Heath's Biography and Filmotography

On the 4th April 1979, in Subiaco Hospital, in Perth, Western Australia, a baby was born. In Australia and the U.S.A. he is best known for his character Conor in the TV show Roar, and the movies Two Hands (Jimmy) and 10 Things I Hate About You (Patrick). He started out in the Perth TV show, Sweat. He then moved to Sydney where he had minor roles in several TV shows, and in two movies. I am talking about Heathcliff Andrew Ledger, or better known as Heath Ledger. We can’t just start anywhere, so let’s start at the beginning. As far as education goes Heath went to private school Boys Guilford Grammar, where he exeled in drama winning various awards. While at school Heath also played Cricket and Field Hockey. When he was asked to choose between sport and drama, he chose drama, and aren’t we all glad he did. In 1996 Heath landed the role of Snowy Bowles a gay cyclist on the Perth TV show Sweat. After Sweat finished, 17 year old Heath left Perth and headed for Sydney and left behind his parents, who to this day still live over in WA mind you he did only leave three years ago (1996). While in Sydney, Heath landed small roles in the TV shows Home and Away, Ship to Shore, and Bush Patrol, and in the movies Paws and Blackrock. Around this time Heath first gained international attention. Roar was an action-adventure TV series that was filmed in Queensland and had actors flown in from the U.S. Heath played Celtic leader Conor and was the star of the show. Roar wasn’t a huge success, but the massive ad campaign in the U.S. was what got Heath noticed. After the show was cancelled Heath moved to Hollywood. He moved to LA because he was sick of getting offered pretty boy roles in Australia. Once Heath had settled in over in LA he wasted no time scoring his first major movie role as Jimmy in the Australian film Two Hands. His Co-stars included Bryan Brown and Rose Byrne. Two Hands was set and filmed in Sydney in 1998. For the film Heath had to dye his normally blonde hair brown. He kept this hair colour for his next movie. Next up for Heath was the role of Patrick Verona in the teen movie 10 Things I Hate About You. 10 Things was a modern day version of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. He starred along side with some of America’s top young actors. These include Julia Stiles, Larissa Oleynik, Joseph Gordon-Lewitt, Andrew Keen and David Krumholtz. In 10 Things Heath displayed his amazing singing ability whist serenading Julia Stiles with ‘Can’t Take My Eye’s Off Of You’. Heath has just finished filming The Patriot where he plays Mel Gibson’s son Gabriel Martin. The movie is currently screening in cinemas around the world.
