Less than three weeks after unveiling its video iPod, Apple Computer has sold 1 million videos that play on the portable device.
Top downloads from the company's iTunes online service include music videos from Michael Jackson and Kanye West, Pixar's "For the Birds," and episodes of ABC television shows "Lost" and "Desperate Housewives, "Apple said yesterday in a statement.
The sales demonstrate demand for the video service and dispel concern that people wouldn't want to watch programs on the iPod's 2.5-inch color screen.
"Selling 1 million videos in less than 20 days strongly suggests there is a market for legal downloads, "Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, said in a statement. "Our next challenge is to broaden our content offerings."
The videos, priced at $1.99 each, can also be played on computers running iTunes software. Apple debuted the video iPod, which costs as much as $399, on Oct. 12.
While sales continue to sore, Michael Jackson remains the number one video download with the complete Thriller video.
