Chapter Thrity-Two

Max breathed on the two candles on his birthday cake.

"Yay!" everyone said, and clapped their hands.

"I want that piece!" Max said.

"I'll take that piece!" Millie pointed to the cake.

"All right, you two. I need to cut the cake first." Rose placed the napkins on the table, and she started to cut the cake. "All right, Max, here's yours, and Millie, here is yours." Rose handed the two pieces to each of the children. "Camilla, Johnny, Anna, Scott, Jack, would you like a piece?"

"Yes, please," the men said in unison.

"I'll take one," Anna said.

"I shouldn't. I really don't feel well." Camilla shook her head. It was only yesterday when Camilla discovered that she was pregnant.

Rose cut the pieces of cake, and everyone started to eat some. "Well, Max, are you ready to open your presents?"

"Yeah!"

Rose giggled. "All right. Well, I'll get them."

Rose and Jack came back with presents.

"Yay! Presidents!"

Everyone laughed.

"They're called presents, Max," Millie said.

"Millie, don't you remember when you talked like that?" Johnny asked.

Millie shook her head. "No."

"I do. You were about this tall." Jack leveled his hand, showing Millie the height.

"Jack, don't be silly. I was never that small."

"You were smaller than that once. Almost as small as Audrey."

"I was?" Millie asked, shocked.

"Yep," Camilla said.

"A sketch book!" Max held up a small sketching pad.

"What do you say to Anna, Scott, and Maddy?"

"Thank you!"

"You're welcome," Scott and Anna said.

Max opened another present, and found a toy car.

"That's from us," Ruth said.

"Thank you, Grandma and Grandpa!"

"You're welcome," Jonathan said.

Max opened up his other presents, and then went over on the floor and played with them with Millie. Jonathan and Ruth decided to go home, and Max gave them their hugs and kisses, thanking them both again for the presents. Everyone was in the family room as Millie and Max played on the floor.

"Rose, would you mind watching Millie tomorrow?"

"No. That will be fine."

"All right. I need to go for a doctor's appointment, and I shouldn't be gone for long."

"That will be fine. I really don't have anything big planned out for the week."

"Well, we should be heading home." Scott stood up and so did Anna.

"Yeah, we should too." Camilla stood up also, and put her hands on her back.

"Well, then, I'll see you tomorrow, Millie." "Okay."

"Bye."

"Bye."

"Bye, Rose."

"Good-bye, Anna."
