Perfect in me a thankful heart,
Full of gratitude and worth;
That I may place great value in
My time upon this earth.
Though I may sometimes feel as if,
I've not accomplished much;
My mark's been left upon this world,
Through everything I touch.
I pray for needed guidance,
That I may use my time;
Reaching out in love to others,
And not grasping for what's mine.
A spirit of great tenderness,
Composed with deep compassion;
That I may still show kindness,
When greed becomes the fashion.
A heart that will not harden,
With bitterness and strife;
As time and circumstances place
Great burdens in my life.
And while I grow in wisdom,
Each day may I recall;
That I still have so much to learn,
I will never know it all.
Make me slow to anger,
Let me turn the other cheek;
When obstacles surround me,
Forgiveness will I seek.
And when my life is over,
May I hear as I depart;
"With tender lovingkindness,
She possessed a thankful heart."
