Using clothes pins, duct tape, or rubber bands, you can support a variety of homemade filter items.
Here are a few things you could use:
-plastic wrap (or colored shrink wrap, to give your shot different "tints.")
-a glass
-a very loosely woven basket
-light colored plastic (see plastic wrap)
-a glass bowl
-a fairly clear plastic cup
-aluminum foil with a pattern of holes punched out
-cardboard with a design cut out
-a colander
-sunglasses (possibly an original POV shot?)
-a kaleidoscope (especially if the person is crazy or drugged.)
-a piece of stained or frosted glass (frosted glass can make it hazy and give your shot a dream-like feel.)
-a piece of window screen
-a fish net
-a bottle
-a sheer stocking (also can make it hazy and give your shot a dreamy feel.)
You can use these filter effects to add unique, mystical, romantic, intriguing, psychedelic and artisic flair to your films. As you try different items, keep an open mind. Write down the ones that you like so you can use them when you need them, and email them to me! Happy filtering.
