SECRET AGENT 2: BRING ME BACK TO LIFE
Chapter Five
When Jack had finished working yesterday,
Chloe called and told him not to worry, that she was fine and would return to
work the next day. He was relieved that she was okay, but he wondered what had
kept her from work. Even though he wasn't with her, he still cared very deeply
for her. He loved her with all his heart, and his daughter even moreso.
The following day, he went to
work and kept a special eye on Chloe. When she came in, he was already in her
office. "Jack, what are you doing here?"
"Came to apologize to you
about my behavior. I'm sorry," he said.
"It’s okay. I know what you
needed, and so did I. But we have to move on, Jack. I've met someone." She
went to her desk.
"Who is he?" Jack
asked.
"His name is Caledon
Hockley. He's new in town," she said, proud after the night she had spent
with him.
"You’re seeing Rose's
ex?" He looked surprised.
"Rose's ex? You mean he was
your wife's boyfriend?" She looked at him, puzzled.
"Yeah. Look, I am gonna find
out what's going on. I think he wants Rose back. That is why he is with you--to
make me jealous enough to want you so Rose can leave me, but honey, you know
better. I love you without a doubt." He kissed her cheek and went out the
door. He peered into Rose's office. "Sweetie, who exactly is Caledon
Hockley, and why did he sleep with Chloe?"
"I told you about him
already. I think he wants me back." She looked up at him.
"Do you want him,
Rose?" he asked her.
"No, honey. Of course
not." She went to him and hugged him.
"He wants Chloe, and I am
not gonna let him have her. She and you are my life," he told her, and
kissed her on the cheek.
"Sweetie, you can't have
Chloe. You are married to me," she reminded him.
"I know that. I didn't mean
physically. I meant I need to protect her." He wandered off to his
brother's office.

Inside, Kevin was on a call. He
looked up as his brother appeared in his office. Jack quietly took a seat. He
looked around his brother's office. Then he saw a picture of his sister-in-law.
He remembered when his brother had met her. He always came to Jack for advice, but
ever since he had gotten married, he didn't come to him and ask him anything.
"So, what can I do for you,
Jack?" Kevin asked.
"Well, it’s Rose and Chloe.
Rose's ex is back and wants her back, while Chloe is sleeping around with
Rose's ex. I don't know what to do, bro." Jack laid his head down on his
brother's desk.
"Jack, do you still love
Chloe?" Kevin asked.
"Yeah. I think I always
will." He grinned.
"It's hard, especially when
she is the mother of your daughter. I think you should give Rose a chance.
Maybe she wants her ex back, but can't ‘cause she's stuck with you," Kevin
told him pointblank.
"Maybe you’re right."
He knew what he had to do. Let Rose go.
