Wendy says it all when she sings 'Your mother and Mine' in the classic Disney flick Peter Pan. Disney mothers have held integral roles in many Disney flicks - from Dumbo's caring and protective mother Mrs Jumbo, to Wendy, Michael and John's understanding and loving mother Mrs Darling, right up to Tarzan's incredible and strong ape mother Kala, with lots in between. This page is a tribute to these characters.
Mrs Jumbo
For protecting her young son when he was tormented by the visitors to the circus, Mrs Jumbo was placed away in a cage: "Caution! Mad Elephant!" The song "Baby Mine" remains a Disney classic, and everyone was thrilled at the reunion of mother and son at the film's end.
Bambi's Mother
The death of Bambi's mother was one of the saddest Disney occurences in history, because everyone gained a soft spot for the character after watching her guide her son in his early life.
Mrs Darling
As warm and loving as her husband was irrational, Mrs Darling always indulged in her children's "fantasies" and provided them with love and care.
Perdita
It's every mother's nightmare - your children getting kidnapped by an evil woman trying to turn them into fur coats. Wait, that's not every mother's nightmare. Maybe every mother's nightmare is having 99 children. I don't know. But Perdita handles the situation with flair.
Duchess
Duchess, of "The AristoCats", took her three children, er, cats on an adventure through Paris and beyond, displaying a lot of fun and a lot of strength as she protected them in this time.
Sarabi
Though an underused character in the basically patriachal "Lion King", Sarabi displayed tremendous strength as she stood up to her evil brother-in-law Scar, fought for the Pride Lands, and ensured the safety and care of her son, Simba.
Nala
(Okay, so they don't look too happy here. But good pictures are hard to find.)
Nala took over as the mother-figure in "The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride", always remaining cool and level-headed whilst Simba continually, uhhh, lost it over Kiara's safety.
Mulan's mother and grandmother
Though Fa Mulan's mother was far more submissive than her daughter, she had a quiet kind of strength and was always looking out for Mulan. Meanwhile, Mulan's grandmother was a whole lot of fun as well as a source of great wisdom.
Kala
My personal favourite (if you couldn't guess from the pictures here), Tarzan's mother displayed incredible strength from the second the film started.
Though faced with the death of her natural son, Kala rescued Tarzan from Sabor - putting her own life at risk by doing so - and raised him in the most loving way, despite the views shared by Kerchak and the rest of the apes about Tarzan's not belonging.
Why, she even convinced Tarzan he was completely at home in the world of the apes - not such an easy task when faced with a confused five-year-old. I mean, I imagine it's not. I do have a young nephew, but I've never had to convince him about whether or not he's an ape. She also became a motherly figure to Jane by the movie's end.
Summary: KALA ROCKS! And so do the rest of the Disney mothers.
