter member of the Westside Baptist Church. He enjoyed working
in the nursery and rocking the babies. He was also a member of the Waynesville
Masonic Lodge #375 A.F. & A.M. where he
served
as Secretary from 1983 to present. He also served as District Deputy Grand
Master. He belonged to the Scottish Rite Masonic Temple in Joplin , the
Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple in Springfield, the York Rite bodies in Lebanon
and Rolla (he also held the title of Knight of the York Cross of Honour),
and the Order of the Eastern Star, Hansen Chapter #22.
Fred's life was his church and the Masonic Lodge. He loved being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
Fred went home to be with his Lord the morning of June 16, 2002 at the General Leonard Wood Community Hospital at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, at the age of 71 years, 8 months, and 21 days.
Fred
leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Paulina; two
brothers, John and James Bowie McMillan; and five sisters, Leona "Edee"
Browning, Clarice McDowell, Eloise Cole, Audrey Young,and Rilla Salazar
all from out
of
state. He also leaves his brother in law Fredrick Sradler and several other
relatives and a host of special friends.
In
addition to his parents, Fred was also preceeded in death by two
brothers,George Thomas and Emmett Lee McMillan.
