Jackson may help local entertainment project
Mood:  happy
Topic: Breaking News
MANAMA: Pop superstar Michael Jackson is holding talks with a Bahrain-based company over a string of possible entertainment projects in the Gulf, from theme parks to music academies.

The star and AAJ Holdings are discussing ways of working together, it was announced yesterday.

Mr Jackson may provide the company and its subsidiaries with consultancy advice to help bolster the music and entertainment sector in the Gulf.

"Stagnant" properties could be revived through entertainment projects, says AAJ Holdings owner and founder Ahmed Abubaker Janahi.

His group has interests in companies around the world and concentrates on projects involving city and urban developments.

AAJ Holdings was instrumental in the creation of the Bahrain Financial Harbour in Bahrain and the Blue City in Oman.

Officials would not comment further yesterday.

Michael Jackson stages turnaround
Mood:  happy
Topic: Main News

by Richard Morgan Posted 04:44 EST, 6, Jan 2006

Michael Jackson's professional behavior has taken such a bizarre turn toward the rational that the erstwhile King of Pop could have his financial house in order as early as next month.

The House that "Thriller" built and that Jackson has since nearly demolished is still a messy place. But thanks to a short-term extension on $200 million of debt collateralized by his stake in the so-called Beatles song catalog a?” not to mention new representation intent on resolving outstanding legal and financial matters a?” sources familiar with Jackson's finances are more optimistic than they've been in months about averting bankruptcy.

Moreover, the singer appears sufficiently recovered from his June acquittal of child molestation charges to have retained advisers who have more going for them than, as has previously been charged, "having Michael's ear." New legal representation from Jackson's post-trial base in Bahrain has even been complimented by a critical U.S. observer for providing "good advice."

Much of that advice concerns Sony/ATV Music Publishing, a music-publishing joint venture between Jackson and Sony Corp. While it's informally known as the Beatles catalog, the copyrights Sony/ATV either owns or administers extend far beyond the Fab Four to include songs by Leonard Cohen, Miles Davis, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, the Everly Brothers, Jimi Hendrix and many others.

Borrowing against his stake in Sony/ATV a?” a half-share that court testimony has valued in excess of $500 million a?” Jackson reportedly owed Bank of America Corp. more than $250 million by 2000. According to court documents, however, BofA dissociated itself from Jackson last May by selling $272.5 million of the singer's debt to New York private equity firm Fortress Investment Group LLC.

Of the amount taken on by Fortress, $200 million was said to have been collateralized by Sony/ATV. Jackson's solely owned catalog, MiJac Music Publishing Co., and a lien on his Neverland ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley secured the remainder.

On Dec. 20, Jackson's Sony/ATV-backed loan came due. The deadline gave way to the short-term extension, ultimately, after erroneous speculation Fortress would use a Jackson default to force the singer to sell his Sony/ATV stake to Sony.

In exchange for the extension, Fortress is receiving extension fees and a default interest rate. But the "buying of time," a source said, will prove well worth it.

"They're putting together a long-term plan," he explained, "for paying down some debt and coming up with a lifestyle the guy can actually afford." Another source close to the case added, "Michael's now aware it would be financial suicide for him to lose the catalog by not getting a deal done."

On a parallel track, but to the same end, Jackson has also obtained new representation in an action against him by Prescient Acquisition Group Inc. That suit, filed July 11, seeks $48 million for advisory services allegedly undertaken on behalf of Jackson not only to pay off his bank debt but to buy out Sony from their mutually owned catalog.

After being retained in November 2004, the suit charges, "Prescient in fact secured a commitment for a total of $537.5 million in financing to enable Mr. Jackson to pay off the Bank of America debt and exercise his 'put option' to purchase the 50% interest in the entity known as Sony/ATV that he does not currently own." For its efforts, the suit continues, Prescient has a documented right to a fee of 9% of "the principal amount funded or committed."

Sources close to Sony insisted there's no way it's selling its half of Sony/ATV. However, according to the Prescient suit, a trust set up by Jackson has "an option to purchase the remaining 50% interest in that Beatles library from its partner, Sony/ATV, for $200 million."

The suit has been repeatedly delayed in court, most recently by Latham & Watkins LLP's withdrawing in November as counsel for Jackson. But it promises to begin anew now that William B. Wachtel of Wachtel & Masyr LLP has started representing the defendant.

One source noted that Wachtel and lead Prescient attorney Steven Altman are familiar with the case's legal terrain, having both worked on "Bowie bonds" back in the 1990s. "They know this stuff isn't brain surgery," he said, "so I'm guessing they'll be able to work together and get a deal done."

Dear MTV
Mood:  energetic
Topic: Open Letters
Dear MTV,

My name is Telena Rogers and i am writing you in regards to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Myself, and many others are saddened by the treatment Michael Jackson receives on your music station. It seems as if every time Mr. Jackson is mentioned on your station, it is a negative message, or he is downplayed by different speakers featured on your shows. I am disappointed because Mr. Jackson has done so much to advance and better the entertainment industry. He deserves much more respect than what MTV gives him. It is a known fact that Michael had the biggest impact on breaking the color line on MTV. Today, a large portion of your music videos are by African American artist. Michael has a lot to do with that.

I am a fan of Michael Jackson, and I want to ask if the MTV crew would please take this matter into consideration and reevaluate their actions. I would like to see your station respect Michael, and new upcoming artist. Michael Jackson has changed the music industry for the better, and his great impact can never be forgotten. I would like to see more of Michael's videos played, and more positive dialog about him on your shows. I'm not one to pull the race card, but as an African American, I do not appreciate the disrespect MJJ receives when he has opened the doors for many music artists; Black and White. MTV has benefited from playing Michael’s videos because he created a diverse fan base for your station. Please treat him with more respect. Thank you for reading.

To the Staff and Producers of MTV

To the Staff and Producers of MTV

I will just start by saying I used to love to watch your show back in the 80's, when you were just getting started. My television was on MTV 24/7 and it was great. I loved the Michael Jackson videos, and couldn't wait to rush to the television to see them. My daughter was raised watching MTV. We used to leave it on all the time. Even at night. My son was raised watching it too. But I won't allow him to watch it anymore, as I don't either. I have to say, I was deeply saddened and disgusted by the negativity that has been shown to Michael Jackson on your show. I did not like the message it was protraying to my fourteen year old son. Belittling and picking fun at others is not an attribute I wish him to have. Besides, he likes Michael's music too. And doesn't like to see that sort of thing either. He doesn't think it's funny.

I was born in 1958, like Michael, and have followed his career for all my life. I remember when the Jackson Five were on boxes of Alpha Bit cereal. No other black musical artist has or ever will (in my opinion) reach the sheer musical genius of Michael Jackson. Certainly no one I know of can even come close to dancing like he does. I feel that he deserves alot more respect from the music industry, as I see his influence in many many of today's artists. Michael is an Icon. He has accomplished what very few artists have. His music is Everlasting. My little granddaughter loves to watch his dvds and videos. She loves to dance to the music and can recognize that voice singing anywhere, any day of the week. We were at the Wal Mart doing our Christmas shopping and she heard Michael's music over the loudspeakers and broke out into a big grin and started to dance in the Wal Mart. Michael's music will last for generations to come. Please do me and yourselves a favor, and start playing his videos more. You may get a whole new viewing audience. You may even get us to watch again.

Sincerely,

Julie C. Bramow

Support Michael Jackson Campaign Underway!!

The Support Michael Jackson Campaign led by MJNO , is a campaign in which fans around the world are coming together to change the negative views that have been unfairly reported of Michael Jackson by the media, prior to, during and after the trial.

Our current project is aimed toward MTV, because of the way they have turned their backs on Michael and have joined the media in belittling Michael. After how Michael has earned MTV huge ratings upon the release of 'Thriller', and other successful Music Video's, we find their negativity toward Michael Jackson unacceptable.

There is strength in number. Our goal is 100 individual letters expressing displeasure of MTV's current negative views and asking MTV to be more positive and respectful toward Michael on MTV! We would like to stress though that fans not show their anger by attacking MTV in their letters. MTV will become defensive which would only jeopardize the efforts of this campaign.

We want to show that this affects many of us all over the world. Be professional and respectful in your letter, as we don't want to come off as crazy or obsessed fans.

In your letter please include your first and last name and mailing address, and send your letter to GacFlxg@aol.com, who is collecting all letters to be sent to MTV. Be sure to have "MTV Letter" in the Subject Line. We want MTV to recognize that there are many people who show an interest in seeing better coverage and treatment of Michael Jackson on MTV. The deadline is January 30th, so get your letters in ASAP!

You can also show your support by placing this "Support Michael Jackson Campaign" request on your website, message board etc etc.

Thriller named best music video in "The Box" poll

Topic: Main News

Thriller is named best music video Sunday December 11,2005...
Michael Jackson's Thriller has been named the favourite music video of all time.

The scary scenes beat competition from Eminem's Stan and Madonna's Like a Prayer.

Robbie Williams' Rock DJ made fourth place, followed by Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer.

When Thriller came out in 1983 it was the first big budget music video or short film, featuring all the latest special effects of the time.

The list of most memorable videos was voted for by the British public.

Vikki Timmons, spokeswomen for digital music channel The Box, which is broadcasting the video countdown, said: "Thriller was an instant hit in 1983 when it was released and it was well ahead of its time.

"It's amazing to think that although there have been huge advances in technology and some amazing new music videos over the past few years, Thriller still tops the list."

More than 7,000 votes were cast in The Box's search for the top 100 Greatest Music Videos of All Time.

Contrary to rumors, his spokesperson denies report that singer overdosed

Access Hollywood
Updated: 5:51 p.m. ET Dec. 9, 2005

In an exclusive statement released to Access Hollywood, Michael Jackson's spokesperson fires back at reports that the pop star has suffered an overdose from drugs and alcohol.

In response to a story by The National Enquirer that Jackson suffered from an overdose from drugs and alcohol, his spokesperson and publicist, Raymone K. Bain, released the following statement to Access Hollywood:

“Michael Jackson and been working with several artists recording his Katrina Relief song, and with me all week, including today. He is doing fine and I have never seen him happier or healthier. Whomever these individuals are who are intent on disseminating false information throughout the media regarding Mr. Jackson, should begin hiring good attorneys; and the journalists who continuously rely on these ‘sources’ should begin checking them thoroughly, because Mr. Jackson's tolerance level has come to an end.

“The Green light that people have thought they have had to willfully impugn Michael Jackson's character and integrity has now become Red.”

Michael Jackson has revealed details of an audacious singles release
Mood:  celebratory
Topic: Main News
The global superstar, who has sought refuge from media attention in the Gulf States since the summer, will release 20 of his biggest singles from January to May 2006 on the new dual disc format. According to his label, the release will be the first time an artist has ever used Dual Disc, which contains two sides of audio and video, for a single release.

Starting January 23, 2006, SonyBMG will release one single each week for a five-month run, mirroring last year's campaign for Elvis Presley's singles reissue. "Thriller" and "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" are the first to drop, released simultaneously on January 23, followed by "Rock With You", "Billy Jean" and many other of his biggest hits. The campaign ends May 29th with "Blood On The Dancefloor".

Each Dual Disc single will feature an exact replica of the original 7" or 12" artwork, enclosed in a limited and numbered card wallet. All the audio has been digitally re-mastered and will feature the original 7" or radio edit of the lead track plus a sought after remixes or related songs.

"Michael has been fully behind this project and the originality of the first ever dual disc single idea typifies the creativity of one of the most innovative artist in our lifetime," said SonyBMG's Darren Henderson. "The quality of each single, having the audio on one side and the video on the other, is a compelling proposition for his fans.'

ATTENTION FANS OF MICHAEL JACKSON REGARDING THE ANTI-SEMITIC ACCUSATIONS
Mood:  happy
Topic: Main News
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Raymone K. Bain

November 23, 2005

Michael Jackson does not have a racist bone in his body. NEVER would he say anything, or do anything, that would be offensive to any ethnic group, or hurtful to any ethnic group. It is not in his character, or his being. He has spent his entire life reaching out to people throughout the world by spreading love through his music, and his philanthropic efforts.

It is unfortunate that these tapes are being disseminated throughout the airways without any "due diligence" with regards to the authenticity. However, Mr. Mesereau is representing Mr. Jackson in this matter and the truth will be revealed.

Because this is an on-going legal matter, we are not issuing any statements at this time.

JACKSON TO FIGHT ANTI-SEMITIC ACCUSATIONS WITH JEWISH LAWYER!!
Mood:  bright
Topic: Main News

MICHAEL JACKSON's Jewish attorney has vowed to defend his pop star client against accusations of anti-Semitism.

America's Anti-Defamation League (ADL) demanded the THRILLER singer apologize for allegedly making a series of anti-Semitic comments on a voicemail message, which was aired on US TV show GOOD MORNING AMERICA on Tuesday (23NOV05).

The message was purportedly left by Jackson for his former advisor DIETER WIESNER two years ago (03) - Wiesner is currently suing his former employer for fraud and breach and contract. He is seeking $64
million (GBP35.5 million) in damages.

But Jackson's lawyer BRIAN OXMAN, who is himself a Jew, insists he has never seen a hint of anti-Semitism in the 15 years he has represented the Jackson family.

He tells the New York Daily News, "I have been with the Jackson family for 15 years, and I'm Jewish. I have never once seen anything anti-Semitic from him or from his family."

BRITISH ASIAN MUSICIAN ON KATRINA CHARITY SINGLE!!

A man described as the "godfather of the British Asian musical movement" has provided his vocals for Michael Jackson's Hurricane Katrina charity single.

"I got involved because I have worked with Chris Porter, an engineer and producer, who knew Michael Jackson was looking for an Asian musician for his new single," said musician Pandit Dinesh (pictured left).

The recording is said to have taken place during Michael's visit to London last month at Metropolis Recording Studio in Chiswick, according to the Edgware & Mill Hill Times, (a publication located in the London Borough of Barnet) and Dinesh recalled his experience, "(Michael) was lovely, very much a child though," he said. "It was not for long, as with things like this. You do your bit separately but it was nice to see him."

Dinesh also revealed the title of the song to be I Have A Dream, which corroborates what was said by Ciara (another participating artist) a few weeks ago. Although, the title of the song has not yet been officially confirmed.

Michael Jackson Pleads for Money on Tapes
Mood:  quizzical
Topic: Truth Or Fiction
Two Former Advisors File Complaints Against Jackson

Nov. 22, 2005 — - ABC News has obtained phone messages placed by Michael Jackson to a former advisor who has filed a lawsuit against the pop star.

Marc Schaffel is suing Jackson for $3 million dollars, claiming he was unpaid $800,000 for his work on two television specials and $2.3 million in payments and loans over a number of years.

Jackson countersued Schaffel, saying he is the one that is owed money.

On he tapes obtained by ABC News, Jackson is the one pleading for money.

"Hello Marc, it's Michael," one message to Schaffel begins. "Please, please never let me down. I really like you. I love you … Mark, I really need you to get … $7 million for me as soon as possible … Seven, seven and a half, umm, as an advance."

Schaffel says for over two years he was an advisor for and close confidant to Jackson. According to Schaffel, Jackson's bankers placed restrictions on the singer, so the star would use middle men like Schaffel to access his own money and arrange various loans.

ABC News has learned another former advisor to Michael Jackson named Dieter Wiesner filed a civil complaint against Michael Jackson in Los Angeles on Monday for $64 million.

"He uses people like Marc Schaffel and whoever he's currently using to get around the restrictions on his current financing," said Howard King, Schaffel's attorney.

Schaffel said Jackson often required large amounts of cash and sometimes he requested it in code. He said the money supported Jackson's lifestyle.

"You go to a restaurant, you have to close the whole restaurant down for the day, you know, pay for the entire day's receipts in the restaurant so that he can go in and enjoy a quiet meal," Schaffel said.

Schaffel said he once delivered $100,000 to Jackson in an Arby's fast food bag.

"When he wanted large amounts, he would call and say 'supersize them,'" Schaffel said. "The smaller amounts. The bigger ones went in duffle bags."

In 2003, Jackson turned to Schaffel to plan a response to the allegations that Jackson had had an improper relationship with a young cancer survivor. Later, Schaffel was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the California criminal prosecution of Jackson.

Schaffel says he has hundreds of voice mail messages from Jackson from 2001 to 2003 that show the nature of his relationship, including Jackson's darker side.

"Michael will yell at you, Michael will punish you, maybe not let you do something," Schaffel said. Schaffel's relationship ended just before Jackson's most recent criminal problems. Schaffel said he is not surprised that since Jackson's acquittal, Jackson has relocated to Bahrain, because it fits Jackson's pattern of looking for a new friend.

Jackson attorney Tom Mesereau told ABC News, "When the jury hears the evidence, they will know Schaffel isn't owed anything." Mesereau said he would not comment on the content of the tapes and could not comment on the Weisner lawsuit until he had seen it.

Reported by Senior ABC News legal correspondent Chris Cuomo on "Good Morning America."

COPS WANT JACKSON FOOTAGE

BY AMIRA AGARIB

20 November 2005

The Dubai Police has written to the management of Ibn Batuta Mall to hand over the video clips of Michael Jackson taken by the camera monitors in different shops, or those taken by shoppers who saw the pop star during his visit to the mall last week.

Jackson visited many shops during his visit to the mall. The Dubai Police does not want any person or shop owner to use or exploit the situation by using photographs of Michael Jackson for any commercial purpose or otherwise. All the pictures handed over by the shops will be handed over to forensic laboratory.

The decision by the police to call in for all the pictures of the singer was taken following the flutter caused by Michael Jackson entering the ladies toilet in the mall to fix his make-up. His presence in the toilet had scared a woman shopper, who later took his photographs.

DUBAI — Apprehending commercial exploitation of the video clips and photographs of Michael Jackson, the Dubai Police have asked the management of Ibn Batuta Mall to hand over all shots of the pop icon during his visit to the mall last week. Besides the video shots that several shops would have from their close-circuit monitoring systems, shoppers too had taken snaps of the singer. Police are keen that people don't exploit the situation for commercial purposes
