Prelude

The meteor flew through space. It was moving toward the blue planet. The people of the blue planet knew this but were not afraid. In between the meteor and the blue planet was the red planet. The blue planet was called Earth. The red planet was Mars. The meteor was named Odysseus by the people of Earth. Odysseus struck Mars. It was to large to be destroyed in the atmosphere and hit the planet's surface. Enormous chunks of Mars and Odysseus flew into space. Some made it to the blue planet, Earth. Most burnt up in the atmosphere but a few crashed into the sea and some into the land. Fortunetly they were all small. However, they had unleashed a greater threat...

Japan-1993

Akira Shinoda walked up the stairs to the G-Unit headquarters. He had progressed so far in the last six years. Waiting at the top of the stairs was a soldier waiting to show him around. "Mr. Shinoda..." Shinoda through up his hand at this. "You're fired." The soldier blinked for a moment. "Excuse me sir?" Shinoda looked at him with a look of cold, hard, frustration. "I said you're fired." The soldier tried to argue but Shinoda just walked past him. "Mr. Shinoda wait! I...I need twenty-four hours notice before you can releive me from the G-Unit." Shinoda looked at him. He could see weakness in this soldier, and he didn't like it. "Fine. In that case act like a flunky for today and then you're fired.", Shinoda replied. The soldier didn't know how to react to this, but went by his orders: informing the new head of the G-Unit on everything he needed to know.

"We're trying to find a way to kill Godzilla. We've tried every weapon known to us, except weapons of mass destruction. We've built several knew weapons to deal with Godzilla that we call Mecha's. The Sleiphnir and Viper are the only notable ones but we've tried many other models, all failures." Shinoda was quiet for a time, "That's because you're not thinking correctly. You can't beat Godzilla with power, he's pure power. You need strategy, he's not a thinking animal. If you have jets and choppers blind him, then use the ground forcess to confuse him, then have land mines laid out to trip him up, have the viper aid in blinding him, and then have battle ships fire cruise missiles to further confuse him you might win. However, that won't kill him. If you weaken him like that you'll be able to though, if you have the right weapon."

The soldier was impressed. Shinoda turned on him, "Do you have a weapon like that?" The soldier snapped back to reality and replied, "CX-9. One last canister remains. The Sleiphnir used it on Godzilla in Tokyo Bay in 86. That night a red light filled the harbor and later the remains of the Sleiphnir were raised. Godzilla was gone. We suspect that CX-9 had been fired, exploded in the water, and was set a blaze by Godzilla. However, it obviously didn't kill him. Two canisters were loaded onto the Viper but only one was fired, on Gigan. Mr.Yamada didn't allow us to fire on Godzilla as he had stopped Gigan." Shinoda scoffed at this, "Sentimentality, Yamada's weakness." The soldier had liked Yamada, far more than he did Shinoda now. "Mr. Yamada left the G-Unit last year, he was tired of trying to kill Godzilla. He founded the GIC (Godzilla Information Center) and is now studying Godzilla in cooperation with the G-Unit." Shinoda ignored this and continued to ask about the CX-9. The soldier told him all he knew about the weapon. Shinoda already knew that CX-9 was a cluster of nine unstable chemical compounds but now he was aware that the only way to kill Godzilla with it would be to inject it into his bloodstream. "I think I'll keep you around for a time soldier. You may prove useful."

Suddenly an alarm went off. The soldier jumped at this, "He's appeared in Hokkaido sir!". Shinoda looked calm but his spirit was preparing for war. "Get to Hokkaido and do as I say!" Godzilla was in waste deep water, waste deep for him that is. The huge behemoth made his way toward the shore, announcing his presence to any would be challengers with an awesome roar. Why had he come here? It wasn't time for him to feed. Something else was calling out to him, he could sense it, but what was it?

The Crisis

Godzilla made his way across the feilds of Hokkaido. Suddenly jets came rushing at him from the south, aiming thier missiles at his eyes. Godzilla was temporarily blinded by the blast but managed to destroy two of the seven jets with his atomic breath. Another group of jets rushed from the east, again firing at his eyes. Godzilla roared in rage as the bright explosions went off in his eyes. He could hear choppers behind him. He turned to fire but was met with missiles and gun fire to his face. Godzilla unleashed his atomic ray on the choppers, each one was destroyed. Shinoda watched the battle from his chopper, he had insisted he be at the battle feild. The Viper arrived at the battle feild. It's wings, sharpened to points and slanted back gleamed as the sun hit them. It's arrow like body ended in a rounded point that held the CX-9. Not only was it equipped with the CX-9 but it was also equipped with two laser cannons. No man would die in this machine, it was controlled by a computer giving it the speed to dodge Godzilla's atomic breath, at least in theory.

The Viper fired its beams on Godzilla's eyes. The monster king roared in agony and charged blindly at its attacker. Godzilla was met with the fire of tanks and missiles that made up the ground forcess. Lazer cannons were used to aid in blinding him as the jets and the Viper led him toward the land mines. Godzilla prepared his atomic ray and was then interrupted when cruise missiles fired from distant battle ships struck his side. Godzilla stumbled on the mines as they went off under his feet. The onslaut continued, and Godzilla fell. The Viper moved in, aimed, and fired the specially made missile containing the CX-9 into Godzilla's open mouth. The CX-9 burst and went down Godzilla's throat, the asidic compounds eating away at the flesh of his esaphagous and wind pipe. Godzilla was choking, burning, he couldn't breath, he couldn't retaliate with his atomic ray. The SDF continued to fire on him, trying to kill him even though they were incapable of doing so. The CX-9 was doing its job though, it looked dark for Godzilla. But his regenerative powers were about to kick in.

Far away from the battle, in Tokyo, Sarah Jane felt Godzilla's pain. Sarah was an eight year old American girl with pretty blue eyes and blond hair. She was orphaned and sent to a psychic school in Japan when the nuns at her orphanage learned of her abilities. She had a strange liking for Godzilla, which few could understand, not even her teacher Mrs. Keoni. But Sarah had been right about Godzilla saving them in 91 from Gigan, and those who new her rarely doubted that she was right about matters concerning Godzilla.

They're trying to kill you Godzilla! Sarah knew what she had to do. She had the ability to tell when things were going to happen and she had always been able to read minds but only recently had she started working with telepathic messages. She had managed to send a few to her freinds but only from a few feet away. As far as telepathy went Hokkaido was nearly an impossibility. But she had to try. Godzilla, go back to the sea. The message left her, she pushed it out to Godzilla, she forced it to go to him with all her mental power. In telepathy there was no language, only understanding. Godzilla would know what she ment if she only pushed it out to him. She used all her power to do it, and she was getting tired.

Godzilla's power flowed through him. His cells were regenerated. The great titan rose from the ground and prepared to attack. Shinoda realized that it was hopeless. "Retreat! Everyone retreat! Don't fire or you'll make matters worse!" All but the Viper left, it would hold Godzilla off. It fired at his eyes and zoomed by him. Godzilla was now angrier than ever, and fired at the Viper. However, the Viper had the skill to dodge the blast and did. The Viper returned fire but a second blast cut the wing of the Mecha and brought it down, a third one destroyed it. Shinoda watched the Viper crash, then watched the troops retreat, then looked at Godzilla. Suddenly a thought appeared in Godzilla's mind: return to the sea. Godzilla didn't know what to do, he was in a rage but it had retreated to the depths of his body. He looked up at the chopper, the only thing left on the battle feild. The chopper hadn't fought in the battle, so the great beast left it and returned to the sea, in peace.

Sarah was tired. She was successful in turning Godzilla out to sea, but it had taken a lot out of her. But someone else had heard Sarah's call, someone who shouldn't have...

The Godzilla Information Center

Shiro Yamada was watching a tape of Godzilla's 1954 attack when Akira Shinoda walked in unannounced. Both Shiro and Shinoda studied each other for a moment, trying to decide what to think of the other. Shiro looked at the tall slim man with the deep set, brown eyes and the neatly parted hair. Well, he's the same as he was when I met him three years ago, ambitious, untrusting, strong willed, and cunning. At about this time Yuki Musaki, Shiro's old freind and now partner in the GIC walked in. She greated the two of them in her usual kind, cheerful way and sat down. Shinoda begin to study her as well before finally setting down. Shiro turned off the tape and turned to Shinoda. "Good afternoon Mr. Shinoda. How can we help you." Shinoda's face remained unreadable for a moment, then he responded. "You know the Viper was destroyed. We need your help now. You see, you've been studying Godzilla for years, both of you, and we hope you may be able to help us."

Yuki looked into Shinoda's eyes and then begin to ponder what he wanted. Is he wanting us to work on a Mecha for him? Does he think we're just Godzilla killers for hire? In reality Yuki could never suspect what Shinoda was thinking. No one could. It was a trick Shinoda had learned years ago, keep yourself to yourself. Shinoda was the one who broke the silence. "I know you do work for the G-Unit on occasion. Mr. Yamada, Miss Musaki, I want you to turn anything over to us that you think may be vital to Japan's safety. Then I want you to turn over any information that might reveal Godzilla's weaknesses. Namely, we need your help in learning how Godzilla's atomic ray works. If we can harness that power we might be able to make a weapon that can stop Godzilla." Shiro and Yuki considered this for a moment. Yuki began to wonder about this man. A weapon like that in the wrong hands could prove distructive, is it worth risking it? Shiro turned away from Akira Shinoda. "I'm sorry, we can't help you make that sort of weapon. Besides we don't have enought data to..." Shinoda had left.

The Planet Slayer

The three boys ran through the woods, thier sister was secretly watching. Suddenly they stopped and begin to circle around something as the girl watched. "Look at those red rocks, is it a nest?" "The egg is hatching! What is it?"

The boys looked at the tiny creature. It was about three inches long, jet black, with spider like legs coming out of its tadpole like body and an armored mouth with three fangs. At the end of its tail was a long spike. The tiny thing had little red eyes that didn't move or blink, they just sat there. Then the thing leaped at one of the boys. It jabbed its legs and mouth into his arm and slashed its tail at the other two as they tried to help. A blue-green light appeared and moved into the creature. The boy screamed and then froze, paralyzed. Then he was dead.

The thing was now the size of a large cat and lunged at another boys chest and locked on. The little girl saw him die in the same way as the first. She ran, so did her only living brother. The thing didn't seem to notice the girl, but it did the boy. It was now just his size. He ran as fast as he could and turned to see his brothers' bodies. The thing flew at him, it was somehow flying after him. It caught him, and forced him to the ground. When it was done it was the size of a cow. It then crept into the forest, slowly. It was now free to feed after millions of years.

Kidnapped!

Shiro and Yuki were driving to the psychic school where Sarah lived. Her parents had died in a car accident years ago. Shiro made a point in passing the Godzilla memorials, one built in honor of those who lost their lives in the 1954 attack and the other dedicated in 86 to all those who died in that year's kaiju attacks and was later dedicated to all who where killed in all kaiju attack. Yokohama and Fukuoka also had similar memorials and Sapporo had a cemetary dedicated to those killed in Ghidorah's attack. Many villages also had such memorials. Kyoto had been lucky and thus had no such memorial to Shiro's knowledge.

The two pulled in to the parking lot of the psychic school and found the police pulled in. After racing to Sarah's room they discovered a broken window and Mrs. Keoni crying. Sarah had been kidnapped.

Shiro and Yuki thought the worst, but Sarah was fine. She sat, offered the finest food and drink one could imagine, on a small yaht in Tokyo Bay. Her kidnapper, or the one behind it, sat across from her. The beautiful woman of Japanese origin was wearing a beautiful white dress and a gold neckless with a quartz crystal hanging over her breast.

"My name is Krystal, and you are Sarah Jane?" Sarah nodded, and tried to read the mind of this beautiful devil, but it was blocked off, a tactic used to keep unwanted mind-readers out. Krystal sipped a glass of wine and then spoke again. "Do you know what communism is Little Girl?" Sarah nodded, but did not respond. Krystal smiled slightly, then spoke once more. "You may think you know what communism is but you don't. You think we are dictators that try to control every aspect of the lives of the people no? That is what the Americans have branded us. What we really want is to make all people equal. To acheive that, a strong government is needed to insure that future and as we can allow nothing to destroy that future nothing can oppose the government that insures it. Eventually, a new world will be born, a perfect world, and the government will disolve. Isn't that a wonderful idea Little Girl?" Sarah didn't respond.

"However, the great future may not be born at all. The greatest communist power, the Soviet Union, is gone. We are here to save the future of our perfect world. You see, before the Soviet Union collapsed the die-hard communist founded the Red Wing organization to try and save communism. We, the Red Wing, are funded by those communist in Russia as well as the five remaining communist governments. What we are striving to do is no secret to you now Little Girl. But what you do not realize is that I, like you, am psychic." At this Sarah blocked off her mind, but Krystal made no attempt to read it. "I lured Godzilla to Hokkaido, but I cannot control him. You sent him a message didn't you, to return to the sea no?" Sarah nodded. "I heard your message, I am surprised that you sent it all the way to Hokkaido from Tokyo, not even I can do that. What I want, is for you to help me. Help me acheive a perfect world where Godzilla can live in peace along side humanity. No wars, no violence, peace, perfection. I'll help you train your powers to help build that perfect world. Will you help me?"

Sarah's mind raced. Is she lying. I've always been told communism was wrong. Could this be true. Suddenly Sarah felt Krystal enter her mind. She pushed back, and Krystal left willingly. Krystal smiled and then stood. "I have one more question to ask you Little Girl. Have you felt the disturbance of late?" Sarah knew what she ment. Something had disturbed the energy fields of the planet, though she didn't know what it was. Sarah nodded, which seemed enough for Krystal. Krystal walked toward the door and turned to Sarah. "If you need anything just press the switch on the wall. I'll post a guard outside. I hope you will sleep well Little Girl."

Sarah didn't sleep for a time though, wondering if this Krystal was monitering her, listening to her thoughts. Sarah decided to risk it and sent a message out to Shiro. Sarah, in the bay, yaht, fine, help! Shiro got the message and set a plan into action. Krystal did not monitor this though, she was trying to find the source of the disturbance. She did, and found it was a living thing.

Aethra

The small platoon moved through the woods of Kyushu. Akira Shinoda had sent them to investigate reports of a possibly new kaiju. Then they saw it. The massive black mound with armored flesh, twenty meters long. A long spike jutted out from the rear of thing. The tiny red eyes didn't move. It laid fixed to the ground, not moving.

The creature was concious of everything around it, it felt all the mana rushing about it. It fed on the mana, the energy of the planet, the energy of all living things. It was now feeding on the mana, consuming it from the planet.

The villagers approached cautiously. A little girl walked up behind the soldiers and shivered. "Aethra." The soldiers turned. One of them kneeled down and looked at the little girl. "What did you say?" The girls mother ran toward her. "It's a name she gave it. It killed my sons, her brothers." The soldiers turned, ready to fire on the thing. Then it begin to rise into the air, somehow, its massive root-like legs dangling. The thing, Aethra flew into the air and headed for an enormous power that it had felt since it had come to this planet.

***********************************************************************

Godzilla vs. Aethra

Godzilla slept. He had left the shores of Hokkaido and moved to Japan's southern most point where he now rested in the deep waters. The sleeping giant rose from the depths, he sinced something. Something was coming, to fight him.

Aethra dived into the water. It felt the power, Godzilla's power. It would have it. Aethra's was not intelligent. Its race had come from a dark world with little life force and thus its race had evolved to survive. It needed the power that Godzilla had. It craved it.

Godzilla swam like a crocodile would through the depths. He sinced its foe. He sinced Aethra, and then he saw it. Aethra swam toward Godzilla. The underwater battle would now begin. Godzilla vs. Aethra.

Godzilla roared a challenge to his foe, which did not respond. How dare it. Godzilla's mouth glowed and a bright blue beam shot forth, and sent Aethra flying backwards into the depths. Aethra felt no pain though, its nervous system registered the impact but it was too simple to feel anything like pain. The blast was mearly delaying it from gaining its meal. Aethra swam forward again and met another blast. Again Aethra flew backwards but once again recovered. Aethra rushed toward Godzilla but the great beast swerved effortlessly at the last minute and grabbed Aethra's spiked tail in his mouth. Aethra struggled as Godzilla drug it to the bottom, but it was useless as Aethra was one-third Godzilla's size. Godzilla dragged the struggling foe to the ocean floor and then stood there, Aethra struggling to escape, as if deciding what to do. Aethra swung around and stabbed its legs into Godzilla's neck. Godzilla growled, but didn't release the spike in its mouth. He felt his power being drained. Aethra was absorbing energy, but not mana energy. It was absorbing Godzilla's nuclear energy. Suddenly a bright blue light errupted from Godzilla's body and sent Aethra flying across the ocean floor. Godzilla fired his atomic breath again and again. Aethra's simple nervous system registered the impact and the great heat, its bodies way of telling it to leave. It hated great heat and great cold. No, not hate, it couldn't hate. It fled, for the time being. Godzilla roared in triumph. He would finish Aethra later.

***********************************************************************

The Origin Of Aethra

Shiro was now on a small boat headed for the yaht. He remembered his converstation with Shinoda. Shinoda would give him a small team of soldiers to rescue Sarah if he would do some research on the new kaiju that had appeared in Kyushu. Shiro agreed, what choice did he have, but only if he was allowed to join the soldiers. That bastard, how could he exchange a child for research. How could he exchange Sarah for research. Shiro's mind raced as he and the team borded the boat.

There were four guards on board, or at least four were in sight. Two soldiers snuck around and knocked out the guard patroling the deck. This attracted the attention of two other guards who Shiro and another soldier knocked out as well. They made their way to the door which led to Sarah's room. Gun fire rang out from the bay that night. When it ended, the guard lay dead as did one soldier, but Shiro was fine. He and the three remaining soldiers entered Sarah's room to find the little girl alone. She rushed forward and nearly knocked Shiro off his feet. Sarah looked into his eyes, hers filled with tears. "She's gone." Shiro didn't ask anything else. He was happy that she was safe and that he had her back.

Back at the G-Unit headquarters Shiro presented his report to Shinoda. "Aethra. A little girl gave it that name. I suppose that's the best name for it." Shinoda didn't respond, but one of his subordinates did. "Where did this thing, Aethra, come from and how much of a threat does it represant?" Shiro considered this for a minute. "Recently the meteor Odysseus slammed into Mars. When it did it launched chunks of Mars into space. Some of those rocks came to our planet. When the area Aethra came from was investigated rocks were found that came from Mars. Aethra came from Mars in a meteor." Shinoda's subordinate again had a question. "A space monster? What sort of threat does it..." Shiro cleared his throat, "The area that Aethra appeared in is now a wasteland. The forrest is dead, as are the animals. The streams are polluted, the fish dead, and the crops have failed. Three boys were also killed when Aethra reportedly latched on to their bodies. When we examined the bodies we found them to be in perfect condition except for the wounds Aethra had made. However, the wounds were not the cause of death and there was no trace of venom. In the south Pacific there are islanders who beleive in mana, the life energy of the planet and all living things. Perhaps Aethra is growing stronger by feeding on mana." Everyone was quiet for a moment and then Sarah spoke up. "It's true, I've felt it happening!" All eyes turned on the little girl. Shinoda suddenly seemed to realize who this girl was and what kind of powers she had. She had already related the story of Krystal and the Red Wing and how Krystal had lured Godzilla to Hokkaido, perhaps Shinoda beleived Sarah might do the same. Then Shinoda spoke. "What happens if it continues to drain mana from the planet?" Everyone knew the answer but Shiro spoke anyway. "Earth will become like Mars, dead."

***********************************************************************

The Crossing Of The Paths

Aethra swam through the depths. It felt the great mana around it. It would feed again. Its body was made of only a simple nervous system and a reproductive system, that was all. All it fed upon was mana, so would its offspring. It needed no mate. It would gather more mana and then it would lay the eggs, its spawn.

Aethra came on to shore on the Korean Penninsula, South Korea. It plunged its great, spider like legs into the soil, now it would have more mana. Many days passed and Aethra grew larger. It was now sixty meters long. It didn't need to feed now, not on mana. It left its eggs, they would feed on mana when they hatched. Aethra couldn't know, couldn't understand, couldn't care that Korean troops would destroy its eggs with flamethrowers before they hatched. All it wanted now was the massive energy source that had escaped it, Godzilla.

Far away Godzilla stirred. He was being lured to the land again. What ever had called him to Hokkaido was calling him again. The G-Unit was on alert. The new Mecha was prepared. The Atomic Dragon, the new defender of Japan, was prepared. Shinoda had hoped to build a weapon that would have the power of Godzilla's atomic ray, this was the closest they had come. The Atomic Dragon's weapon was the Mega Buster, a powerful ray that had never been tested. Shinoda barked commands at the pilots and engineers as they struggled to get the new weapon in top shape. The thirty meter machine was jet black with a golden dragon of traditional japanese design was painted on both sides. It took six people to pilot it. Its great wings stretched out across the hanger. The Atomic Dragon was ready.

Shinoda looked over at the computer screen showing him a map of Japan. "Godzilla and Aethra will meet in Osaka. Damn it! They'll destroy the entire city." The Atomic Dragon was sent to meet them, and would deal with Godzilla first.

***********************************************************************

The Destruction of Osaka

Godzilla made his way into Osaka Bay, searching for what had called him. He begin to make his way throught the city, which had been evacuated just a few minutes ago. Godzilla walked through the city, making use of the wider streets rather than plowing through buildings. The great beast was cautious, the last time he obeyed this strange call he was attacked from all sides. Some buildings crumbled as his tail hit them but his destructive atomic ray was not being used. Then he saw it, the Atomic Dragon was heading strait for him.

A great anger rushed through Godzilla. Was this what had called him, was this the source of the call? The Atomic Dragon opened its front to reveal a crystaline structure. The Atomic Dragon was preparing its Mega Buster. The weapon glowed and then a rainbow like beam errupted from it and hit Godzilla's chest. Godzilla didn't flinch. Instead, he returned fire. The Atomic Dragon shook for a moment and then recovered. It fired over and over again, as did Godzilla. Godzilla didn't faulter, but the Atomic Dragon crashed into a building. Godzilla towered over it, prepared to destroy it, but the same call was luring him away. He turned, his anger too great to contain now. The call had led him into the city, where he had been attacked. It had also lured him to Hokkaido, where he had also been attacked. Godzilla's anger peaked. He would find what had called him and destroy it, it was the cause of his suffering. He would destroy all of Osaka to find it.

Shinoda, Shiro, Yuki, and Sarah all stared at the screen that showed Godzilla's attack. Shiro sighed. "It was only a matter of time, Osaka was lucky for a time, now it will be destroyed." Suddenly Aethra appeared on the screen. It was far larger than before, now it would have a better chance of winning.

***********************************************************************

The Battle Begins

Godzilla recognized his opponent. It was much bigger than the last time they had met, but that didn't matter. Godzilla's roared out to Aethra, who again did not respond. Godzilla again voiced his challenge to his opponent. Aethra's eyes glowed red and then a pair of scarlet beams errupted from them, smashing into Godzilla. Godzilla returned fire but Aethra didn't stop. It kept coming, racing by Godzilla's head and slashing his cheek with its tail. Godzilla fell but quickly rose, the wound had healed almost immediantly. Aethra turned and fired its beams again, no effect. Godzilla fired a more powerful blast at Aethra, sending it flying backwards through two building that came crashing down on it. Godzilla roared in triumph, his cry echoing all across the city of Osaka.

Shinoda stared at the screen, "Is it over?" Sarah looked at the burning city. Godzilla...Did she make you do this? I have to stop this...Godzilla, go back to the sea... Sarah sent the message flying out across Japan from Tokyo to Osaka, much easier than Hokkaido but still difficult. Godzilla received the message, he considered it for a time, then shook it off. Godzilla's roar echoed across Osaka. He heard the call again, and it was close. The great leviathan marched toward one of the buildings, inside was Krystal. The two communitcated on a level Sarah couldn't quite reach, but for the first time she had a look into Krystal's mind. It was strange, as if faith and logic were fighting inside. She projected a calm, cool exterior but inside she was at war with herself. She hid it, from herself and from everyone else. Whatever happened on the mental plain between Krystal and Godzilla will forever remain a mystery. Godzilla roared, and unleashed a blast of atomic fire on Krystal, and then she was dead. He was at peace for the moment, the call had ceased.

Godzilla lumbered toward Osaka Bay. Suddenly, as if on cue, Aethra lunged at Godzilla. Its great claw tipped legs clasped Godzilla's chest and its fangs into his neck. Godzilla struggled as Aethra's tail blade jabbed in to Godzilla's stomach. Aethra glowed red with the energy from Godzilla. It seeped into its body through its legs, mouth, and tail. It no longer needed mana, it hungered for Godzilla's nuclear power. Godzilla struggled, trying to tear Aethra from his body, but it was no use.

"What the hell is it doing?" yelled out one of the soldiers. Yuki looked at the screen in horror, "Its absorbing his energy." Suddenly the Atomic Dragon was back online. Shiro turned to Shinoda and spoke with a challenging tone, "What will you do, Shinoda? Will you bring it back? Will you use the situation to attack Godzilla? Will you attack Aethra? Its your choice, but it may well decide the future." Shinoda's arrogance flushed away for a moment, "What would you do, Mr. Yamada?" Shiro was taken back for a moment then responded. "Years ago I would have brought it back and let the two fight each other, now though I would search my soul for an answer." Shinoda looked up at the screen. "We don't have the ability to kill Godzilla at the moment, attack Aethra and try to dislodge it from Godzilla."

The Atomic Dragon circled the two kaiju until the order came in. The Atomic Dragon fired the Mega Buster at Aethra, but the thing didn't seem to take notice. Godzilla roared in frustration and for a moment the crew of the Atomic Dragon thought he would attack them, but Godzilla couldn't summon the energy to do so. The Atomic Dragon fired over and over again at Aethra but no matter how much they fired they couldn't dislodge Aethra. Then the Atomic Dragon begin to malfuntion. Godzilla's attacks had damaged it badly. The constant use of the Mega Buster had caused it to overheat. Now the Mecha was about to explode.

Shinoda ordered the Atomic Dragon to land and the crew to escape. They did so, but then the Atomic Dragon rose into the air again. Shinoda was immediantly online with the pilot, "What're you doing!? Get down from there now!" The voice that came back to Shinoda turned out to be the soldier whom he had threatened to fire his first day as the head of the G-Unit. "I'm sorry Mr. Shinoda, I have to do this sir." Shinoda was quiet, as was everyone else in the room. Finally, he responded. "If you go through with this, you'll be fired." It was the only thing Shinoda could think of saying. The soldier laughed, "For good this time but I have to do it." Shinoda looked down, "I understand."

The Atomic Dragon exploded against Aethra. The thing felt the great heat and impact. It was forced to escape the heat now. Aethra released Godzilla. At that moment Godzilla unleashed the most powerful blast of atomic fire ever. It was so powerful that a bright blue shockwave errupted from his mouth as the beam blasted into Aethra sending it flying across the horizon. Aethra fell to ground, the heat and the impact had never been so great. Far away, in Tokyo, the G-Unit morned the loss of their hero.

***********************************************************************

Evolution

Aethra lay there as Godzilla walked slowly toward it. Then a change came over it. Its back split and then a new creature rose from within. A small, serpentine head stretched out and squeeled. How it did this was unknown to all as it had no mouth. Eight tentacles came flying out of the shell that was Aethra. It stood, fifty-five meters tall with its two great feet stepping out of its former shell. Where its stomach would be a massive nucleus pulsed with energy. Its tail finally tore free from the old shell and raised over the thing like a scorpion's. Where its arms would be its spiked tentacles waved. Aethra had evolved. It had acheived the goal of all its race: absorb mana, lay eggs, find an energy source that would cause them to evolve. All of Aethra's kind tried to acheive this, though none had on Mars. But Aethra now had a desire to evolve even further. It turned to Godzilla. The battle was far from over.

Shinoda, Shiro, Yuki, Sarah, and everyone else in the G-Unit headquarters couldn't beleive what they saw. Secretly, everyone wondered what Godzilla's chances would be. Godzilla himself seem surprised by this, but he had never backed down before. He would fight this foe just as he had done with all who had oppossed them in the past. Godzilla would fight to the bitter end against Aethra.

Godzilla roared at Aethra and charged. Aethra stood, its tentacles raised. Godzilla fired his atomic ray at Aethra. Aethra's tentacles shot out at Godzilla then turned on the beam. Aethra begin to suck in Godzilla's ray through its tentacles. The beam reached Aethra, then was pulled back just as it was a few meters from hitting the target. The beam was sucked into Aethra's tentacles and its nucleus glowed with blue light. Aethra squeeked innocently at the surprised Godzilla. Godzilla roared again and rushed at Aethra whose tentacles were poised, ready. Aethra's tail flew out and fired a bright red beam at Godzilla. Godzilla pushed, fighting against the beam, and in the end it was a draw. Godzilla rushed forward and met with Aethra's tentacles. The spike-tipped appendages stabbed into Godzilla's flesh and begin to suck his D.N.A. from his cells. A blue/green liquid filled Aethra's body. It was still evolving.

The Fusion

Godzilla's nuclear pulse freed the great behemoth. Aethra's body was changing. Everyone of its transperant scales was now filled with a blue/green light. It now towered over Godzilla at seventy meters tall. A toothy mouth tore free from its flesh and its head became black and cobra like with a small hood like structure coming from the sides off its neck. Aethra sprouted a pair of arms like Godzilla's from its chest and a set of spines begin to rise and took the shape of Godzilla's. Aethra had evolved even further, but it wasn't finished.

Godzilla charged. Aethra's new mouth opened and fired its own brand of atomic fire at Godzilla. Godzilla fell, astonished. Godzilla tried to rise to his feet, but was attacked by Aethra's tentacles. They didn't stab Godzilla, instead they mearly pounded his body with great force. Godzilla made it to his feet anyway and charged. His charge was met with Aethra's tail beam and again he fell. Godzilla rose to his feet one last time and slammed into Aethra. Aethra staggered, then pushed back. Its mouth opened, glowed with a blue light as its nucleus crackled with energy. It fired. Godzilla was thrown back into a building and lay their for a moment, long enough for Aethra. Two tentacles shot forward and impailed Godzilla's hands to the remains of the building. Godzilla tried to roar but another two rapped around his neck and begin to constrict it. The other two waved behind Aethra like a nest of snakes. Its tail rose up, prepared to fire. What happened next no one could have ever imagined in their wildest dreams and nightmares. Aethra was going to become the greatest thing on the planet, it was determined to do so. It would be greater than its foe.

The nucleus in Aethra's stomach came out, attached to Aethra by tentacles. Another group of tentacles came out from the back of the nucleus and stabbed into Godzilla's stomach. Godzilla tried to howl in pain, but he couldn't. He tried to break free and rip this demon to peices, but he couldn't. Miles away, in Tokyo, Sarah became afraid for him. "What's it doing now?", asked Shiro quietly. Sarah shuddered. "Becoming one with Godzilla." No one liked the sound of that. In Osaka, Godzilla felt himself withering away slowly. Aethra was growing stronger, they were going to fuse in a moment. Godzilla laid there, unable to respond as a bright white light came from the nucleus growing brighter and brighter. Sarah cried, then she sent her thoughts flying across Japan with a great force such as she had never known, "Godzilla don't let him win!" She had yelled it out loud. Godzilla heard it, it brought him back to concienceness. He gathered his energy, he fired, the bright white light errupted. The blast was blinding. The sound with deafining. But what happened?

The End

The smoke cleared. Godzilla layed in the rubble, weak but alive. Aethra was struggling with the new sensation of pain. Its tentacles and been torn off by the blast. Its nucleus was entirely destroyed, its insides hanging from the huge hole where its nucleus had once been. It hadn't fused. Its transparent skin had become dark green but that was all. It hated Godzilla. It hated pain. It could hate now. It roared as Godzilla rose to his feet, growing stronger. All Aethra had to defend it now was its tail, but its hate for Godzilla was so great that it was still going to kill him no matter what.

Godzilla charged, still not at full strength but ready still. Aethra's tail raised and fired its beam, but it was weak. Godzilla pushed on and crashed into Aethra who staggered backward. Aethra's tail swung out and stabbed into Godzilla but a blast of atomic fire destroyed it. Godzilla pulled what was left of the stinger out of his chest and threw it to the ground. Godzilla opened his mouth, charged up a great blast, and sent it into Aethra via the hole the nucleus had left. Aethra glowed for a moment. What it felt then can't be described. Suddenly Aethra's head vanished as a beam of blue/white light rushed out of its torso into the sky. Aethra exploded. The mana it had consumed went back into the planet. Godzilla absorbed the nuclear energy. He felt full now, as if he had just fed. Godzilla roared in triumph and marched into Osaka Bay.

Conclusion

Everyone in the G-Unit headquarters cheered Godzilla's victory. All but Shinoda who secretly wondered if it was for the best. Shiro turned to Sarah. "Now Sarah, I have a surprise for you. I figure I should better give it to you now." Sarah smiled and tried to read Shiro's mind. However, he had learned how to keep his surprises a surprise around her. He smiled at her, "Your not going to live at the psychic school anymore. You'll still attend but you'll be living with me." Sarah nearly knocked him over as she rushed to hug him. It seemed things had worked out for the best. Even Shinoda thought so.

Then a thought came to Sarah's mind. "Shiro, Krystal said that communist were trying to make everyone equal and to do that a strong government would be needed. Is that true Shiro?" Shiro thought about this for a moment, then carefully gave a response. "It's a good idea, but you can't make everyone equal and trying to make good out of evil only makes more evil. The leaders of communist nations quickly become corrupt and strive only to keep their power. Tyrants never last long. I can't give you a reason why but all Tyrants fall and then are remembered in history forever as monsters, worse than Godzilla."

Godzilla went into the depths. He would sleep in the depths of the Japanese Trench. He would sleep untill he needed to feed. Sleep untill he needed to protect Japan. Sleep untill...he stopped. He listened. There was no call. He slept. He would sleep untill his rage was awakened again.
