Chance Turbo Seating

UPDATE 1/14/01 I recieved this info from David Althoff about a month ago, but becuase of my laziness, I havent put it up yet. But, here you go.

From *Ferris Wheels: An Illustrated History* by Norman Anderson, copr. 1992, Bowling Green State University Popular Press p. 231: Turbo The Turbo was designed in-house by Chance Manufacturing and has some of the same characteristics as the Double Whirl. A company brochure describes the ride as follows:
The Turbo has 20 seats, each accommodating 3 adult passengers. Two seats can be loaded simultaneously, with a capacity of 720 per hour. The turret turns at 8 revolutions per minute while the wheels turn at 10 rpm. The ride is mounted on a 40-foot trailer for portable use.
Between 1970 and 1976, twenty-three Turbo's were built. But just as in the case of its ancestors, the Double Whirl, the Turbo never really caught on with those seeking a thrill on the midway. Chance introduced an open-seat version of the Turbo, called the Radar. Only time will tell how popular this addition to the family of Ferris wheel-like rides will become. End of quoted material. I'm afraid that's all the book has to say about that one. --Dave Althoff, Jr.

Turbo Seating

From this picture, it looks rather cramped. Though, I would love to ride it. It is the most beautiful ride I have ever seen in my life. Has so much color. I havent ever seen it work but, from what I have heard, it moved through the sky with grace unmatched by any other ride. Oh yeah, dont forget to go to the best Amusement Ride site on the net Dave Burton's Amusement Ride Extravaganza

I cant thank Dave enough for what he has done. This is a great site. It also has information about the Radar. A very similar ride to the Turbo made, also by Chance. Go to his site, it is DEFINATLY worth it! Thank you.
