My Running Valentine

Gary Oak was having a harder time being a researcher than he had originally thought. It was never too hard for him to go out into the world and capture Pokémon, then train them up to be excellent fighters and friends. But this research business? It was always about waiting, waiting, waiting. Gary was going nuts waiting. Sighing dramatically, he fell into his swivel chair, frowning at his calendar. Why was today's date circled in red? Gary scowled and snatched up his desk calendar, his heart sinking to the pits of his stomach. It was February, the fourteenth. Valentine's Day.

No wonder his stupid female assistants were all twittering around the lab like twitterpated Pidgeys. No wonder the very air was permeated with the scent of chocolate and far too much cologne. No wonder he was feeling the lack of Ash more and more recently.

Weeks had passed since Gary had last seen his wayward boyfriend. The two had parted just outside Pallet Town, Gary heading home to get back to his research while Ash headed off for the closest port. Gary had felt more than the usual pang of losing his lover, he was jealous of the adventures he knew Ash would be having. A small part of him was scared Ash might come home one day to introduce a new lover, maybe fiancée, to his mother. It wasn't as if the two had come out to their families yet. Gary was still unsure about whether he wanted to let his grandfather know, or just wait until the old man passed on and never have to worry about it.

Tossing the calendar back onto his desk, Gary decided now was a good time to go home. He wasn't going to get any work done, and what work was there to do, anyway? Wait for more results on whatever they were currently testing? What was his latest project...oh, right. The probability of twins born from Pokémon eggs. What a pointless subject.

Standing, Gary looked about his lab for one of his techs. A dark haired boy, mid-teens, was typing furiously at his keyboard. Gary approached him.

"I'm heading home for the day. If anything interesting happens, run over to my house and let me know," Gary said, patting the boy on his shoulder. The teen jumped in his seat, as if he hadn't heard Gary speak just seconds before. Gary smirked. "Did you get that?"

"Watch the tests closely, inform you immediately of any scientifically important changes," The boy nodded. Gary patted his shoulder again and shrugged. Close enough.

As Gary approached his house, barely a hundred feet from his lab, he could make out a small pink rectangle taped to the knocker. Frowning, he walked to his door and tore the piece of paper off. He skimmed the short note with a hint of annoyance. There had been a tiny spark of hope it had been from Ash. That spark had been quickly smashed out when he read it was from his sister, May. She had gone off to visit their mother, who had moved to Viridian just last summer. Opening the door, Gary tossed the note onto his catch-all table and sighed. Feeling even more alone now, he crumpled onto a large cushion seat in his living room. As his hand stretched out to grab the remote control to the living room television, soft, jazzy music started playing from somewhere. Gary shot up onto his hands and knees, looking everywhere for the source of the music.

"Hm, Gary, that is such a lovely pose. Reminds me why I came back," A very familiar voice intoned from the staircase leading up to the bedrooms. Gary's gaze flashed over to see Ash Ketchum standing at the foot of the stairs in nothing but red silk boxers, a tube of lube in one hand. Gary scrambled onto his feet, annoyed at the blush creeping over his nose.

"Aren't you supposed to be somewhere around Cinnabar by now, Ashy?" Gary coughed. Ash threw Gary a smirk.

"On Valentine's Day? And what would I do there, besides pine for your lovely little ass. Come here," Ash extended his hand, grabbing Gary and urging him upstairs.

Gary could hardly recognize his own bedroom. His usual navy blue and pine green flannel bedspread was missing, replaced with red silk sheets and a big, fluffy white comforter. Red and pink rose petals were scattered over every available surface, except for his bedside table, which was instead covered in short, red candles. His lamp was also missing, apparently. A pokéball shaped stereo was the source of the soft jazz. Gary could only blink at the effort Ash put into this silly romantic holiday. He jumped when he felt Ash's bare arm wrap around his waist.

"I seriously thought you'd never come home. What in the world do you do all day?" Ash muttered, kissing down Gary's neck as he helped his lover shrug out of his lab coat. Gary only grunted, not caring to think back on his boring days as a Pokémon Researcher. What his aging grandfather ever saw in staying home when there was a whole world to explore just didn't make sense to him. He turned in Ash's embrace, peeling off his skintight black shirt and tossing it on the floor.

"Nothing as important as seeing you." Gary murmured against Ash's lips. The fingers of one of Ash's hands quickly unzipped Gary's pants while the other popped the lid on his lube. Gary quickly got the hint and kicked off his shoes, toed off his socks and stepped out of his pants. He wore a simpler pair of blue cotton boxers than Ash's red silk, but in his defense, he hadn't even remembered it was Valentine's. Ash barely noticed them before pushing Gary onto his bed and stripping him bare.

Gary needed no urging to spread his legs, allowing Ash complete access to his ass. Ash squeezed out a generous helping of lubricant onto his fingers. The scent of maraschino cherries invaded Gary's senses, eliciting a small, short lived giggle. Cherry flavored lube? How apropos.

Ash peppered kisses everywhere his lips could reach; Gary's knee, his ankle, his tummy. He took his time preparing Gary, knowing full well Gary would prefer his cock to his fingers, but it'd been so long since he was last with him that he really wanted to enjoy this. Gary's groan of impatience goaded Ash faster.

"Damn it, Ash, are you planning on taking me sometime today?" Gary heaved. Ash chuckled.

"Well, I guess I should, huh?" Ash smirked. Had Gary not been gripping the slippery silk sheets as hard as he was, he would have flipped Ash off. Instead, he bucked against Ash's hand. "Okay, okay, I get it, Gar." Ash removed his fingers and picked up the lube again. This time he coated his length in the cherry scented slick, grimacing a little at the slight cold. Using his slickened fingers to hold onto, and keep spread, Gary's thighs, Ash slowly pushed inside, his poor chilled cock quickly warming.

The two started slowly, but a rhythm began and quickened fast. Gary had missed Ash far more than he realized and being plowed by the one he loved was more than his sensitive body could handle. He gave a short strangled gasp before biting his lips shut to quiet his climactic shriek. Ash pushed in as far as he could possibly in their current position and came hard, breathing Gary's name. Both young men held off from moving, relishing in the feel of each other. Ash couldn't hold himself up for too much longer, the strain was a bit much, so he gently withdrew and gathered Gary in his arms.

"You didn't last very long. Missed me?" Ash asked, kissing the tip of Gary's ear. Gary grinned.

"I guess I have. I miss you from the moment you walk away until the moment you come back." Gary sighed. Ash noticed a nearly undetected sadness in that sigh. He frowned.

"Gar, what's wrong? Is it work?" Gary grimaced and tried to hide under Ash's arm. "Why do you bother with the researching? You don't like it, it's boring as hell compared to the life you're used to," Ash stated. Gary buried his face against Ash's chest.

"I know, but someone should follow in Grandpa's footsteps, and battling has lost its appeal. What else is there?" The brunette mumbled. Ash bucked his returning hardness against Gary's leg. Gary snapped his head up. Ash smirked down at him.

"Breeding?" Ash grinned goofily. Gary rolled his eyes. "Okay, seriously, Viridian still needs a gym leader. What about that?" Ash asked.

"You wouldn't be there. You'd still leave, and then you'd just have to get used to me being a minute man now because I get so worked up when you finally pay attention to me again. Are you willing to deal with that? Sex that barely lasts half an hour?" Gary wiggled his eyebrows. Ash laughed. "No, this is okay for now. I'll just wait until you get either so bored with traveling or too old to keep going that you'll settle down with me. Just me." Gary frowned. That pang of jealousy was coming back. Ash hugged Gary tightly and nodded.

"Okay, I promise. When I'm done traveling, I'll come back and settle down with just you." Ash whispered into Gary's hair. "Then you can stop being a dork, right? No more jobs you don't like. Promise?" Ash said, loosening his hug so he could look into Gary's eyes. For a moment, Gary didn't see Ash Ketchum, Pokémon Master, he saw Ash Ketchum, the boy he'd wanted since he moved to Pallet Town so many years ago. Gary nodded tersely, shutting his eyes and throwing himself back into a tight hug.

"Promise." Gary almost choked on the word. He knew it was unlikely Ash would ever stop roaming, but the promise of his eventual end of adventuring was enough for now. Ash smiled widely against the sweat slick brow of his lover, placing kisses along Gary's nose, cheeks and forehead.

"Happy Valentine's Day, Gar."

The morning after went just as Gary figured it would. Ash stayed long enough for more sex, a long shower, and some breakfast, but was out the door just before noon. It was sad watching him go, it was every time, but the promise from the day before lingered in Gary's mind. He smiled softly at the disappearing figure of his boyfriend.

Before sitting down to a lonely lunch, Gary noticed a small blue box sitting on his kitchen counter. Frowning, he picked it up and popped it open. Inside was a folded piece of pink paper and...a ring. A very simple silver band. Gary blinked and opened the note.

Gar, remember our promise. This should be enough to seal it. I love you, and I'll see you soon. ♥Ash

Gary swallowed hard and put the note down. A promise ring. Without another thought, Gary slipped the ring onto his left ring finger. He would never remember a better Valentine's Day for a long, long time.

The End.
