BARRIERS OF A FIRST LOVE
Chapter Ten
September 4, 2003
Rose irritably answered her cell phone.
"Hello?"
"We need to talk."
"Cal, I’m gonna be late for
school."
"Who cares? Meet me at Cafeterion."
"Cal, no. It’s the third day of school
and I’ve already missed one of those days. Do you know what this will do to my
track record?"
"Quite being such a goody-two-shoes. If
you’re here in the next half hour, I’ll even call in and tell the office you’re
sick. Deal?"
"Do I have a choice about this?"
"I’m afraid not."
She quickly hung up as the anger surged up.

He finally arrived at the casual restaurant
and plopped down in the seat across from her. "I was hoping you’d come to
my dorm last night."
"I was tired."
"I understand. Your little after-dinner
party with Dawson must have really worn you out."
"Are you spying on me now?"
He leaned down so that no one else in the
restaurant might hear and snarled, "Listen, you little bitch, you are
never to act like that again. Do you have any idea what would happen to my
reputation if word got out you were out with gutter trash all night? You are my
girlfriend and I expect you to act like it. Is this in any way unclear?"
Rose looked at him with hatred. But also fear.
One day she would prevail over him, but not now. She could wait.
After seeing the slight shake of her head,
Cal got up and walked off.
