STORY

Five teens go out to visit their grandpa's grave. On the way they pick up a deranged hitch-hiker, who looks pretty freaky. He tells how he slaughtered cows the "old fashioned way, the better way." (Chopped their heads off with an axe) So after this guy, cuts his hand with a knife, he cuts one of the teens, and sets his picture on fire. They kick out the hitch-hiker out, but will soon run in to him later. Of course, the teens get lost, and work their way to an old house. From there they one, by one work themselves to another house, where agroup of ex-slaughter house employees live, including the deranged hitch-hiker. This of course, is a group of canibals. So as they enter home, the butcher, Leatherface, who wears a mask made of human flesh, cuts them up with a chainsaw. After a while, it gets dark, and Leatherface comes after the remaining two. While he kills Franklin, who sadly is in a wheelchair, Frank's sister Sally runs away and ends up at a gas station. The owner is also a canibal, the cook of the family. He takes her to their house and they plan on eating her. Well our heroine escapes, but good old Leatherface chases her. She gets away, and the movie ends with a quite bizarre ending...

OPINION

When I rented this one, I thought it was going to be a gore-fest, but surprisingly it had very little blood and guts. I thought that the low-budget added the eerie effect, and I also thought that Hooper did a great job on this one. I think Hooper made a good choice to frighten the audience not by gore, but by pure fear, and the fact that canibals really do exist. This ( along with HALLOWEEN) started the slasher movie, and thats something pretty big. So if you're a horror fan, I definitely recommend this one.
