Somebody once wrote: "Hell is the impossibility of reason." That's
what this place feels like. Hell.
It is obvious, from all the movies, books, articles, etc., that Vietnam was hell. It took Chris Taylor one week to realize that he made a mistake, and he was in hell. At the time he said this, he was still an outcast of the platoon, almost like most Americans. He sees the men doing things that just don’t make sense, but over time, he realizes that they are the only things that make sense. He realizes that it was the war made no sense.
