Chapter Seven

It had been a day since Jack and Rose said their farewells to Anna and Scott. It ended up that Rose won the poker match, and for their winning, they were given the proper meals at the expense of the Cooks. Today, Jack and Rose decided to go home hunting. They started three blocks away from the ocean, and started to walk down the cement streets that were lined with beautiful trees. The two then stopped at the fourth house down from the beginning of the street, and examined it. Jack and Rose opened the white picket gate, and walked down the brick pathway. Rose followed Jack up the four stairs that led to the veranda.

"Hello?" Jack asked, knocking on the door.

"I think it's abandoned," Rose said, looking through the dusty windows.

Jack started to turn the knob, and the door creaked open. "It's not locked." Jack then entered the house, and Rose followed.

"This is weird. It seems as if the couple just packed their bags and left," Rose said as she walked around the furniture covered in white sheets.

"Well, at least we don't have to worry about furniture." Jack chuckled.

Rose started to ascend the stairs, which were covered with dust. "I'm going to look around upstairs."

"All right. I'm gonna stay down here and look."

Rose stopped at the last step, and saw four doors. Rose decided to start from the right and work her way across. Behind the first white door was a bathroom. The next one was a bedroom with a queen-sized bed. The next one held a rocking chair, a cradle, and a crib. "This must be a baby's room," Rose whispered as she touched the lace curtains. The next one seemed to be a guestroom because of its interior, and the last one seemed to be a regular room.

"Anything interesting?" Jack asked, sneaking up on Rose.

"Well, up here there is a bathroom, a guestroom, a baby room, and two bedrooms. What's downstairs?"

"A living room, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a den." Jack and Rose walked down the stairs. "I like this house. Of course there will be a need of cleaning, but other than that, this would make a wonderful home."

Rose put her arms around Jack. "I like it, too."

"So, have we found our home?"

"I guess." The two smiled, and kissed.

"What's your name?" a child's voice came from the open door.

"Well, I'm Rose, and this is Jack. What's yours?"

"Millie," the blonde little girl said.

"Millie? Millie?" a woman's voice called.

"I'm over here, Mama."

"Millie, what have I told you about playing in here?" The woman the noticed the couple, and the woman smiled. "Oh, hello."

"Hello," Jack and Rose said in unison.

"I'm Camilla Taylor, and this is my daughter, Millie."

"Hello."

"Are you two planning on buying this house?"

"We were thinking about it."

"Oh, that's wonderful. No one has lived here since that other family moved to Boston. I believe that was about six months ago. It was weird, they didn't even bring their furniture, their close belongings, and clothes."

"Yes, that is odd."

"Have you looked at any other houses?"

"No, not yet, but we are certain that this would be a great house to start a future in."

"Well, this neighborhood so far hasn't given Johnny and I any problems. Why, the only thing you hear at night is the ocean."

"That seems peaceful."

"Oh, it is. It's a very great place to have picnics."

"Lucy likes the ocean, too," Millie said as her bright eyes twinkled.

"Lucy is our dog, and you don't have to worry about her. She never barks unless someone she finds unbecoming comes around here."

"Lucy!" Millie yelled. A black retriever then came running over to the little girl. "Good girl." Millie petted the sweet dog.

"Well, we better go. We'll talk to you later."

"All right. We'll see you later." Jack and Rose then started to head towards the bank to buy their new home.
