Malapropism: This is when large words are purposely confused with other words to make the speech humourous. Old Gobbo and Lancelot Gobbo both use this effect when they speak. This is one of the things that makes The Merchant of Venice a comedy.
Juxtaposition: This is when a writer, such as Shakespeare, uses different places to symbolize contrasting things. In this case, the juxtapostion is between Venice and Belmont. Venice symbolizes men, buissness, money, and hate(Shylock). Whereas Belmont symbolizes women, poetry, love, and happiness.
Ursurer: The profession of moneylending in Elizibethen England that was confined only to Jewish people. This created great resentment because many Jews becames rich.
