Mud Football (Suitable for 4 to 12 players)

I can here some parents screaming now-'no not mud!'
But yes, mud.I know this sends visions of carpets and funiture covered in glop, but if you'll read on, you'll see this is can be remedied so it will not be a problem.

First off, find a area (generally a backyard or front yard) that is free of large/sharp rocks and prickly weeds and anything else that could cause a problem. Section off a large square area by sticking for tall dowel rods firmly into the ground and then using some ribbon or 'no crossing' tape that is available in most hardware stores. Using your hose, drench the enclosed with water until you have at least 3 inches of soft pliable mud or the equivalent amount it takes to sink your toes all the way under.Using either a soft foam football or a standard issue one (the choice is yours)-let your children play a game of football by dividing them into teams of 2 to 6 depending on the number of chidlren playing. If they have friends whose parents will allow it, have them join in the fun!
This is also good for older children and adults.

Some words of warning!
Always supervise your children when playing, and be sure they are wearing protection, especially helmets, arm, elbow, and knee pads as accidents can still happen same as all sports.

To save your childrens clothing, make sure it's something old and doesn't really get worn anymore-that way if it's damaged or if you simply cannot or don't want to try to get the mud off, you'll not need to worry. As far as shoes go, i recommend playing barefoot, or wearing old tennis shoes that can easily be hosed down and left to dry outside.

To keep all that mud outside where it belongs, have your children change out of they're clothing in a garage or other closed off space (you can hang some sheets and have them change behind that if necessary).Spray the clothing witht he hose to remove the larger build ups of mud, then have deposit all the clothing into some standard kitchen garbage bags
Spray off hands, arms, feet, legs etc. with a hose and let them drip dry for a bit before having them shower/bathe.

Please remember-never leave them unsupervised. Be responsible and use common sense.
