Judith I
by Gustav Klimt, 1901

This is one of Klimt's many paintings of women who are part of mythology. This and Danae belong to that group, and include a liberal use of gold leaf, which we do not usually see on his landscapes or portraits of real women.

Judith is based on the myth of Judith and Holofernes.

To see a later painting of Klimt's, also based on the Judith and Holofernes myth (Judith II), as well as many more of his works, check the two links on the Art Online! page.
