Women's Retro Clothes
Welcome to the 1980's Fashion In Text Section-Women's Retro Clothes! Here you can read about what rero clothes women wore in the 1980's......
Between 1980 and 1986, when "the average American woman was thirty-two years old, weighed 143 pounds and wore a size 10-12 dress"(p. 171, Faludi), frilly retro clothes which modeled the Victorian Era flourished in the fashion industry. This fashion revolution was created by the fashion industry in order to backlash the feminist movement of the 1970's. During the feminist movement, women were spending less money on clothes. Thus, the High Femininity movement was created. Women's fashions were mimicking the fashions of the Victorian Era. The Victorian Era mainly served as a constriction model since "Personal insecurity is the great motivator to shop" (p. 91, Ewen). The modeling of Victorian Fashion didn't just happen in the 1980's. Some clothes is still used in photo shoots in mags like Vanity Fair.
