Jackson Summoned For Jury Duty
Mood:  surprised
Topic: Main News
SANTA BARBARA, California (AP) -- Authorities want Michael Jackson back in court -- this time as a juror.

Jackson received a jury summons at his Neverland Valley Ranch, four months after he was acquitted of child molestation charges.

"It's just one of those ironies of life that he'd be called as a juror," said Laurie Levenson, a professor at Loyola School of Law who monitored Jackson's trial.

It's unlikely that Jackson will show up for jury selection. His lawyers have filed paperwork for a deferment based on the fact that he now lives in Bahrain.

"He is permanently living outside of the United States," Thomas Mesereau, who defended Jackson against the child molestation charges, said Wednesday.

Jury Commissioner Gary Blair said Jackson likely will be excused from serving.

"All he has to do is show he has legal residency somewhere else and he'll be exempted," Blair said.

Blair said he summoned Ronald Reagan when he was president but granted him a deferment until he was out of office.

Actress Bo Derek, also a local resident, received at least two jury summonses and served on one panel without incident.

There's Something About. . . Michael Jackson
Mood:  happy
Topic: Main News
Just a few short months ago; Michael Jackson faced what many saw as the ruination of his life and his career. Now, he is out in public in London and ready to produce a new song. Fans are keeping watch 24 – 7 at the Dorchester, proving that Michael’s fans are as devoted as ever!

Crowds of twenty and thirty year olds, many with their children in tow, chant Michael’s name, wave banners and hope for a glimpse of him. Finally, Michael appears at the window of his suite and waves. Moments later, a bulk delivery of pizza arrives . . . ordered by Michael for the fans.

Michael, accompanied by Prince, Paris and Blanket have been touring the London sights. At Madame Tussaud’s, the children were ushered inside by Michael and other care – givers, their privacy protected by scarves. They stayed for about an hour, according to an insider. (A short tour, to be sure, but perfect time for someone touring with youngsters!) Of course, fans somehow get the news and arrive in time to see Michael and children exit the van!

The fun repeats when Michael and his children attend a matinee of “Billy Elliot” at the Victoria Palace theatre. Unfortunately, the eager crowd knocks Michael to the ground. The fun continues inside and outside Harrods when Michael and his children arrive. There, he bought dozens of documentaries including the BBC’s award – winning series, “Walking With Dinosaurs.”

At Harrods, he met with the owner, Mohamed Fayed, and shopped in private for two hours. According to sources, Michael was interested in the plasma screen televisions.

As goes Michael, so go his fans! Once more he was besieged by fans at a studio in Chiswick where he is supposedly to have begun work on the charity song, “From The Bottom Of My Heart.” The song is being made by 2SeasRecords, a label that is co- owned by brother Jermaine and Bahrain’s Prince Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

Fans at a studio in Chiswick also besieged Jackson where he is said to have begun work on the charity song From The Bottom Of My Heart. It is being made by 2SeasRecords, a label co-owned by his brother Jermaine and Bahrain's Prince Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

Ex-Busted Star James Bourne spent the weekend with Michael Jackson - at the King of Pop’s request.

Jacko was in the country to work on his Hurricane Katrina charity single and was staying at London’s Dorchester Hotel.

Bourne was reportedly invited as a guest of Jacko’s to spend Friday and Saturday night at the hotel.

James who is now in a new band, Son of Dork, stayed over with his dancer pal Ashley Moore, who performed with Jacko at the infamous Brit Awards in 1996.

As always, a totally authentic source told The Sun: “Now James has been invited to Neverland.”

Michael Jackson Sues Concert Promoter
Mood:  energetic
Topic: Main News
2 hours, 36 minutes ago

Michael Jackson filed a lawsuit Monday against a concert promoter to prevent arbitration over a disputed 1999 concert contract.

Jackson and his company, MJ Company, sued concert promoter Marcel Avram and his German-based company for breach of contract, according to court papers. The lawsuit also seeks a preliminary injunction to prevent Avram from proceeding with arbitration.

Jackson in November 2002 testified in a $21 million lawsuit brought against him by Avram, who accused the entertainer of backing out of two concerts on New Year's Eve 1999. A Santa Barbara County jury in March 2003 ruled that Jackson must pay Avram $5.3 million.

Both parties reached a settlement agreement in 2003 that resolved existing and future claims related to the concerts, court papers said. Disputes regarding the settlement were to be resolved in Superior Court as a part of the settlement agreement, but Avram has moved forward with arbitration, according to the lawsuit.

An arbitration hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 24.

Jackson is seeking an injunction to prevent any alternative forms of dispute resolution. Jackson attorney Michael Bruce Abelson did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment Monday night after business hours.

Jackson Schemers Have Legal Problems of Their Own ? MB#284
Mood:  loud
Topic: Main News
September 25 2005 ? The months after Michael Jackson?s acquittal have brought many interesting developments concerning those who schemed against him, tried to benefit career-wise from his legal trouble, or sought to falsely imprison him around this past trial.

People including Tom Sneddon, the flip-flopping Ray Hultman, former ?Jackson family friend? Stacy Brown, Janet Arvizo, Chris Carter, Ron Zonen and the XtraJet owners have all had legal problems of their own. And tabloid Diane Dimond, apparently hired specifically for the Jackson story, has been driven from Court TV and had to settle a lawsuit based on a harassment allegation she started.

All of the aforementioned people seemed to have plotted, schemed and/or taken advantage of their positions for the betterment of their own bank accounts and public notoriety.

Some have brought situations on themselves that are mildly amusing given that they all participated, in their own ways, in attempts to either profit from Jackson or tried to convict Jackson.

Sneddon is caught up in a $10 million prosecutorial misconduct lawsuit. Carter was allegedly involved in a robbery where he was caught on tape. The XtraJet owners are in major trouble with the feds. Arvizo?s in trouble with Los Angeles County. Brown?s caught up in a plagiarism allegation from the flip-flopping Ray Hultman. And Zonen has apparently broken the law in a non-Jackson related case.

__Sneddon and his misconduct__

Sneddon could be in a world of trouble related to a $10 million federal lawsuit filed against him and his office by attorney Gary Dunlap. Dunlap was prosecuted by Sneddon and was acquitted on all felony charges.

Dunlap and his attorneys documented incidences involving prosecutorial misconduct on the part of Sneddon and the Santa Barbara D.A.?s office in his case both before and during his trial.

He is suing the Santa Barbara DA?s office for engaging in outrageous misconduct, including ?conspiracy, illegal taping, deceiving a court? and ?illegally assisting the defense of a case? (see Lawyers press for investigation of DA, staff ). They, according to Dunlap, violated ?several felony and misdemeanor statutes?.

Sneddon was actually deposed in relation to the Dunlap lawsuit on June 16 2005 ? just days after a humiliating defeat in the Jackson trial. Assistant DA Christie Stanley was ?interviewed? July 14 2005 and Deputy DA Jerry McBeth was scheduled to be deposed August 19 2005 (see Dunlap lawsuit continues with depositions of top prosecutors).

Months before Sneddon?s deposition, Dunlap?s attorneys sent letters to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles, the California Attorney General's Office, the California State Bar, and the Santa Barbara County Counsel and grand jury asking them to investigate Sneddon?s office.

A report from the Santa Maria Times dated August 13 2005 titled ?Dunlap lawsuit continues with depositions of top prosecutors? quotes Dunlap. From the report: Dunlap maintains that prosecutors went to extraordinary and unconstitutional lengths to gather evidence against him.

"An injustice was done and the district attorney's office refuses to acknowledge, investigate, or refer it for investigation because their employees were involved in committing it," Dunlap said.

A Santa Maria jury on June 4, 2003 acquitted Dunlap of six felony counts, including suborning perjury, witness intimidation, filing false documents and preparing false documents.
(see Dunlap lawsuit continues with depositions of top prosecutors)

In an explosive radio interview given by Dunlap Jan 2004, he let loose much information concerning how the D.A.?s office prosecutes people and how close the relationship really is between the DA?s office and the Santa Barbara sheriff?s department.

He says that they do engage in vindictive prosecutions. Of his specific experience, Dunlap told the radio host: They got a complaint, which they had to investigate. However, rather than looking at that complaint and doing a straightforward and honest investigation, they saw it as an opportunity to prosecute me. And what they did, is they tried to add legitimacy to an illegitimate charge.
(see Dunlap radio interview)

Sounds awfully familiar, doesn?t it?

Dunlap says in one instance, the DA?s office went to talk privately with the judge in a case he (Dunlap) was trying. This is ?against the law and in violation of the rules of professional conduct? (see Dunlap radio interview).

They told this female judge that they were investigating Dunlap for criminal activities and apparently tried to get Dunlap?s client released from custody.

But this judge had already made her decision and the DA?s office tried to get her to illegally change it. Once a judge makes a decision, he/she loses jurisdiction of the case. She could have gotten into trouble herself had she done what the DA?s office wanted.

Who was that female judge? Judge Diana Hall. Her name should be familiar to most regular readers at MJEOL because Hall was then prosecuted by this same DA?s office in an unrelated charge. A vindictive prosecution? Maybe.

In her first battle with Sneddon?s office, she was only convicted of a misdemeanor --- which doesn?t remove her from her position as a judge.

Hall is currently in her second battle with this DA?s office. Only this time, the DA?s office had to be kicked off the prosecution of her case because of bias.

You see, this second battle seemed to mysteriously materialize after Sneddon and company found out that she would be testifying FOR Gary Dunlap in that $10 million lawsuit against Sneddon?s DA?s office.

The Attorney General has taken over the prosecution of Hall?s case in this 2nd battle initiated by Sneddon?s office.

As it turns out, there may be even more of a reason for these agencies to investigate Sneddon?s office considering how prosecutor Ron Zonen has recently admitted to breaking the law in an unrelated case. More on this later.

__Opportunistic juror turns on opportunistic publisher__

We are all now familiar with the flip-flopping juror Ray Hultman. He signed a book deal with Larry Garrison.

In post trial interviews, he claimed he didn?t believe the accuser, Gavin Arvizo. When that book deal with Garrison was signed, he suddenly flip-flopped ? along with Elenor Cook ? to level all sorts of unfounded allegations against their fellow jurors. The only media personality to give them a platform was Rita ?NOI? Cosby.

Hultman is currently suing Garrison to get out of that book deal. He claims he was unsophisticated and was taken advantage of by Garrison. Yeah, right.

He alleges in court papers that he was so ?impressed and dazzled? by Garrison and ?would trust him so completely? that he and his wife ?would believe virtually anything he said or promoted to them,? (see Jackson juror now wants out of book deal).

Hultman also made allegations against Stacy ?Mouth Almight? Brown. He alleges Brown ? who was supposed to write the book at first ? plagiarized garbage?.uh, I mean? plagiarized ?material? from a defamatory Vanity Fair article written by ?Wacko Orth? (Maureen Orth).

He is suing both Garrison and Brown for ruining his reputation (HA!) and hopes to collect monetary damages from his suit.

__Welfare fraud charges for Arvizo__

Janet Arvizo has been charged with defrauding the welfare system in Los Angeles County. She had received over a hundred thousand dollars from a JC Penney settlement -- as well as receiving money from other celebrities ? all while claiming to be destitute.

She renewed her welfare application repeatedly and never mentioned the extra money she was getting from other sources. She?s now charged with 5 felony counts of perjury and fraud, and could face prison time. Arvizo actually had the gall to plead not guilty.

As reported in MJEOL Bullet #282, the Los Angeles County District Attorney?s Bureau of Fraud and Corruption Prosecution filed felony charges August 23 saying that the felonious fraud hid hundreds of thousands of dollars from the welfare system while claiming she was indigent.

When the news broke of Arvizo?s charges, there wasn?t even half the amount of attention the broadcast media devoted to Jackson when police invaded his Neverland Ranch looking for evidence which never existed.

During the 2005 trial, Jackson?s defense team presented uncontested evidence that Arvizo committed fraud to receive almost $19,000 in welfare and proof that she was cashing these checks through Jay Jackson?s bank account, which some say appears to be money laundering.

In his opening argument, current Santa Barbara D.A. Tom Sneddon himself said Arvizo would admit she had committed welfare fraud. No such thing occurred. Arvizo refused to take responsibility and only testified because Judge Melville allowed her to plead the 5th Amendment concerning questions involving her welfare fraud.

Arvizo is due back in court October 28 2005 to answer to the 5 felony charges.

__Crooked is as crooked does?__

Prosecutor Ron Zonen, one of Sneddon?s minions, is also in boiling water with the law concerning the Jesse James Hollywood murder case. Zonen is one of the prosecutors whose disgustingly ridiculous characterizations of Jackson were lapped up and distributed by the media.

According to reports, Zonen broke the law; committing a misdemeanor by sharing confidential information about Hollywood with the creators of a movie about Hollywood. The next scheduled hearing about Zonen?s misconduct is Nov. 1 2005.

The attorney representing Hollywood called Zonen?s actions ?unprecedented misconduct?. More from an article titled ?Defense blasts links between Santa Barbara prosecutor, filmmaker? dated September 21 2005: Hollywood's attorney, James Blatt, called Zonen's work with filmmaker Nick Cassavetes "unprecedented misconduct" in a motion filed last week.

He said the movie reflects prosecutors' version of events and depicts his client as "extremely manipulative, vicious, selfish and without any redeeming character traits whatsoever."
(see Defense blasts link between Santa Barbara prosecutor, filmmaker)

It?s important to note that prosecutors have a special duty to ethical conduct. Anything which falls under the umbrella of committing a crime -- Zonen?s misdemeanor conduct ? is cause for concern.

Some are already wondering what made Zonen think he was in the position to be handing over information of this sort with any movie creator in the first place, especially given the fact that Hollywood hasn?t yet been convicted.

Blatt also said that Zonen told a researcher for Nick Cassavetes that he (Zonen) wanted the Hollywood case to be his legacy. From a Santa Barbara News Press article dated September 21 2005 titled ?Hollywood prosecutor admits to misdemeanor?: In a motion filed last week, Mr. Blatt called the cooperation between Mr. Zonen and the filmmaker, Nick Cassavetes, "unprecedented misconduct."

Mr. Blatt said Mr. Zonen told Mr. Cassavetes' researcher that the case against Mr. Hollywood and his four co-defendants would be his "legacy" and that he planned to write a book.
(see Hollywood prosecutor admits to misdemeanor)

In response to that particular point, the prosecution gave a lame explanation, saying that talking about writing a book and actually writing one are two different things.

Well, of course they are two different things. But you can?t write a book without planning to write one first. And, again, what the hell is he doing talking to the creator of a movie about writing a book? Talking about this being his ?legacy?? Talking about this case at all??

This is the kind of conduct, or misconduct, some insiders say these prosecutors are use to committing. Jackson?s ?case? wasn?t the first time they had been accused of misconduct, and it certainly looks like it wasn?t the last time either.

__?Jack in the Box? Carter__

Ex-bodyguard Chris Carter is also in deep, deep trouble with the law. He was snatched up so early by law enforcement that he didn?t even get a chance to testiLIE in Jackson?s trial.

Carter is currently awaiting trial for committing a number of robberies in the Las Vegas area.

According to an Associated Press (AP) article titled ?Former Jackson bodyguard pleads not guilty to Vegas robbery spree? dated March 30 2005, Carter himself is an ex-felon. From that report: Carter is accused of robbing several businesses, including a toy store in January. He also is being investigated for a series of bank robberies, according to Deputy Clark County District Attorney Susan Krisko, who argued against reducing his bail.

Krisko told the judge that Carter has confessed to the robberies and a "conviction is likely."

?

If forced to testify in California, Carter will take the Fifth Amendment, his lawyer Lloyd Baker said outside court.

"Saying anything (there) could affect his case here," Baker said.

?Baker argued that being compelled to testify in Jackson's case would affect Carter's ability to prepare for his own trial.
(see Former Jackson bodyguard pleads not guilty to Vegas robbery spree)

Carter was, according to the prosecution in Jackson?s trial, suppose to claim that Gavin Arvizo told him Jackson said it was okay to drink wine?or some nonsense like that.

Besides Carter?s allegations being suspect, the allegation itself is beyond weak to begin with. It doesn?t make any different what Gavin Arvizo told Carter; it doesn?t make what Arvizo said true.

But there may be an even deeper reason for Carter not testifying. He may have been lying about Jackson completely.

Santa Barbara prosecutors fought to get Carter to be able to testify and to plead the 5th Amendment when asked about his criminal conduct in Las Vegas; like they allowed Janet Arvizo to testify without answering questions about her welfare fraud.

They were going to make Carter testify in the Jackson trial, but something happened. When he got pinched by Las Vegas authorities for committing robbery and kidnapping, he may have told Santa Barbara prosecutors where to stick it when asked to testify against Jackson.

Why Carter was dropped from the prosecution?s witness list has been cause for speculation since it happened. Did Carter tell prosecutors that he lied about Jackson, causing them to scrap plans to force him to testify? Who knows.

__Dumb and Dumber__

When Jackson flew to Santa Barbara County to answer the arrest warrant Sneddon obtained back in November 2003, the private jet he flew on was bugged with recording equipment.

As of now, there is no allegation that Sneddon?s office was involved in the bugging of that flight??that we know of.

Now, two men have been indicted on federal charges of recording Jackson and then-attorney Mark Geragos on that flight. According to an AP report titled ?Two indicted in Jackson recording case? dated September 22 2005, the pair used two digital camcorders and remote microphones to break the law.

Jeffrey Borer and Arvel Jett Reeves are charged with ?conspiracy, endeavoring to intercept oral communication and witness tampering in an alleged scheme between Nov. 19 2003 and Nov. 21 2003? (see Two Indicted in Jackson Recording Case).

Borer was the owner of XtraJet and, according to unconfirmed sources, may have had a connection to Marc Schaffel. Reeves owned a maintenance company, Executive Aviation Logistics, which serviced XtraJet?s fleet of jets.

After they taped Jackson?s plane ride, they shopped the tape around to various networks. Back during when this story first broke, some networks confirmed they had been offered the tape for sale.

Both Geragos and Jackson sued XtraJet in federal court. According to the AP, XtraJet officials gave the tape to the FBI and claimed not to know who had bugged the plane. More from that report: According to the indictment, Reeves purchased the video and audio equipment from three electronics stores in San Bernardino County and, with another suspect, secretly installed the equipment in a concealed part of the airplane's cabin.

The microphones were allegedly installed between passenger seat cushions.

Borer, who instructed Reeves to obtain and install the equipment, later contacted news companies and offered to sell the recordings, the indictment said.
(see Two Indicted in Jackson Recording Case)

The witness tampering charge involves Reeves telling a suspect to lie to the FBI about why the recording equipment was on the private jet. According to reports, Reeves told an ?unindicted co-conspirator? to tell FBI officials that the plane was bugged in order to catch a thief.

Apparently Reeves didn?t think this lie through. I guess the FBI was supposed to believe that the company wanted to catch a thief on the day Jackson surrendered to Santa Barbara authorities.

Further, how in hell would he have explained the fact that Borer was trying to broker deals for the sale of that tape? Their plan and the cover-up was seemingly destined to fail.

If you remember, prosecutors in the Jackson trial called a witness to the stand, Cynthia Montgomery, who is also being investigated in relation to the XtraJet set up. She was supposed to speak to the ridiculous conspiracy charges leveled by the prosecution and the Arvizos.

As he did with Janet Arvizo, Judge Melville allowed Montgomery to testify without answering questions about her alleged involvement in illegal activity involving XtraJet. She was allowed to plead the 5th to questions about her FBI investigation, and was given immunity by Sneddon.

There were also reports that Jackson wanted to use another private jet company to take him and his lawyer to Santa Barbara on that day, but Montgomery ? in charge of booking the flight ? insisted that he use XtraJet for a reason unknown at the time. I think we now know the reason.

Montgomery, by the way, was reportedly also a friend of Marc Schaffel?s. Small world, isn?t it?

On the stand Montgomery claimed Schaffel ordered her to book ?one-way tickets? to Brazil for the members of the Arvizo family. This was one of the Arvizo allegations.

One thing she apparently couldn?t explain was why Schaffel would have asked her to book one-way tickets to Brazil when ? according to reports -- he spends a lot of time in Brazil. International law prevents anyone from booking one-way tickets to Brazil anyway.

Not to mention that, under cross-examination, Mesereau established that there were no tickets to Brazil. They, in fact, never existed. None were purchased by Jackson or Schaffel for that matter. And she had never spoken to Jackson about booking tickets to Brazil (see April 26 2005 Trial Update #1.5 ).

Did I mention that Montgomery is suing Jackson? She?s another prosecution witness who had a huge motive to try to shade her testimony in the prosecution?s favor. At the time of her testimony, Jackson and Geragos were also suing her reportedly for invasion of privacy involving the XtraJet taping.

Everything seems to come full circle, doesn?t it? There is no word yet on whether Montgomery dropped a dime on Borer and Reeves, or if she?s still under investigation for her part.

__Diane Dimond Gets Sued, then Gets Booted__

Then there?s tabloid reporter Diane Dimond. I don?t think she has seen the full brunt of her karma just yet, but she and her ?investigative unit? was seemingly booted from Court TV. As reported in a special two-part MJEOL Bullet #283, Court TV ?dismantled Diane Dimond?s investigative unit.?

As I said then, the unbelievably biased and pro-prosecution slant Dimond gave to her reporting caused scores of people to become alarmed. And more, still, to be put-off by Court TV altogether. She seemed to have been hired solely for the Jackson story.

And, I speculate since it didn?t work out like some hoped it would, they could no longer spare the expense of her Jackson-baggage either (see Part 1 | Part 2).

Dimond accused Jackson fan B.J. Hickman of harassing her and obtained a restaining order to keep Hickman from her. She wanted it to be 100ft, but the judge ordered 20ft.

Hickman then sued Dimond for his legal fees to fight against her harassment allegation. He says he was not harassing her at all, and was exercising his free speech.

Dimond ended up settling the lawsuit against Hickman, to which Hickman?s attorney says he is very satisfied with the settlement terms. It was a fight she started when an allegation. Could it be that she didn?t think he would defend himself?

All of these people in some way or another profited, schemed, plotted or benefited career-wise from Jackson?s legal troubles. And all currently find or found themselves in legal entanglements of their own.

Mr. Joseph Jackson Visits Evacuees
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Main News
09-21-2005

Following the devastation left in the wake of hurricane Katrina, Mr. Joseph Jackson, the patriarch of the Jackson family, felt moved to travel to the affected areas to help the victims in whatever way he could. Through a flurry of action between Mr. Jacksona?™s team and the Michael Jackson Fan Cluba?™s president, Deborah Dannelly, a trip was planned to an area of Texas where evacuees were brought to safety from the flood ravages of Louisiana.

The Michael Jackson Fan Club had teamed up with longa?”time friend and associate, Michael Bradle, who had incorporated the American Response Team. The ART was designed to be a a?œpeoplea?”toa?”people,a? grass roots organization capable of quick, effective action. Through the collaboration, Mike was able to use funds and goods collected via the MJFC and other contributors to build water filtration systems, feed and provide much needed supplies directly to victims quickly following the disaster. The news that Mr. Jackson wanted to come and visit with the victims was more than welcome!

Joseph Jackson arrived at the airport on Monday evening to a barrage of press and media attention. He was warmly greeted by Deborah Dannelly, president of the Michael Jackson Fan Club and Mike Bradle of ART. Many travelers passing through the airport recognized the patriarch of the Jackson family and stopped to speak to him and take photographs. Many seemed truly amazed that it was actually Joseph Jackson arriving in Corpus Christi, Texas!

Early Tuesday morning, Mike and Deb collected Mr. Jackson and his security guard, Charles Coupe and drove to the Memorial Coliseum. The crowd of a few hundred evacuees who have made the Coliseum their temporary living quarters had been eagerly awaiting Mr. Jacksona?™s arrival. When Mr. Jackson arrived, they pressed forward to see him, causing the single police officer to call for backa?”up!

Mr. Jackson assisted the MJFC and ART in supplying the food that was delivered and served for both this meal at the Coliseum and the one following. Around 11:30, Red Cross volunteers escorted Mr. Jackson to the kitchen to wash his hands and don plastic gloves and an apron. Mr. Jackson enjoyed serving almost 100 people before finally stopping.

More important than the feeding of a meal was the attention that Mr. Jackson gave each individual. He not only signed autographs and posed for pictures. He listened to their stories; stories that have been repeated to others and relived in the minds of the victims again and again with the hope that maybe if ita?™s repeated enough, the pain will lessen or make the story less horrific. Mr. Jackson showed true compassion, graciousness and understanding as he walked around the facility with the people who had lost so much, seeing where they sleep now, how they live now, how they cope.

The group left the Coliseum around 2:00 p.m. and traveled to the smaller group of evacuees located at the Annaville Baptist Church. Although both the meal served at the Coliseum and at the church were purchased through a group called a?œHelping Hands,a? the lunch at the church was physically served by a restaurant called a?œJacka?™s Dinner Bella? located in Corpus.

Mr. Jackson sat down to share a three course meal with the evacuees that included salad, Salisbury steak with greens, potatoes and peach cobbler with ice cream. Again, Mr. Jackson spoke with the victims with an attitude of great care, concern and respect.

During the dinner, an announcement was made. The group was, once again, to face another evacuation, this time fleeing the onslaught of hurricane Rita. Tragically, this new threat was gathering in ferocity and heading for this place of refuge. This announcement that they would once again face displacement seemed unbelievable and brought a new wave of sadness.

Perhaps it was memories of how it was for his family long ago; of what it is like to struggle to care for a large family on minimal salary through not so good times, that helps to comfort and help those who have little more than the clothes on their backs and the spark of life. It was very plain that Mr. Jackson brought joy and comfort as well as sustenance with his visits. And the children, especially, loved him! His dark eyes twinkled when he spoke with them with a slow, grandfatherly way.

Later that evening, Mr. Jackson joined Rita Cosby for a live MSNBC telephone interview. The interview was to be carried over satellite, but because of problems with the weather, the satellite was not working properly. Ms. Cosby remained focused on Mr. Jacksona?™s reasons for coming to Corpus; that he cares about the victims and felt urged to visit to lend them support and comfort. Of course, she also asked about the single that Michael is recording. Mr. Jackson answered that Michael is making a single in Bahrain and that he, himself, is doing what he can over here to help. The interview lasted about ten minutes.

Before retiring for the evening, Mr. Jackson stopped by at Deborah Dannelly's home to visit with her family. He stayed for a short while before returning to his hotel.

Deborah took Mr. Jackson to the airport on Wednesday morning for his return home.

The MJFC and ART wants to thank Mr. Jackson once again for his efforts on the behalf of the evacuees. We thoroughly enjoyed hosting this visit and look forward to meeting again in happier circumstances.

Men indicted with trying to tape Michael Jackson conversation
Mood:  a-ok
Topic: Main News

7:55 p.m. September 21, 2005

LOS ANGELES – Two men were indicted Wednesday on federal charges alleging they conspired to illegally record Michael Jackson's conversation with his former attorney while the pop star jetted to his arrest in Santa Barbara in 2003.

Jeffrey Borer, owner of XtraJet charter aircraft services, was charged with with conspiring with Arvel Jett Reeves to tape the conversation. Reeves, who owned the company that serviced and maintained XtraJet's planes, faces an additional charge of witness tampering.

The pair reportedly offered to sell the videotape to several media organizations before Jackson obtained a restraining order against the company preventing it from distributing the video.

The tape purportedly recorded Jackson and lawyer Mark Geragos during a November 2003 flight from Las Vegas to Santa Barbara where the pop star was supposed to surrender for arrest on child molestation charges.

Borer plans to plead not guilty at an arraignment that is likely to take place early next week, said Borer's attorney, Stanley Stone.

"There was no audio on the tape, so the conversation was never taped," Stone said. "There were no microphones. There was no wrongdoing."

Reeve's attorney could not be reached.

If found guilty, Borer's two charges could result in up to 10 years imprisonment, while Reeves' three charges mean he faces a maximum of 20 years.

The indictment alleges Reeves tried to convince an "unindicted co-conspirator" to tell FBI agents that the video cameras were installed the day before Jackson's flight to try and catch someone suspected of stealing alcohol from the plane.

"This case is about personal privacy," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew.

Jackson speaks out for first time since trial

Singer says ordeal ‘the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life’

The Associated Press
Updated: 1:10 a.m. ET Sept. 18, 2005

LOS ANGELES - In his first talk with a reporter since the end of his criminal trial, pop superstar Michael Jackson said Saturday he is “moving full speed ahead” on plans to record a song for the benefit of Hurricane Katrina victims and feels that his creative juices are flowing again.

In a telephone call to The Associated Press, Jackson said the trial was “the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life” and that he and his children were still in Bahrain “resting and recovering” from the ordeal.

Jackson said he has been at work on the charity song, tentatively titled, “From the Bottom of My Heart.”

“I’m constantly working on it,” he said.

Also on the line was Raymone K. Bain, Jackson’s spokeswoman. She said the call would not be a full-fledged interview, and that Jackson just wanted to make contact to express his thanks for what he said was the AP’s fair coverage of his trial.

Jackson has been staying in Bahrain as the guest of Prince Abdulla, the son of the king of Bahrain. Of his friend Prince Abdulla, he said, “He’s the very best, amazing, so kind.”
Asked about his health, Jackson said, “I’m feeling good.” The singer had said during his trial that he was plagued by back problems.

Jackson was acquitted of child molestation in June after a five-month trial in Santa Maria, Calif. He has not appeared in public since and has spent much of his time in Bahrain.
Jackson wants the charity anthem to follow the success of the 1984 worldwide hit “We Are the World,” which he co-wrote to benefit African starvation victims. Bain has said many artists have agreed to join the project, but the lineup hasn’t been finalized.

Bain says eight performers so far have agreed to join in the song, including James Brown, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, Lenny Kravitz, R. Kelly, Snoop Dogg and Ciara.
But representatives for some of the artists said it was premature to say their clients were committed to the project.

Representatives for Snoop Dogg said he would take part. But Jay-Z’s publicist, Jana Fleishman, said the rapper had “been approached, but Jay told me directly he is not yet confirmed to be on that song.” Several other publicists said their clients were in talks and had yet to confirm.

Bain, however, insisted during a telephone interview Wednesday that Jackson had personally contacted all the artists himself. She said Jackson will record the tune on 2 Seas Records, the label owned by Sheik Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, son of the king of Bahrain. Jackson, who was acquitted after a grueling child molestation trial four months ago, has been a guest of Sheik Abdulla for the past several weeks.

To confirm her account, Bain handed the phone to Sheik Abdulla, who said that he and Jackson had had talked to each artist personally. “He made every single call himself,” the sheik said.

Following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Jackson tried unsuccessfully to put together a benefit song called “What More Can I Give.”

For now, Bain said, the Katrina relief song is “a work in progress,” with a time, date and place of recording yet to be scheduled.

Mood:  happy
Topic: Main News
Mr. Joseph Jackson, patriarch of the Jackson family, will be visiting evacuees who have been relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas. He will arrive on September 19 and depart on September 21.

Mr. Jackson, himself familiar with the hardships faced by attempting to support a young family during difficult times, was especially moved by the situation faced by families displaced by hurricane Katrina. Because The Michael Jackson Fan Club is based in Corpus Christi, Texas, and this organization is experienced in hosting large events, Mr. Jackson chose to visit this particular group.

The Michael Jackson Fan Club and Mike Bradle of the American Response Team will be hosting Mr. Jackson's visit, beginning with his arrival at the Corpus Christi airport at 6:23 p.m. on September 19.

Mr. Jackson will be supplying lunch and will meet with the evacuees at the Memorial Coliseum at noon, September 20.

At 6:00pm that evening, a catered 3 course dinner will be provided to the evacuees at the Annaville Baptist Church. Mr. Jackson will have the opportunity to share in this communal meal and speak with them on a more personal level.

Jacko seen in lycra
Mood:  blue
Topic: Truth Or Fiction
Thursday September 15, 2005 10:47 AM)

Michael Jackson is reported to have emerged from hiding with an unusual appearance at a water park in Dubai, wearing a white lycra body stocking.

The pop superstar, who has only been seen once in the public eye once since his acquittal on all counts of child molestation, apparently rented out the entire Wild Wadi centre.

Giving his family and friends a free run of the park, Jackson is reported to have emerged in the lycra suit, which exposed just his nose and eyes.

"He looked even stranger than usual. His body is very skinny and lycra does him no favours," an eye-witness told a UK newspaper.

Jackson is understood to have been living in Bahrain since being cleared at his Santa Maria trial in June.

According to reports, he will soon return to the world of pop with the charity record "From The Bottom Of My Heart", which is set to feature stars such as Jay-Z and Mariah Carey and will raise funds for those affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Jackson recently explained: "I will be reaching out to others within the music industry, to join me in helping to bring relief and hope to these resilient people who have lost everything."

Jackson Juror Sues to Get Out of Book Deal
Mood:  bright

By Associated Press

September 9, 2005, 9:09 PM EDT

SANTA MARIA, Calif. -- A juror in the Michael Jackson case who said last month he believed the pop star was guilty of molesting his 15-year-old accuser has filed a lawsuit to get out of a book publishing contract.

Ray Hultman claims he was misled into signing a book deal with publisher Larry Garrison, owner of SilverCreek Entertainment.

Garrison said Friday he was unaware of the lawsuit, filed Wednesday in Santa Maria Superior Court. "As far as I know I'm doing a book with him on the Jackson trial," he said.

Hultman, 62, wants out of the contract and is seeking unspecified damages for mental and emotional stress. He claims he was shocked by media reports last month that his book proposal contained material plagiarized from a Vanity Fair magazine article, and says that has damaged his reputation.

Also named in the lawsuit are his agent, Bill Gladstone, and author Stacy Brown. A contract attached to the lawsuit said Brown was to help write the book.

Brown called the lawsuit "laughable" and said he never agreed to co-author Hultman's book. He also denied the plagiarism allegations.

A message left for Gladstone was not immediately returned Friday.

James Nichols, Hultman's lawyer, said he has no idea how anything plagiarized got into the book.

"All I know is that Ray Hultman didn't write it. He just wants get on with his life," Nichols said.

Hultman has said he regretted finding Jackson not guilty in the June verdict. He and juror Eleanor Cook said on MSNBC last month that they went along with the other panelists because the jury foreman threatened to have them removed.

Washington, D.C. - In response to the widespread devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina, Recording Superstar Michael Jackson has been moved to pen a song, with the working title, “From the Bottom of My Heart.”

Mum of Jackson's accuser pleads innocent to fraud
Mood:  irritated
Topic: Main News

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The mother of the teenage boy who accused pop star Michael Jackson of sex abuse pleaded innocent on Tuesday to welfare fraud and perjury charges.

The 37-year-old woman, accompanied by a defence attorney, entered her plea one day earlier than scheduled, apparently to avoid an expected crush of reporters.

Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner James Bianco released the mother of four -- who was called a con artist and welfare cheat by Jackson's attorneys at his child molestation trial -- with no bail requirement and ordered her to return for a status hearing on October 28.

Her attorney, Patricia Hattersley, could not immediately be reached for comment after the arraignment.

The charges stem from information the woman provided to welfare officials and not her testimony at the Jackson trial, which ended when a jury cleared the 47-year-old entertainer in June.

Prosecutors say the woman, whose name has been withheld by most U.S. news organisations to protect her son's identity, defrauded the welfare system of some $18,000. She could face more than five years in prison if convicted.

She was called to the witness stand in the Jackson case by Santa Barbara County District Attorney Tom Sneddon but refused to testify about her finances or welfare applications on the grounds that doing so could incriminate her.

According to court documents the investigation was prompted by a tip from a private investigator in February 2005, after jury selection began in the Jackson trial.

Topic: Main News
I would like to give all of you heartfelt thanks for your continued voices of encouragement and for your amazing support of Michael during the trying days that now, thankfully, lie behind us. Thank you so very much!

It has meant a great deal to me, to Michael and to our whole family. It is truly wonderful to have such amazing and loyal fans!

This is a very big victory for Michael and we are all very proud that he has been completely and totally vindicated in court, as we were certain he would be.

I am pleased to tell you that he is finally getting some rest and is regaining his appetite as well.

The end of the trial and the 'not guilty' verdicts on all counts, clearing Michael of all charges, mean that he can now concentrate on the future and his art.

He will be beginning a brand new chapter in the Michael Jackson LEGEND.

This means that I am not the only person 'Startin' Over' - Michael is now STARTING OVER as well.

As a matter of fact, this will be a brand new beginning for all of us.

Thank you!

Lots of Love

Jackson Attorney Filed A Civil Suit Against Martin Bashir
Mood:  happy
Topic: Main News

On August 23, 2005, attorneys for Jackson filed suit in a civil case against journalist Martin Bashir. Bashir, 34, who is mostly known for the Diana, Princess of Wales interview, and his more recent "Living with Michael Jackson," is accused of defrauding Jackson and harrassing staff at Marwell Zoo, London where Bubbles and Muscles, Jackson's former pets are kept. No official comment has been made, although insiders say that Jackson is "deeply disturbed" and that "these actions are unwelcome in lieu of Bashir's unsatisfactory and unsavory interviewing techniques". Bashir has a history of stalking and has previously been served restraining orders forcing him to stay away from the Beckham's, and their two children, Brooklyn and Romeo.

Surprise guest gives thrill to Jackson fans

LV celebration marks King of Pop's acquittal

By BRIAN HAYNES
REVIEW-JOURNAL

More than 150 fans from around the world gathered Saturday night in Las Vegas to celebrate Michael Jackson's recent acquittal on child molestation charges, and when the surprise guest of the evening arrived, the fans could hardly contain themselves.

The flashbulbs popped and the video cameras whirred as the guest entered.

An emcee urged the pressing crowd to give him space. Cheers and applause filled the room at the Front Door Bar & Grill on Paradise Road near Tropicana Avenue.

"It's amazing," local fan Farah Pajuheshfar said. "It's Michael's dad, you know."

For Pajuheshfar and other fans at the MJJ Forum Victory Vindication 2005, being in the presence of the King of Pop's pop, Joseph Jackson, was the next best thing to seeing Michael Jackson himself.

Joseph Jackson waded through the crowd to his reserved table, then fans lined up for a chance to sit next to him and get their pictures taken.

When Pajuheshfar, who heads the MJ Soldiers of Love fan club in Las Vegas, got her chance, she smiled for snapshots and pointed out her self-made collection of Michael Jackson artwork pinned to the walls.

She came away from the meeting breathless.

"It's like I get closer and closer" to the Jackson family, she said.

Meanwhile, at least four Michael Jackson impersonators took turns kicking, spinning and gyrating on the dance floor. Someone hocked Jackson T-shirts at a table, and fans, many wearing glittery tops and tilted fedoras, celebrated their idol's acquittal.

"The legal system was shamed," said Kimberly Wright, a casino buffet hostess from the Detroit suburb of Highland Park, Mich.

She complained about "all the real rapists and child molesters that were probably in the city of Santa Maria who got off the hook because they were trying to crucify this man.

"It was disgusting."

The 28-year-old wore a custom-designed basketball jersey adorned with a picture of a gloved hand flashing a peace sign.

She also wore a button with Jackson's photo, circa late 1970s, when he still had an Afro and his original nose.

On the patio, Tony Redburn took a break from dancing and explained his fascination with Jackson.

The 20-year-old from Thousand Oaks, Calif., said he was born prematurely and required physical therapy to get his arms and legs working properly.

His mother played a variety of music during the therapy sessions, but when Jackson came on, "I would just come alive," Redburn said.

Now he pays homage to his idol by painting his face a ghostly white, donning a wig and black hat and doing his best impersonation.

He said he hopes to someday work in a show on the Strip.

While Redburn discussed his story, a young woman pulled her reluctant friend in Redburn's direction. "She wants to dance with you," the first woman said.

As that exchange ended, a young woman in a halter top looked Redburn up and down.

"You look extremely sexy," she said.

"It's nice to make people's day," Redburn said, the face paint hiding any sign of a blush.

Raquel Choyce, a Las Vegas resident and president of the Michael Jackson United Nation International Fan Club, organized the three-day event, which included a karaoke contest and a picnic.

Her mother, Carol Mainor, said Choyce went to her first Jackson concert at age 2.

"Right from that point she was standing in her seat, and she's been a fan ever since," Mainor said of her now 35-year-old daughter.

Besides heading a Jackson fan club, Choyce moonlights as a Janet Jackson impersonator. But her Jackson mania doesn't stop there.

"Strangely enough," her mother said, "she married a Michael impersonator."
