BARRIERS OF A FIRST LOVE
Chapter Fifteen
Jack suddenly sat up. "I hear someone
coming."
Rose’s eyes snapped open. "You sure you
aren’t just paranoid?"
"I’m positive. C’mon, Rose. Spencer’s
coming. We have to get out of here."
*****
Spencer approached the car parked in Rose’s
garage. He smiled as he noticed how steamed up the windows were.
With a sudden leap, he whisked the back door
open to reveal...nothing. "What the--"
Just then, he heard the car to the very right
being started up.
*****
Rose pushed the automatic garage door opener
in her mother’s car and backed onto the driveway.
"Whoa. The look on Spencer’s face right
now is priceless," Jack, sitting next to her, said.
Spencer began to run towards them. Just
before turning the car around and driving off, Rose rolled the window down and
gave him the finger before smiling sweetly and waving good-bye.
*****
The car ripped through the streets of LA just
like in all those law and cop shows Rose had always seen on TV. Spencer was
just behind them in his own car, and Rose prayed that a police car would pull
him over soon.
"I’m sorry," she softly said to
Jack.
"For what?"
"Lots of things. Getting you into this,
being such a pain, letting Spencer catch up to us--Jack, the list just goes on
and on."
"Well, then, you should also be sorry
for being the single most extraordinary girl I have ever met and making me a
better person. Oh, and don’t forget your love and support that I couldn’t ever
live without."
"Yeah?" Though she knew she
shouldn’t, Rose turned away from the road to gaze at Jack.
"Yeah." He leaned in, intending to
kiss her, but he suddenly turned his head towards the road and yelled,
"Watch out!"
